Chapter 942 Chaos and Evil Spirits (Second Update)
[Never going to give you up]
【Never gonna let you down】
【Never gonna run around and desert you】
Salomon muttered a curse under his breath and reached for his phone on the table.
"This is ridiculous! Can't I even have a TV drama night?!"
"Teacher! I think..." Wanda's voice was filled with panic. Salomon didn't have time to get angry; he had to gently reassure her on the other end of the phone to prevent her from losing control. He heard Wanda take a deep breath and then speak at the fastest speed he'd ever used. "I think I killed Ghost Rider!" she said, as if she were inhaling and exhaling the last breath of air in the world. "I'm in the hospital right now, it's true!"
Constantine pointed to the headset, nodded, and confirmed the information's authenticity. Before Salomon could speak, the Imperial Guard had already compiled Robbie Reyes's hospitalization information and handed it to him.
Bayonetta and Jeanne curiously peered over to examine the document. They knew what Ghost Rider was, so when Wanda revealed that she had killed him, the witches' curiosity was piqued. They were eager to know how Wanda had managed to kill an immortal, burning skeleton.
"Oh, that's a pretty bad injury!" Bayonetta said. "And she's not dead yet, but who knows how she'll be later."
"Take your time, okay? Wanda, are you listening?"
Wanda leaned back on the hospital bench, the plastic backrest making her back uncomfortable. She sighed deeply. "I'm listening, I'm listening. Okay, I'll start from the beginning..."
"You're Robbie Reyes?" Wanda walked straight into the auto repair shop bathed in the orange-red glow of the evening sun. She deliberately chose this time to contact her target because the report stated that Ghost Rider would be dispersed by the Sunlight Disk, so she thought this time would make him feel safer. Following the mission procedures set for her by the intelligence department, she had been independently monitoring this new Ghost Rider for a long time. Only after roughly understanding his behavior patterns and family information did she feel confident in persuading him.
The repair shop was filled with the smell of engine oil and metal shavings, where several repaired cars were parked.
Wanda knew nothing about cars, and Sokovia had no car culture; she had no idea what those car logos represented.
“You know me, miss?” Robbie Reyes said with a smile. “But we’re closed now. If you need your car repaired, you can drive over tomorrow.” As he spoke, he turned off the factory lights, slammed the metal gate shut, and locked it in front of Wanda. After doing all this, he turned to Wanda, rattling his car keys. “If your car is parked nearby, I can take a look at it for you. But I can’t stay long; I need to go home to take care of my family.”
“No, that’s not what I meant, and I didn’t come by car.” Wanda shook her head, her long, deep red hair shimmering in the afterglow of the setting sun. “Have you considered using your powers without being seen?” she said. “Unless you’re not Ghost Rider, you definitely know what I’m talking about.”
"Who are you?" Robbie Reyes' smile vanished completely. His gaze swept Wanda up and down. "Do I know you?"
“Actually, you’re not the first Ghost Rider. Someone gave you his power.” Wanda walked over, but maintained a safe distance to avoid triggering a reaction in him. “You’ve only recently become Ghost Rider, and you’re not yet familiar with his abilities. My teacher encountered the first Ghost Rider, and I know your struggles—the voice in your head constantly urges you to burn your sinful soul. You can’t control your other self, can you? I’m here to help you, Robbie Reyes. I saw Ghost Rider graffiti on the street. You’re too eye-catching; it’s against the law. Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Wanda, Wanda Maximoff, a sorceress.”
Wanda smiled nervously, trying her best to make a good impression.
“The wizard… well, I don’t need help, Ms. Maximov.” Robbie Reyes shook his head, trying to squeeze past Wanda. His 1969 vintage Dodge muscle car was parked in the doorway, and Wanda was blocking his way. However, he still managed to walk around Wanda with great restraint. “I can hear the voice in my head, but I can control myself.”
"That's only because you haven't been Ghost Rider for very long." Wanda followed, but kept her distance. "As time goes on, your mind will be taken over by the spirit of vengeance, and you'll no longer be yourself. Think about it, do you have a complete memory of what happened after you transformed? Do you want to become uncontrollable and hurt your own brother?"
Robbie Reyes, who had just opened the car door, froze as if frozen in place. "You investigated me?"
"Apart from what's in your head, you're just an ordinary person, and your brother is an ordinary person too. It wouldn't be difficult for the Immortal City to investigate your family information."
"You're saying I would hurt Gabe?"
“It was bound to happen sooner or later, Robbie Reyes.” Wanda ran over and pressed down on the car door frame. She was now quite confident in the conversation strategy provided by intelligence. Gabe Reyes, Robbie Reyes’s only weakness, and the very reason he was fighting the Los Angeles gangs. “The person who gave you the power is also tormented; he was forced to wander the world, far from his lover. Even if my teacher could bring him back to his senses, such magic has a time limit. You still have time. We have research on Ghost Rider; I can help you control the Spirit of Vengeance!”
“Okay, I don’t think you’re lying.” Robbie Reyes looked Wanda in the eyes. “Tell me everything I need to know. You know, you’re not the first person to come to me.”
Salomon gestured for Constantine to activate the facial recognition system's fuzzy search function. "Who? I need you to describe me, Wanda."
"A woman. Mixed-race face, long dark brown hair, looks like she hasn't slept in a long time." Robbie Reyes shook his head, continuing to swing his car keys. "But that's none of my business. I just want to know what you're trying to say."
"Okay, before we talk about Ghost Rider, you need to understand what the Spirit of Vengeance is. It's not just a burning skeleton, not just the voice in your head, but your soul..."
"Very good, it sounds like your conversation went smoothly." Salomon glanced at Bayonetta and Jeanne. In fact, the Sorcerer Supreme had already deduced that the Spirit of Vengeance might be related to the Stigmata, but there was too little research data to draw a definitive conclusion yet. "Then where did things go wrong? Could it be related to Daisy Jensen or Coulson and his group of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents?"
"No, it's entirely my fault." Wanda's tone became noticeably dejected. "I ran into him."
"What?"
"You mean there's an ancient angel inside me who's always craved killing?"
“That’s right, Mr. Reyes.” Wanda nodded. “Johnny Blaze was able to share his power with you because the Spirit of Vengeance within him summoned another Spirit of Vengeance. This has never happened before; Johnny Blaze had no idea why the Spirit of Vengeance chose you. I need your cooperation so we can find out the reason…”
“If you really know me, you should know I don’t have time. I can’t leave Los Angeles for that Immortal City or to see your teacher. My home is here, and Gabe needs my care.” Robbie Reyes opened the car door and got in. He looked up at Wanda earnestly and said, “I really appreciate you telling me this, but I can’t leave. I haven’t settled my scores yet. I still have time, don’t I? You definitely know my phone number; you can contact me by phone if anything happens.”
“Yes, but you’ll be seen, you’ll be…” Wanda frowned, watching as her target was about to get into the car and drive away. In a moment of panic, she bent down and grabbed Robbie Reyes’s arm, who was sitting in the driver’s seat. Before she could finish her sentence, the orange-red afterglow faded completely, and night enveloped the repair shop. Then, the intense heat from the light source increased at a visible speed, and surging heat and waves of fire poured out of the car door.
Wanda quickly released her grip and took a few steps back.
She watched as Robbie Reyes's once fleshy face slowly turned to ash under the intense heat, revealing orange-red flames erupting from beneath his pale skull.
"Chaos..." the skeleton uttered the searing word, "Die!"
