Chapter 991 The Kindest Person in the World

Chapter 991 The Kindest Person in the World (First Update)

Her exceptional talent and physique allowed her to grow far faster than that of a typical human toddler. Judging by appearance alone, anyone would assume this little girl was around five or six years old. Especially when she reached out her chubby, greasy hands to grab a slice of smoked beef, it was hard to imagine that this child, capable of eating meat with gusto, was only a little over a year old and still babbling. But no matter how astonishing the girl's talent was, her attempt was easily thwarted by Salomon.

The sorcerer grabbed the little hand that was reaching for the plate, put the fork in her hand and squeezed it, teaching her to eat with a fork in a semi-coercive way.

The girl's biological age did indeed increase rapidly, but the sorority's educational methods and the series of problems she encountered that only highly gifted spellcasters would face—such as hallucinations, nightmares, whispers in the shadows, and inexplicable fears—caused her intellectual level to lag behind the speed of her brain's development. The Helstrom siblings, who were half-human and half-Marduk, had the potential to become great demons. The girl born to Sister Gaby, who was possessed by Marduk, and her son Damon Helstrom possessed unparalleled and powerful talents.

In short, her powerful magical talent made her more susceptible to manipulation and corruption than the Helstrom siblings, and more easily possessed by Marduk. Marduk did this because the Helstrom siblings, whether willingly or unwillingly, resisted corruption and refused to awaken their demonic blood; therefore, it needed to create a backup plan capable of interfering with the real world. Now that this backup plan had fallen into Salomon's hands, it would be strange if he didn't make good use of it.

That's why Salomon took her back to the manor to educate her, while keeping her under close surveillance.

The girl clumsily picked up a small piece of beef and carefully put it into her mouth. She chewed a few times, then excitedly turned around, stretched out her arms towards Salomon, opened her hands, and stared directly at him with her wide eyes. She didn't speak, but instead conveyed her thoughts to Salomon with untrained instinct.

The beef was exceptionally tender, cooked using techniques learned from a barbecue restaurant in the Immortal City run by a veteran from Twitchwood, right next to the Soldiers' Bar. Diana went to learn how to master the grill, and her smoked brisket was so delicious that even a teething child could easily eat it. From then on, Salomon and the witch's protein menu became even more abundant. Protein intake was crucial for this family; without sufficient nutrition, they couldn't sustain their strength. The fact that they ate two kilograms of tomahawk steak on their first date was still a frequent source of amusement later on.

The sorcerer smiled and nodded gently, not taking the girl's offense to heart.

He took a napkin and wiped her mouth and hands, then pointed to the fork, plate, and food, saying the words for each. After the girl repeated them in a mumbled voice, he asked her again to pick up the fork and eat on her own.

"What's her name?" Little Lorna touched the girl's tied-up hair, the ticklish feeling making the girl giggle.

There were children of that age in the orphanage. Little Lorna had watched Salomon care for orphans abandoned at fire stations or police stations since she was a child. Some children were sent to adoptive families to start a new life, while some exceptionally talented ones stayed to receive Athena's education. But whether they went or stayed, all the very young children had been cared for by Salomon, including little Lorna herself. Even though Salomon's hands were stained with blood and he had wielded his sword to kill, she dared to say that she had never met anyone more gentle and kind than her brother.

This wasn't entirely biased. Under Athena's tutelage, young Lorna understood the relativity of justice. If necessary punishment and killing could bring about the survival of more people, then it was a viable method. Regardless of whether this idea was right or wrong, Athena deliberately taught her this way, seemingly to support Salomon's pursuit of his ideals.

"She didn't have a name; her mother only gave her a nickname, and nothing else."

Salomon made a gesture, and after the girl finished eating what was on her plate, he lifted her off the chair.

Dina arranged a room for the girl. The purchasing team would soon set off to the town's clothing stores to buy the girl's necessities and change her out of her cheap dress—a purchase Sister Gabby had bought. Salomon didn't want the girl's future to be influenced by Sister Gabby. The original plan was to give Sister Gabby a chance to interact with the child and observe Marduk's influence on Gabby and the girl. However, this plan couldn't continue now because the girl's talent and the troubles she would face in the future were simply too astonishing. Even making this cruel decision now was better than becoming a vessel for Marduk's interference in reality.

Little Lorna protested, "You have to give her a name. She's incomplete without a name."

"Naming is a very, very serious matter, especially for this child. A good name can help her face her destiny and fulfill her mission." What Salomon didn't say was that the reason he hadn't named the girl yet was to examine her true soul name and begin modifying it, thus snatching her destiny back from Marduk's grasp. This meticulous process takes time, which is why the girl still doesn't have a name.

He handed Dinah a decorative silk necklace, its exterior inlaid with some unidentified black material that faintly reflected circuit board-like patterns in the light. If Wanda or Constantine were here, they would definitely recognize this material as the main material lining the lattices of those boxes in the Pasadena Energy Laboratory in Los Angeles. Constantine had retrieved it from the S.H.I.E.L.D. warehouse and the Energy Laboratory to prevent it from gathering dust—the main function of this material was to isolate and bind energy. The Balls and their research team used the extradimensional energy within those boxes to create matter in the real world; it wasn't about creating something from nothing.

Because the need was so urgent, Salomon simply cut a piece from those boxes to make the collar. The front of the collar features a hollowed-out five-pointed star made of gold. When the power is turned on, the intricate circuitry engraved inside the metal creates a protective magic.

"Put this on." He gently held the girl's hand, communicating with her directly through the power of his mind to ensure she could understand him. Unlike the girl's harsh mental impact, his spiritual tendrils were like light snowflakes melting in his palm, slowly merging into the girl's still-awakened soul, without burdening this young spirit. "Don't take it off before you sleep, or you'll have nightmares. You don't want nightmares, right?"

The girl nodded, gently touching Salomon's palm, before being carried away by Dinah and leaving the restaurant. Even as they walked out the door, the child was still waving at Salomon. "Looks like you're good with children, darling," Bayonetta glanced down the hallway. "I like men who can take care of children."

"I knew about this before we even lived together; you were the one clinging to my leg back then."

"If I'm not mistaken, that girl seemed to be calling you 'Daddy'?" Bayonetta said cheerfully, her eyes narrowing. "Children's minds are easy to read, aren't they?"
