Chapter 875 The Only Faith
Chapter 875 The Only Faith (First Update)
"My lord! I thought dinner would be delayed!" Dinah asked with delight. "Will we eat dinner on time?" Everyone has been very busy lately, even Dinah, the android in charge of daily life, is quite busy. She not only has to take care of the two witches and Salomon's daily needs, but also needs to find time to cross the Atlantic to train servants for the Oxfordshire manor and seek wisdom from the old butler of Croft Manor. The servants here refer to those in British aristocratic manors before World War I—nowadays, most similar manors use a hiring system, especially common in properties purchased with new money, where university students often seek summer jobs. However, because the Oxfordshire manor has too many secrets, and because Dinah thinks summer jobs are unprofessional, all the hired servants are on lifetime contracts.
Even so, people still applied, which only made Salomon realize how terrible the job market was in the UK.
However, considering that this is a job with a price index wage, medical insurance fund, generous pension insurance, and various post-retirement benefits, it's not surprising that so many people apply. Therefore, Diana thinks it's reasonable to require the servants to undergo military training. Since Salomon paid so much money, requiring the servants to at least know how to use a pistol isn't a big problem.
"Yeah, that's what I thought at first too, until I said something stupid." Salomon scratched his messy hair.
He was shirtless, his back covered in scratches and bite marks, a testament to the intensity of the previous battle. He had long ago left the affairs of the manor to Dinah, letting her handle them herself. Without using the power of the Immortal City, Dinah could manage just as well using only Salomon's personal assets and the companies under his name. Homunculi possess an exceptionally high level of intelligence, a gift bestowed upon them by Salomon when he created them.
"Dina, why are women so hard to understand, especially married women?"
This question was too difficult for Diana, and she stammered, unable to speak.
"Ha, you idiot!" Joan of Arc burst into laughter, to which Salomon merely rolled his eyes. She had already heard Salomon's foolish words from Bayonetta; only the witch in the entire family could mock Salomon like that. "I don't want to go hungry over something like this, but she only listens to you!" The white-haired witch glanced at the homunculus maid. "Next time, either you come out yourself, or I'll barge in and interrupt you. The choice is yours!"
Diana lowered her head and continued tending to the sauce in the pot.
She planned to prepare a late-night snack and breakfast, and thought dinner would probably have to be postponed again.
Because her master is often too busy to eat after returning home due to the witch, she thought she could prepare a breakfast and a work meal to take to the Immortal City before Salomon departs. In addition, she was responsible for recording any work Salomon missed during this time, such as the fact that a female armor made of very special materials, commissioned by him from a fallen angel craftsman, was nearing completion. When Rodan called, it was Dinah who answered. She used a portion of Salomon's inventory to pay the craftsman's wages and also booked a delivery service.
A few minutes later, a huge cargo box, accompanied by a massive cloud of dust, crashed out of the portal and landed squarely in the witch's apartment living room. Its weight caused a deafening thud, sending the neatly arranged furniture and various trinkets flying. A large dent appeared in the exquisite teak floor. Dinah was furious. For the first time, she put down her cleaning tools and grabbed the giant chainsaw sword Bayonetta had given her. However, Salomon quickly stopped her, summoning his spirit servants to help with the cleaning, thus preventing Dinah from bursting into tears.
"What is this?" Tita looked up at the black cast-iron container. She was nearly 195 centimeters tall, clad in ceremonial armor, but the container was even taller; only a Royal Guard of about three meters could peek out from behind it. The massive container bore the Martian gear emblem and the golden eagle insignia of the Immortal City, indicating that the armor had been modified by the chief craftsman of the Martian foundry and sealed by Salomon himself. Besides the parchment covered in tiny writing affixed to the cast iron surface, a deep red power switch gleamed in the upper left corner of the container's hatch.
"This is what my lord entrusted to you, Commander," Constantine said softly, handing her a parchment file sealed with lead. According to orders from the Royal Guard, this container would be hidden deep within the dark crypt of the Sisterhood of Immortals' Abbey. Currently, at least hundreds of projects are openly operating simultaneously in Immortal City, while these projects are secretly propelling Salomon's true intentions towards realization.
"I will," Tita waved, leading the transport vehicles following the Royal Guard slowly into the depths of the monastery. The Royal Guard did not continue forward, but turned and left after watching the vehicles disappear into the shadow of the towering Gothic buildings. Tita and the transport vehicles stopped at the entrance to the burial chamber—the burial chamber was built after the Battle of Finnbowent. The monastery, which normally prohibited outsiders from entering, was forced to allow the construction team to work there, but the team's activities were strictly restricted. Once the burial chamber for the martyrs of the Battle of Finnbowent was completed, Tita couldn't wait to bury them inside and then completely seal it, leaving only a small team to guard it in shifts. The fifteen-meter-high entrance to the burial chamber was decorated with exquisite reliefs praising the sacrifices and dedication of the Battle of Finnbowent, but the interior of the portico was pitch black, with only the faint sound of the construction team chiseling rock coming from deep within. Tita didn't know what the item Salomon had given her was for, but she did as ordered and kept it secret according to procedure, only sharing this vague information with a few squad commanders.
Tita directed the transport vehicle into the tomb entrance, but forbade the lights to be turned on. After winding their way for hundreds of steps, the driver finally saw sparse candlelight in the darkness. The candlelight then grew denser, eventually forming a river of light on both sides of the passage, gradually brightening the tomb passage that resembled a monster's esophagus. The driver saw exquisite murals painted on the candle-illuminated walls, depicting religious saints weeping and praising courageous sacrifice and faith.
"What do you think that is?" A kerosene lamp, accompanied by a strong, pungent aroma, wafted from the dark passageway, unlit by candlelight. Aura, clad in a commander's ceremonial power armor, asked expressionlessly. She carried no heavy weapons, but rather a longsword at her waist and a pistol—standard combat squad attire.
"I don't know, Aura. I have a guess, pretty close." Tita shook her head, watching the workers and transport vehicles carefully move the multi-ton containers. "It's either Ragnarok or the Battle of Attilan, but I really don't know what this thing is for. But I think when that time comes, our Lord will let us know His wisdom, so we don't need to rush."
"Are the transport personnel brainwashed afterward?" Ola said. "I noticed some of them had Wakanda symbols."
“Yes, they can’t remember everything they saw here. As for the Wakandans needing a deep magical investigation, those heretics who don’t understand the glory of our Lord are too strange, and their cooperation with the Sovereign isn’t that solid.” Tita paused for a moment, then decided not to tell Aura about the countermeasures against the Wakandans. “Our faith in Him cannot be spread outside the Sisterhood. This is His command, and we cannot disobey it.”
