Chapter 915 True Friends Are Hard to Find (First Update)
Although Salomon had shown the Maximov siblings some of the reasons for the outbreak of war in Sokovia when they were still in the Sokovia Castle, Wanda later recalled that in the years after she and Pietro entered the orphanage, she often saw demonstrations in the streets, usually related to presidential elections, women's rights, animal protection, and environmental protection. Since the outbreak of war, Sokovia had become a democracy, elections seemed to be something everyone could participate in, and every citizen seemed to have gained power.
However, the reality was that by the time Wanda grew up, the entire country seemed to be stuck in the wreckage of that war, or even worse. Gun violence, human trafficking, drugs, sex work—all sorts of terrible things seemed to have sprung up overnight and clung to Sokovia's skin like a rash, with the worst places resembling the ghettos of New York.
The sorority had discovered Eastern European girls from Sokovia during their recruitment drive, and the files stored on the sellers' computers even made Salomon clench his fists; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to control his rage. Even with the Immortal City's ruthless ways, they had never treated humans as disposable entertainment items for profit.
It's truly a miracle that the Maximov siblings are still alive.
Perhaps it wasn't a miracle, but rather the work of magic; Wanda's magical potential had already begun subtly changing her life before it was truly revealed. She was able to obtain jobs she wouldn't have otherwise had, to meet humane bosses, to cause the deaths of malicious thugs, and even the bomb that failed to detonate (this was also evident in Salomon's case, most notably in Jezebel's miraculous arrival in America unharmed after giving birth to him).
Perhaps because Sokovia is so small and geographically distant from Russia, the US and multinational financial groups didn't expend much effort on it. This was arguably fortunate, as in most Eastern European countries where governments were overthrown, the "democratic governments" were led by American Jews granted citizenship. Even in Sokovia, the smallest country, the largest government-backed company was an American enterprise. So the question arises: why would the CIA and the National Endowment for Democracy provide such valuable Stark missiles to such a small country as Sokovia, ending the war so quickly before other powers intervened?
This is the secret Salomon wanted to show Wanda, the secret he got from Nick Fury.
"Don't kill him, I still have a use for him." Salomon stood in front of the cell, supporting Wanda's shoulder.
Dina's delicious cooking left her so full she could only lie back in her chair. Later, Bayonetta and Joan of Arc took her to the sauna Salomon had built himself, so Wanda's complexion was now rosy and her expression relaxed. Just then, Frank Cassel emerged from the dungeon, giving Salomon a completely unfriendly look, and left directly under the escort of soldiers from the First Secret Regiment of Fimbulwinter. Salomon didn't care. When he wasn't wearing his armor, most people in the Immortal City didn't recognize him, giving him the opportunity to avoid tedious formalities. He readily rejected Stephanie's suggestion to identify himself to the Immortal City's staff in a normal manner, because he didn't want to be saluted everywhere he went.
Especially those girls saved by the sorority, they had an indescribable fervor for Salomon. But Salomon did not believe he deserved such an honor. That golden power armor was the master of the Immortal City, the symbol and driving force of a great ideal, the one who saved them and gave them a new life. He was just an ordinary person who wanted an easy life but was forced to dirty his hands and bear the burden of blood debt.
Redemption will come eventually, but it comes after survival. His mission is to ensure that the human race can become a species superior to the Asgardians. That is the purpose for which he was created. He simply did what he was supposed to do and does not deserve any praise.
"Uranium and thorium? No wonder Sokovian businesses have been protesting to the UN!" Victoria Hand's face was grim. She stood side-by-side with Salomon behind the one-way mirror, watching Wanda sit opposite Nick Fury. A report lay on the interrogation table, containing the classified information Wanda wanted to know. "Should I be thankful the US kept this secret so well that even Ultron couldn't find uranium? Otherwise, the trouble we'd face in solving artificial intelligence would have been far more terrifying."
"On the bright side, those mineral deposits are ours now. Thanks to the Martian foundry and Wakanda's technology, we can use decent nuclear energy and nuclear weapons, but the scarcity of fission fuel prevents us from large-scale production, and the small amount of fusion fuel we have is still purchased from Wakanda's lunar mining ships. Now that we have ready-made mineral deposits, we can start the nuclear fission industry without restraint, we just need to be careful to hunt down spies." Salomon had been observing Wanda's expression. Her face began to turn ugly after she started flipping through the document, and when she finally looked at Nick Fury, her face was almost ashen.
Clearly, she was finding it difficult to accept the truth.
The Sokovia coup was not orchestrated by a single party, and the radical Hydra was not the only Nazi in the United States.
However, Wanda obeyed orders well and didn't jump up and kill Nick Fury right then and there. This pleased Salomon. He began to assess Wanda's mental fortitude; if her score was high enough, she could begin the next stage of her magical studies.
"The Martian foundry doesn't yet have the capability for large-scale resource extraction on Mars, and exploration takes a lot of time, while our demand for resources is inexhaustible. Various countries have discovered our activities on Mars, and even though they've kept it from the general public, our time is running out." Salomon shrugged. "By the way, why did you use a hologram to talk to him today?"
"If he knew I witnessed everything he did today, would he commit suicide?"
"No, he values his life most." Salomon laughed. "What about the information I asked the intelligence department to prepare?"
"Shall I give it to you now?"
“No, give it to Agent Natasha Romanoff. She’ll pass the file on to Steve Rogers,” Salomon said. “I gave Captain Rogers a few books the first time I met him, right in front of Nick Fury.”
Victoria Hand suddenly felt a sense of admiration for her current boss, even though she was still a high school student at the time.
"With that information, I believe Steve Rogers will make the right choice. Perhaps we can customize a power suit for him, the red kind. Even if he doesn't support my methods, I believe he will understand my thinking, which is something few in the Avengers can do."
"Are you that confident in him?"
"Of course, because he's a good man, a good man with humanity. He joined the war for all of humanity, and he'll surely taste the irony in that document," Salomon said softly. "Dear Aura, give me a hot towel. We should intervene. Continuing like this isn't good for Wanda's mental health."
