Chapter 963 Interference
Chapter 963 Interference (First Update)
Dinner was the only time of day Salomon and the two witches would gather at the table. The rest of the time they were either in the bedroom, on the balcony, in the bathroom, in the hall, in the alchemy lab, or in a forest clearing. They were almost constantly together, striving for a perfect union of body and soul—in fact, they had already achieved it, and the ritual could begin at any moment, yet neither the witches nor Salomon brought it up, as if they hadn't done enough. After preparing meals, Dina would run around the manor in her maid's skirt and high heels, searching for her mistress, like a nanny chasing after a child to feed him. Between meals and desserts prepared by the sorority maids, she also fed the bear cubs frolicking in the woods and chased away the lambs that kept trying to enter the garden. The adorable lambs with their short, white fur got along very well with the chubby brown bear cubs.
As the de facto manager of the estate, Diana knew that they were plotting to destroy the entire estate's lawn.
The bear cubs want the honey from the garden, and the lambs want to taste the tulips, roses, and lilies in the greenhouse. However, their schemes are thwarted by Diana every evening when she grabs the bear cubs by the scruff of their necks and gently shoos the lambs out of the garden with her feet. The animals never give up and come back every morning.
While others might perceive their monarch as overly indulgent in pleasure, Dinah, as his personal maid, knew that intelligence from the Immortal City and Kamar-Taj continued to pour into the manor. As the sun shone on the Thames, assault transport ships taking off from the manor were laden with reviewed and commented-on documents. Dinah's first and most important task each morning was not preparing breakfast or collecting a change of clothes, but receiving the documents delivered by the Sisterhood at midnight—documents that would take dozens of people a day to read—and then handing them over to the monarch for his processing.
Salomon will take about twenty minutes to deal with these issues, usually after brushing his teeth and before breakfast.
Stephanie and Diana of the Immortal City understood immediately upon receiving the documents. They had initially thought Salomon would take at least several days to process them. Now it seemed his previously demonstrated document processing speed wasn't his limit; in fact, that very speed was a form of laziness—he'd do anything to keep the witch company. Stephanie, sulking, handed over more documents awaiting review to Salomon. As both head of the Internal Affairs Department and Salomon's secretary, she had the authority—especially since intelligence agents and Martian foundry technicians were currently developing cyber viruses to infiltrate NATO military facilities, preparing for electronic warfare and preventing NATO intervention during the Latvian War. Even if intervention occurred, the Immortal City's information warfare advantage would compress NATO's air superiority, dragging NATO's "peacekeeping forces" into the brutal ground war in Latvian. Given the importance of this task, Stephanie believed Salomon should take on more responsibility to avoid a backlog.
"We should send all the documents in this building to Oxfordshire Manor!"
"Ms. Malik. Isn't this what our job is to process? It's our right!" Young Diana exclaimed, somewhat agitated. "We must advocate for gender equality..."
“Shut up! Have you ever seen Hilary Clinton reclaim her own surname? It’s just a business, not an ideology, you fool! If the monarch wanted, everyone in this building would be unemployed, because he could do it all by himself!” Stephanie was clearly not so easily persuaded, but she knew this vacation was inevitable. Before the vacation, Bayonetta had called her, mentioning her private conversations with Salomon’s foster mother.
They all agreed that Salomon was under immense psychological pressure.
To fulfill that grand dream and save all human lives and the future, he knew that every decision he made had to come at a cost he had to bear himself. Even making a correct decision in the long run could still result in the deaths of thousands of innocent people, and he could not show the slightest compassion. Even prophetic magic could not allow one to see all possible scenarios, and even if all possible scenarios were known, some decisions still had to be made.
Bayonetta knew very well that her husband was a very kind man. Compared to politicians, he was someone willing to stoop down and lie in the mud to pull some poor souls—like the sorority girls—out of hell, and then give them hope and strength to start a new life. Such a kind man making those decisions would only allow the pressure to build up, and sooner or later, he would develop mental health issues. Therefore, Bayonetta felt it was necessary for Salomon to relieve that pressure. Taking advantage of the picnic, Bayonetta repeated these words to Salomon. However, Salomon simply smiled and shook his head. He frankly told the witch that his mental resilience wasn't that bad, and he wouldn't regret his decisions.
But Bayonetta knew he was lying; she knew the boy in front of her very well.
However, Stephanie was unaware of Salomon's attitude, and she still believed she had neglected the monarch's mental health. But she would never admit this to her subordinates, after all, the Lister family was always a subordinate family of the Malik family, and even if Diana was the heir of the Lister family and her future right-hand woman, she had to show the lord's firmness, just as her monarch did in front of her.
"He's a lazy bum! We're planning to go to war in Latvia, and he's off on vacation in Oxfordshire! Diana, these documents are yours. Now get out of here, I need to see the intelligence from the Royal Guard; it's outside your jurisdiction!"
The halberd, crackling with electricity, swung down again at a speed imperceptible to the naked eye, easily cleaving Ghost Rider in two at the waist. Orange-red sparks exploded as the halberd traced a graceful arc. Constantine lowered the halberd, using the remaining force of the attack to draw a circle, flipping it upwards. Just as he was about to slice Ghost Rider in two again, he felt his halberd sink into a quagmire. No matter how much force he used, the blade couldn't touch Ghost Rider's legs. Even his crimson cloak seemed to freeze in mid-air, and the Royal Guard himself was like a tiny insect trapped in amber, unable to move.
Constantine let out a low growl, like a lion trapped in armor.
He watched helplessly as the Ghost Rider, now in two, fell to the ground, bones and flames mingling in a single moment before returning to their original state. The Ghost Rider rose, enraged, but after his initial attack, he didn't continue, instead standing motionless. Were it not for the flames engulfing his body, he would have looked exactly like a skeletal specimen in a medical school. Even a fool would realize what had happened, especially since the individual detection radar integrated into the Royal Guard's power armor clearly indicated a third party had joined the battle. The instant the force preventing further attacks vanished, Constantine immediately pointed his halberd in a direction behind the shattered wall, and, ready to detonate the electric pulse firing pin on his gun, unleashed a burst of explosives along with his fury.
"Explain!" he said coldly, suppressing his anger. "Otherwise, I will sentence you to the crime of disobedience!"
