Chapter 955 Tactical Raid
Chapter 955 Tactical Raid (First Update)
Clad in golden power armor and draped in urban camouflage, the hunter remained concealed atop a high-rise a kilometer from the target residence, intently monitoring it via his helmet-mounted HUD and headset. Constantine had arrived at Reyes's house before Wanda Maximov and had undetectedly installed cameras and deployed a swarm of thermal imaging drones to closely monitor the surrounding area. Dozens of drones simultaneously fed their images into his helmet, where synaptic sensors connected to his nervous system allowed his genetically modified brain to process the information rapidly, ensuring no detail was missed. He saw Wanda, her face etched with worry, get out of the car in front of the house, then pat her face and force a smile—Wanda Maximov didn't want to tell Gabe Reyes the truth—Constantine quickly assessed the situation and then focused his attention on another small section of the HUD.
Sure enough, he found a car near Reyes’s residence.
Before the fire in the hospital ward, the car was not seen on nearby surveillance cameras or dashcam footage of passing vehicles. After the fire, the car passed near Reyes' residence three times within an hour. Without the support of the Immortal City's big data, it would be difficult for an ordinary person to notice this dilapidated car repeatedly loitering in the vicinity. Therefore, the car would pass by on different routes and at different frequencies each time, ensuring that the driver had a clear view of Reyes' residence.
Constantine, after reviewing Los Angeles Department of DMV records, determined that the license plate number did not match the vehicle model, indicating that the car had been fitted with a different plate. The Los Angeles Police Department also had records of the same model in their vehicle theft files. He handed the investigation over to the Immortal City's AI system for information processing and began awaiting the results. Meanwhile, he instructed a drone to follow the vehicle and attempt to capture the driver's facial information.
"Daisy Jensen." Even though the woman was wearing smoky makeup, Constantine still recognized the driver.
Intelligence from the undercover agents confirmed that after Coulson's S.H.I.E.L.D. returned to the public eye, it immediately came under the jurisdiction of the US government. The current director of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a product of the US military's super-soldier serum experiment. Although no data on that research was obtained, scientists in the bio-genetic laboratory judged that the work was not entirely successful; otherwise, the US government would have already begun mass production of super-soldier serum or centipede serum containing the Extremis virus. After the change of power within S.H.I.E.L.D., Daisy Jensen left the organization; the specific reasons are unclear, and the undercover agents did not have access to this information.
Constantine, however, knew that Daisy Jensen had been in contact with Robbie Reyes and had brought him something. It was an incredibly important piece of intelligence, so important that it required the direct intervention of the Imperial Guard, so important that the head of the Imperial Guard had even retrieved relevant fragments from past timelines as a basis for judgment.
Daisy Jensen gritted her teeth and frantically pounded on the car's weak, hissing air conditioner.
The weather in Los Angeles this month was quite pleasant, with comfortable temperatures and humidity. However, Daisy Jensen felt incredibly hot, and even opening the car windows didn't help her cool down. She was anxious. Since the auto repair shop explosion that night, she had spent a long time investigating, only to learn from a prescription drug dealer that Los Angeles General Hospital had recently admitted a critically injured patient. However, just as she confirmed that the patient was Robbie Reyes, the intensive care unit caught fire, and her target disappeared. Right after the auto repair shop explosion, a key figure who had appeared in the Sokovia incident suddenly moved into Reyes' residence, ruining Daisy Jensen's plan to directly question Gabe Reyes.
She was very careful to try to ascertain what the other force involved in the incident was.
It's possible the Avengers also noticed Ghost Rider; after all, Captain America's battle with Ghost Rider had been shown on television before. Directly handing the mission over to the Avengers was no problem, but she couldn't guarantee they wouldn't harm Robbie Reyes. Suddenly, a piercing pain, like a crack in ice, spread rapidly along her nerves from her arm to her brain. Daisy Jensen gasped, letting out a few long, high-pitched gasps. She felt as if her arm had been hit hard with a baseball bat. Her heart almost stopped, her fingers were icy cold and unable to straighten, and it took a long time for her to regain feeling.
This wasn't the first time this had happened. Without S.H.I.E.L.D.'s medication, her arm would probably be shattered by now. This was a side effect of her powers; every time she used her shockwave ability, the reaction force also shook her bones. She frequently used her powers to evade S.H.I.E.L.D.'s pursuit and to interrogate them about Ghost Rider's whereabouts, causing her already poor health to deteriorate further.
Every bone in her arms had hairline cracks.
"I still have a few pills; that should last me a few more days," Daisy Jensen thought. The pain jolted her awake, cold sweat beading on her forehead. Fortunately, she hadn't lost control of the vehicle. She realized she'd lingered in the vicinity too long, likely attracting the attention of someone with ulterior motives—even though she was a self-taught agent, after years of study and practice, the once naive hacker had developed the mindset of a seasoned agent—"I need to leave normally now, avoiding traffic cameras." She recalled the steps from her training manual, her eyes scanning the three rearview mirrors for any pursuers, suspicious pedestrians, or vehicles appearing repeatedly behind the car. "Don't accelerate, proceed normally, and avoid traffic lights," she thought. "No pursuers. How strange, where is that woman's companion?"
Constantine watched as the target vehicle suddenly slowed and nearly lost control. The tracking drone clearly recorded Daisy Jensen's groans of pain and relayed the information to the Royal Guard. Using stealth-specific thrusters, he had already pinned Daisy Jensen's vehicle to the ground. The Royal Guard moved silently between the low rooftops, while also keeping an eye on Reyes's residence. The tracking continued for over half an hour until Constantine discovered that Daisy Jensen had driven into an abandoned neighborhood—where rooms were among the cheapest in the world, costing only a dollar. Even so, no one bought the houses there because it was overgrown with weeds and uninhabited. Even homeless people and drug addicts avoided the area, as it was frequented only by gang members and was considered extremely unsafe to pass through.
Constantine waited quietly for ten minutes, awaiting the intelligence feedback from the drone.
Then he pressed the switch on the halberd handle, and lightning flashed on the ornately embossed halberd blade.
He drew an experimental gravity weapon from his waist as a defensive measure against the target's supernatural abilities. Once ready, he removed the optical camouflage cloak he always wore and glanced at the fuel level of the small thrusters. He gave the order to send all the fuel to the thrusters. The immense thrust instantly propelled the power-armored guards to the top of the building, where they were almost touching the roof. Then, Constantine, like a meteor, crashed through the roof and floor, the old brick walls shattering as easily as foam boards.
Daisy Jensen was drawn by the deafening explosion overhead, the sound of shattering bricks falling all the way down to her floor.
The dark, damp room seemed to welcome sunlight for the first time, the pungent musty smell quickly replaced by the acrid stench of propellant fuel. Without hesitation, the golden figure charged towards her like a bull at full speed, unrestrained violence and a cloud of dust. There were no roars, no anger, only a silent and effective charge. Years of training had made her forget the throbbing pain in her arm. Daisy Jensen instinctively raised her hand and released her power towards the figure. The figure, moving with incredible speed, grabbed something and shot it at her. The expected scene of knocking the enemy down did not occur. This unidentified enemy continued to wield a long weapon, trailing azure lightning, as it closed in on her.
Before she could use her powers again, the enemy had already appeared in front of her, and she didn't even have time to raise her arm.
She heard a loud bang, followed by painful spasms, and then she knew nothing more.
