A small plot of land in a mountain village

Chapter 109 Iron Tree Blossoms

The baby, nestled in Zhang Niu's arms, stretched out her tiny pink finger, hesitating about which car to choose. She looked up and said, "Big brother, I want the green car. I like that one."

Surprisingly, this child has a good eye for choosing a bike; it's a small bicycle, probably belonging to a first or second grader. After choosing the bike, the child blinked their big eyes and said with a pitiful expression, "Big brother, but... what if I can't ride a bike?"

Ugh, I'm getting annoyed. He can't ride a bike but wants one? This is hilarious! But soon the baby's mom came over, picked him up, and said, "Mommy will teach you. You're smart, you'll learn quickly."

"Really?"

With the arrival of the baby, Tian Tian also learned to charm Chairman Zhang and naturally won a bicycle, but she still needs to learn how to ride it. Wen Wen also got a bicycle, which she can use as her special vehicle at Happy Little House.

Chairman Zhang didn't seem to care much about where the bicycle came from. He was currently busy teaching his granddaughter to ride a bicycle, which was more important than going to work, and the two of them could be heard laughing from time to time.

Elderly people all hope that their children are happy and that they can enjoy the joys of family life. Just like Chairman Zhang now, he is holding onto the back seat of the bicycle, smiling as he helps Tian Tian hold onto the bike steady.

The whole family joined in, and seeing Niu Niu riding her bike so confidently in the open space, the baby was full of confidence, thinking that he would soon be able to do the same as Niu Niu.

"What are you looking at? Hurry up and get all the little rabbits down," said the fat man standing next to him.

Basket after basket of rabbits were moved into their own yard. The little girls, who were still studying, abandoned their bicycles and ran into the yard.

Zhang Niu planned to leave the rabbits in the front yard until no one was around at night, and then move them into his spatial dimension.

Looking at the motionless little rabbit, the baby started asking a million questions. Why is the little rabbit lying still? Why are all these rabbits the same?

Zhang Niu could only helplessly say that the rabbits were sick, just like a sick baby, and that his older brother was preparing to treat them.

"Big brother, the bunny will be very well-behaved, just like the baby."

The little girls looked at the sick rabbits in front of them, their eyes welling up with tears. If Zhang Niu hadn't brought them out, it probably would have rained heavily.

Especially when the baby rushes into the mother's arms, saying, "The bunny is sick, and the baby is very sad."

It seems the little girl cares a lot about the sick animals.

But it's a devilish torment for cats; the poor cats can be found by the baby no matter where they hide.

Every time the cat sees its owner, it blinks its big round eyes and gives a pitiful look. It's because the cat is too stupid and always hides in the same old places, which makes Zhang Niu laugh.

"Ah Niu, you bought so many ornamental rabbits, are you planning to raise them yourself?" Chairman Zhang had some knowledge about these rabbits.

Zhang Niu laughed and said, "It just so happens that the rabbits were sick. I have some folk remedies that I think can cure them, so I bought them to try." This was the only thing he could say to Chairman Zhang.

"So you were planning to make a fortune through earthwork, but you're quite adventurous. I certainly wouldn't do that; I'm too old to have that same fighting spirit anymore." He sighed, reflecting on the passage of time.

Li Guang and his men thought so too, but when they learned that the milk-flavored cherries were selling well in the provincial capital, everyone was very happy, which was only natural.

In the evening, the younger sister rode her mountain bike home with Wenwen as a passenger, probably to show off in the village.

At ten o'clock, darkness enveloped Happy Abode. Zhang Niu also locked the front gate of the courtyard, feeling somewhat like a thief.

Move all the plastic crates that held the rabbits into the space.

As soon as you enter the space, the little rabbits inside turn their eyes and curiously look around, making them feel as if they have returned to their mother's embrace.

Light filters through the space, scattering across the water's surface and exuding a strong sense of nature.

The extra layer of space above gradually began to affect the layer below.

The little rabbit suddenly became lively, and was noticeably much stronger than it had been outside.

He carried the rabbits to the pond, basket by basket, and forced each rabbit to drink some pond water before setting them aside. Even though there were only about five hundred rabbits, Zhang Niu was still exhausted.

After a short rest, Zhang Niu regained his energy. The natural space was still immeasurable. Just now, when he was squatting, his legs were numb and his back ached, but who would have thought that he would recover to his peak condition in such a short time.

If my parents could come in here, they probably wouldn't have any problems. Maybe I should find some time to let them come in and stay for a while. But then I thought better of it and decided to leave it for later.

White rabbits lay scattered on the ground, their long ears twitching, seemingly quite content. Zhang Niu couldn't make out their exact appearance, but he suspected the illness was treatable.

After taking care of the rabbit, I stood on the fruit tree, picked a reddish nectarine, took a bite, and found that the freshly ripened fruit tasted even better than last time. Looking up at the sunlight streaming down, I wondered if it was some kind of diamond-shaped sun...

A swarm of bees, each as thick as a thumb, flew back and forth on the fruit tree by the pond. The buzzing sound could be heard from time to time. These bees were really too powerful. If they were to fly out, everyone would run away at the sight of them.

Zhang Niu still felt it was best to stay away from these bees; if they stayed there too long, they might even evolve.

He turned and walked away into the distance.

"Huh?" I saw many long flower tips, about forty or fifty centimeters long, peeking out from a grove of cycads in the distance, with branches and leaves spreading out all around.

Could this be the cycad about to bloom? But I came in a few days ago and there were no flowers. This thought popped into my head.

I quickly ran towards the cycads and checked all the cycads in the vicinity. All of them had sprouted flowers of varying lengths.

The villagers often say that the flowering of the cycad is a sign of good fortune. Could it be that I am about to become rich?

Walking over to the cycad pots, I took a closer look. Each cycad had sprouted tender yellow flower tips. Cycads with flower tips are the most valuable, but I've been busy lately, so I'll leave them here for now and try to switch them out later, giving them a big surprise tomorrow.

I climbed the cloud ladder for the second time. This time, I wasn't as excited as before. After passing through the cloud wall, I looked up and saw the diamond-shaped sun spinning around. It seemed unchanged; it was like a blind man lighting a lamp—a waste of time.

However, upon closer inspection, he discovered quite a few traces. Small brown mounds suddenly appeared on the land. Excited, Zhang Niu dug down with his bare hands, wanting to know what was underneath, but the mounds were too deep, and he found nothing.

The entire space was filled with earthen mounds, and finding nothing of interest, Zhang Niu had no choice but to return to the lower level.

Now, the upper space is driving the development of the lower space. I just saw the cycads, and the Buddha's Hand citrons here are already turning yellow, with big yellow palms hanging in the tender leaves.

Buddha's Hand is a well-known medicinal herb, and it's already starting to mature here. Normally, Buddha's Hand wouldn't turn yellow and mature until winter, but my spatial speed has advanced it by several months.

I can only process these Buddha's Hand citrons after I finish dealing with this fruit. Right now, I should move some cycads out.

The cycads they brought in weren't even as tall as Zhang Niu. Now, with the flower buds added, they're almost as tall as Zhang Niu.

Zhang Niu picked some flowers, the kind that had just bloomed, and decided to deal with the little rabbit on the ground after he took care of the iron tree.

Back in the yard, I opened the door, stuck my head out, and looked around. I saw several green eyes in front of me. Weren't those the big wolves? They were still wandering around at night.

The wolf was very puzzled by its owner coming out in the middle of the night.

Standing next to the cycads, I wondered whether to replace them all or mix a few in. After thinking about it, I decided to replace them all!

In the darkness, a person carrying an ironwood tree vanished in a flash, only to reappear a moment later, repeating this cycle over and over again.

This was tough on Zhang Niu. Selecting the right cycads took time; they needed to grow to a similar size, which was quite a hassle. His arms were scratched quite a bit by the serrated branches and leaves.

After finishing with the cycad, I went back to tend to the little rabbits. By the time I was done, it was already past 2 a.m. I took out my phone, drank some cold water, and went to sleep, otherwise I definitely wouldn't be able to get up tomorrow.

The cat in the dark watched its owner come and go. It flapped its large wings and purred softly, making noises that were hard to understand.

After a hard day's work, Zhang Niu lay down on the bed and immediately fell asleep.

When the iron tree began to bloom, Chairman Zhang's expression changed as he went for a walk early in the morning.

"The cycad is bearing flowers!"

Chairman Zhang, who had come out early in the morning, was walking along the path lined with cycads when he was suddenly surprised to find that all the cycads had sprouted flower tips overnight. This was quite a rare occurrence.

Hearing the noise, the fat man crawled out of bed. "Who's yelling? Can't I even get some sleep? It's like we're kissing and a little kid comes running up and interrupts us."

The early summer mornings are still a bit chilly.

"What's that old man doing, yelling so early in the morning? Can't anyone get any sleep?" someone shouted at Chairman Zhang.

"Take a look at this first..."

"Hey, isn't that a cycad? Ah! Why is the cycad blooming?" His facial expression shifted several times before he recovered.

Pointing at the iron tree, he exclaimed, "This... how is this possible?"

The saying "When the cycad blooms, the sow climbs a tree" has been circulated countless times across the country. Fatty remembers a cycad forest in a certain province where the cycads bloom every year, attracting many foreign visitors who raise their hands in praise.

What incredible luck Zhang Niu had! I remember my friend even bought this cycad for him. It's so strange—fragrant cherries, an early-blooming cycad—one thing after another flashed through my mind.

A flowering cycad symbolizes wealth and good fortune. Seeing one means I'm about to have a stroke of luck; I should hurry back and buy a lottery ticket.

Watching the fat man run off into the distance, Chairman Zhang wondered if he was going to take a nap.

The sound of a car rumbling rang out.

"Could it be that Fatty is going back?" He wasn't sure, but why did he drive off like that? This puzzled Chairman Zhang.

The fat man drove off, and Li Guang got up the next morning. When he went outside and saw the cycad with its yellow flower pillars, he opened his mouth, speechless.

Good heavens, I never thought I'd see cycads bloom, even if it's still just flower pillars, it'll be soon, especially since there's a whole patch of them. His usual refined demeanor is completely gone now, it's quite a surprise.

When the baby's mother came out, she had never seen such a cycad before. All the cycads in the bamboo alley had bloomed overnight. Had aliens come? Otherwise, how could they all bloom at once?

It's like waking up one morning to find out you're the world's richest person—it's full of confusion and doubt.
