Chapter 861 Promoting Managers

Chapter 861 Promotion to Manager (Happy New Year! First Update!)

As we all know, New York was the place where the Avengers first appeared in action and in the public eye.

Many New Yorkers are proud that the city was home to superheroes like the Avengers, resulting in a large following of Avengers fans. For example, teenagers might admire Natasha Romanoff, while mature women might admire Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, or Thor. Coupled with America's culture of individualism and unbridled freedom associated with superheroes, some people might even mimic comic book superheroes by wearing masks and taking to the streets to fight crime.

And he was carrying a gun.

Since taking office, Chief Stacy has arrested several masked idiots and sent them to the district attorney for prosecution on the grounds of not having concealed carry permits, teaching them a lesson. Recently, a masked vigilante in Hell's Kitchen has been causing trouble, and he wants to catch that guy and give him a felony sentence. He's worried that more people like that will appear in the city, and he's even more worried that the two cases that happened today were committed by masked freaks, which means the future of New York City will be quite turbulent. He's not unaware that vigilantes sometimes supplement public order, especially when the police are unable to act due to illegal evidence gathering, orders from superiors, officers on leave, police budget cuts to eliminate racial discrimination, and all sorts of other miscellaneous reasons. In such cases, masked vigilantes serve as a deterrent to criminals. These people embody the oldest and most sincere vision of mankind, inscribed on the basalt columns of the Code of Hammurabi.

A tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye.

This is why the public so readily welcomes chivalrous superheroes when they see villains punished. However, Director Stacy scoffs at the term "superhero," believing their actions are completely uncontrollable. Some see superheroes as some kind of otherworldly beings, but she knows perfectly well that superheroes are still human, and no matter how powerful they are, their hearts are no different from ours. This is not a good thing; it means that superheroes will one day become a major problem for society. Anyone who possesses abilities beyond their limits but lacks the corresponding morality will ultimately meet the same fate—this is Director Stacy's pessimism.

He didn't tell anyone his opinion.

But if the real culprits behind these two cases knew his true thoughts, they might nod in agreement.

"The search team followed the bloodstains down the sewers, but couldn't find the crime scene. All the clues led to a very old and unused sewer. There were no eyewitnesses, not even any sewer alligators, but there were plenty of dead snakes." Six hours later, Detective Carter finally called the chief's office to report. She glanced at her partner, then quietly walked away—Detective Francesco vomited again, his curiosity leading him to follow the search team into the sewers.

"Although the search team has taken a lot of photos, I'm sure you don't want to see them there because the situation there is much worse."

"How much worse can it get today? Send the photos to my email, I need to see them." Chief Stacy sighed and hung up the phone. Ten minutes later, the clerical staff member who had been called in to work overtime and compile case files outside the chief's office suddenly heard a horrifying sound of vomiting coming from inside. He rushed in. "Don't tell anyone," the chief said, rinsing his mouth, threatening the staff member, "at least for the sake of the bonus."

"I thought you were sick. I'm glad you're alright." The young officer glanced at the blurry image on the computer screen and said with a smile, "It's just a murder scene. You're not some greenhorn who's just started out in this line of work."

"I can let you see the photos from the scene, as long as you keep it a secret." After the young officer swore to God that he would absolutely adhere to professional ethics, the chief finally beckoned him to stand in front of the screen and see the picture clearly. He said slowly, "If you vomited, you'll be responsible for taking out the trash." A few minutes later, the young officer, pale-faced, walked out of the office carrying a trash can, refusing to say anything no matter how his colleagues questioned him afterward. Knowing that the investigation team had returned, the entire office was filled with a sour smell afterward.

The culprit behind all this was not far from the police station, just a few blocks away in a hospital.

He came straight here after getting up and having breakfast, accompanied only by an android dressed in a black women's suit. However, the android stood guard outside the door and did not enter the room. The Sorority had scouted the building opposite the window of this reception room the night before to ensure that no sniper could fire at him from there.

Christina Palmer awkwardly urged Salomon to wait, explaining that Stephen Strange had an "urgent surgery" to perform and couldn't leave. However, the sorcerer sitting on the living room sofa wasn't in a hurry as she'd expected. Instead, she leisurely sipped the hot black tea she'd bought, which Christina Palmer felt was more like black tea-flavored syrup than real tea, its sweet, honeyed aroma filling the room. "Did you know that this hospital is going to be acquired recently? Apparently, the acquisition plan has already been finalized."

"I'm just a nurse, not a manager."

“Ms. Christina Palmer, you will be the manager from now on.” Salomon tossed the fashion magazine onto the small glass table. He looked up at the anxious nurse. “I’ve decided to appoint you as the head of neurosurgery after the acquisition. I believe in your abilities and… well, your kindness.” Seeing the nurse’s surprised expression, Salomon continued unhurriedly, “Don’t worry, I won’t be making too many changes to the management team, nor will I fire Stephen Strange; after all, he’s the best neurosurgeon in all of New York. But I want you to manage him, to make sure he’s not so incompetent anymore, okay?”

"You're planning to acquire this hospital?" Christina Palmer felt like she was still on cloud nine, unable to come down for a while. "Why? As far as I know, this hospital's profitability isn't actually..."

"It's because of Stephen Strange, he made me angry," Salomon said.

Christina Palmer wasn't entirely convinced by this reasoning.

Although she wasn't very knowledgeable about business, she had never seen anyone launch a takeover simply because they disliked someone, unless that person was a capricious billionaire like Tony Stark. Even a billionaire wouldn't necessarily be able to acquire a hospital in such a short time. This was, of course, a lie; Salomon wouldn't allow anyone other than Maya Hansen to access his physical data, but Salomon would promote her regardless of whether she believed it or not. Not only because Christina Palmer was exceptionally capable, but also because Stephen Strange, that arrogant guy, was extremely annoyed by her; he had to make her a manager.

"Don't tell him. Keep it a little secret between us. I trust you can do it." The sorcerer winked. Few could resist his charm, especially when he did it intentionally, making him as beautiful as a marble deity from ancient Greece. However, Christina Palmer didn't react much; she simply nodded, resisting Salomon's casual persuasion.

"I'll also set up a bonus so you can continue your studies at medical school. I believe you can become an excellent doctor, even better than Strange. So, please be strict with your management style; I want all doctors to work diligently."
