Chapter 883 New York Spider-Man
Chapter 883 New York Spider-Man (First Update)
The woman's true identity is that of a CIA agent who defected while on a long-term mission to the UK.
She started a new life under the name Mary Morstan, while the real Mary Morstan was long buried six feet underground. Thanks to the British household registration system, this woman's disguise went unnoticed; the fact that Salomon's adoption papers didn't list an adoptive parent hadn't been discovered to this day, let alone the tampering by an agent. Of course, if someone with extremely high intelligence privileges (referring to Mycroft Holmes) were to carefully investigate, they would inevitably discover the suspicious aspects of this woman named Mary Morstan's past. Salomon's assistance was simply to delete that potentially obtainable document.
It's highly unlikely that a sorcerer would specifically seek out information on this woman. Salomon's assassins obtained a great deal of information during their infiltration of the CIA headquarters in Langley. It was while sorting through those top-secret documents to combat CIA human trafficking (actually, to recruit new soldiers and train true soldiers for the Immortal City) that Salomon learned of her true identity from a relatively insignificant list.
That's right, it's not very valuable.
Because her mission wasn't about national security, but rather about gathering intelligence and leverage over businessmen and politicians to give the tycoons on the Foreign Relations Committee leverage in subsequent business negotiations, allowing them to seize British capital and technology to alleviate their own economic difficulties. Such missions were commonplace for the CIA; a low-ranking defector was nothing special, they could just send another. This had been happening repeatedly since Margaret Thatcher laid her last dust in the grave of the British Empire, and in various European countries as well, and even earlier. Therefore, this intelligence wasn't very valuable to the Immortal City; it was far too common—even S.H.I.E.L.D. had carried out some dubious missions in the past, otherwise Congress wouldn't have approved so much funding every year, and Nick Fury wouldn't have been so brazen as to take in Bruce Banner after receiving warnings from the U.S. military. Natasha Romanoff had put that intelligence along with other intelligence on unfair business competition as a case study for the Immortal City's intelligence department, and it was only when Salomon was digging into Sherlock Holmes's interpersonal relationships that intelligence analysts unearthed it from a backlog of files.
Salomon decided to make the trip himself to resolve this minor matter thoroughly and avoid any unpleasant misunderstandings.
However, his explanation was unsatisfactory, and Mary Morstan (let's call her that for now) immediately began her investigation after memorizing his facial features. But that's a story for later. The Immortal City's level of secrecy regarding Salomon was beyond the reach of a rogue agent. Even the CIA was misled by the smokescreens planted by the Immortal City's intelligence department, so much so that Salomon's information was seen by most intelligence agencies as nothing more than that of an ordinary person with no value. In addition, Salomon himself rarely used social media and kept a low profile (referring to his daily life), making the cover provided by Victoria Hand virtually flawless.
He is currently just an ordinary Oxford University astrophysics graduate student, planning to pursue advanced studies in the academic field. He has some minor research in classical literature, theology, philosophy, particle physics, and theoretical physics. He is a member of a Nobel Prize-winning laboratory and plans to obtain multiple degrees. He also occasionally travels to dangerous battlefields in the Middle East and Africa, the estates of wealthy families, the White House, and Downing Street.
It's very, very ordinary, and not at all remarkable.
Besides his work in the Immortal City and Kamar-Taj, this "model student" was also responsible for teaching at the Athena Mountain Orphanage. This was a task assigned to him by the goddess of wisdom, who went by the alias "Miranda Minerva." The job required him to tutor the high-achieving and struggling students separately, which wouldn't take much time—Alice, the daughter of Wu Guiyue, the guardian of the Hong Kong Temple, was also tutored by Salomon, so this was no challenge for him. Moreover, he had been doing this work since high school, and was still doing it after graduating with his bachelor's degree and becoming a graduate student. This allowed him to directly convey his ideas to the children—one of Athena's goals: to cultivate Salomon's most fundamental and closest associates and core group.
No one knew when she started her plan, but this is what she told Salomon: "Pick a few capable people and put them in your organization." She said this while wearing a very loose white nightgown, busily chugging wine and throwing axes at the target. It was the first time Salomon had ever seen a supersonic axe capable of smashing through a wall, but the muscles in the goddess of wisdom's arms remained as beautiful as a marble sculpture. "You need people you can truly trust, don't you?"
Since he couldn't wear mourning clothes for teaching, Salomon quickly changed his tie and went to the orphanage. He happened to witness little Lorna meeting her best friend. He swore that even birds in wildlife documentaries weren't that noisy during courtship. Fortunately, the girls walked into the orphanage a minute later, so it seemed this wasn't their first time there.
The sorcerer asked with his eyes.
"That was just a charade, you know?" Little Lorna rolled her eyes. "Those aren't real friends. They always ask me where I dye my hair. My real friends already know my hair color, those jerks haven't even noticed! They're just a bunch of pampered rich girls trying to show off their kindness! I should never have agreed to go to that private high school!"
"Okay, I thought girls would scream when they run into friends. Ouch! Why did you pinch me?"
"Because they're only pretending to see you!" Little Lorna said angrily. "They've been like this ever since you picked me up from school that time. Otherwise, they wouldn't have taken a taxi here! How about some fresh, juicy underage high school girls? I think you could handle all five of them by yourself. Don't be surprised, what do you think your two girlfriends would talk about with their mother?"
"I don't want to go to the police station, okay? Hurry up, class is about to start."
"Wait!" Little Lorna spread her arms, blocking Salomon's path. "They'll try to talk to you later."
"So what?" Salomon asked, somewhat puzzled.
"Let's talk about something interesting," Lorna said, hands on her hips. "No astrophysics, no war, philosophy, swords, or guns. I know it's difficult, but please talk about something more suitable for young people, like that Spider-Man on YouTube, that freak in the tight suit has a lot of fans now. Why are you making that face? Don't you even watch YouTube?"
"Hey girl, I'm really busy!" Salomon shrugged. "Besides, I just started a war a month ago, killing countless extradimensional beings. Ammunition, weaponry, funerals, reconstruction! I don't have time for Spider-Man wandering around downtown New York!"
