A small plot of land in a mountain village

Chapter 142 The Sound of Birdsong [Second Update]

These red fruits were actually edible. Zhang Niu took a big bite of the remaining part, and red juice flowed out of the red fruit.

As the fruit entered his mouth, Zhang Niu felt as if he were reliving the past, with a hint of nostalgia, as if he were experiencing reincarnation.

It's amazing how this world works. After eating the fruit, I instantly recalled many fun things from my childhood, most of which were things I had almost forgotten.

With only the red juice that had once flowed out still clinging to his hands, Zhang Niu knew that he had just tasted a fruit with medicinal properties, which would now be more appropriately called a "aftertaste fruit."

Then I remembered the purple fruit from earlier. That fruit was probably a reminder of the hardships of a lifetime! That was the only guess I could make. The purple fruit was even more bitter than bitter melon.

Zhang Niu is now being offered free food, but he doesn't dare to take another bite.

The bitterness was more than a hundred times worse than that of herbs, a metaphor Zhang Niu secretly used in his mind.

I originally wanted to try other fruits, but now that I've tasted this aftertaste fruit, I don't want to try any more. Anyway, there are plenty of fruits in the lake, and I have plenty of time, so I'll try them all.

Except for the purple berries, you can try all the others.

Just as they were about to slip away to the upper space, a red shadow appeared and easily rolled onto Zhang Niu's shoulder.

It turned out that Little Dot had come in after watching TV outside. This was quite rare, as Little Dot was usually outside staring intently at the TV while Zhang Niu was inside the space.

Little Dot didn't care what Zhang Niu was doing in the space, but who knew he would come in today.

The little creature perched on my shoulder stretched out its tiny paws and pointed at the purple fruit floating on the lake, squeaking incessantly.

Zhang Niu knew exactly what was going on, but he was a little puzzled as to why the little one would choose this bitter purple fruit.

"These purple fruits are very bitter, do you really want to eat them?"

"Squeak squeak" continued waving its claws, seemingly determined to taste the purple fruit.

The little one wanted to taste the fruit, so Zhang Niu naturally had to do his work. He picked up the purple fruit and held it in his hand. This one was smaller than the previous one. Even those born from the space had different sizes.

He handed the purple fruit to the little guy, who grabbed it and started munching on it, glancing at Zhang Niu every now and then and bringing the purple fruit closer.

Not bitter? Watching the little one stick out its red tongue and gently lick the purple liquid that flowed out, looking so sweet, does this little one have a problem with its sense of taste?

But then I thought, wait a minute, if you can taste the flavor of food, how could this be? Oh well, I won't get any answers by asking anyway, I'll just go upstairs and see.

Ever since that time the light shone so brightly, Zhang Niu went up several times afterward, but he couldn't get in. As soon as he poked his body out, the bright light made it impossible for him to open his eyes.

This made Zhang Niu even more curious about what changes would occur after the strong light; he was really looking forward to it.

After finishing a purple fruit, the little one didn't pester Zhang Niu for another. Instead, he squinted his eyes, seemingly lost in thought.

Standing at the top of the ladder, you can see the white mist below. This is caused by the stream water falling from above and splashing up. But is the stream water upstream endless?

Watching the stream flow down from above, splashing water and stirring up the colorful fruits below.

Go through this passage.

Zhang Niu was already in the upper space. When he came in, he covered his eyes, but there was no bright light. The little guy with the shoulder injury covered his mouth and was secretly laughing.

"What are you laughing at? Don't laugh. This is all about insurance."

The more Zhang Niu said this, the more Little Dot covered his mouth and laughed. If they were on a bed, Zhang Niu was sure Little Dot would be rolling around on the bed.

When he sees something interesting on TV, this guy will roll around on the bed, and by the time Zhang Niu sees him, they are already very close.

The space was shrouded in mist, and at first glance, it looked very different from before.

Damn it, what's with this bright light? After so many days, it's turned into this white mist, seemingly real yet unreal, making it impossible to see clearly.

According to Zhang Niu, from where he was standing, he could only see up to five meters away. Beyond that, he couldn't see clearly. If it weren't for his improved eyesight, five meters would be considered far too far.

The brown earthen pillars in front of me have completely transformed into tree trunks with seven-colored leaves; this transformation is truly incredible.

Zhang Niu stared intently at each tree, its trunk radiating seven colors. As he looked upwards, he saw different colors emanating from each segment, and the original earthen pillars and spikes were still completely preserved.

The seven-colored leaves were still visible among the thorns. The original brown soil pillar had been transformed into this, and Zhang Niu couldn't help but feel surprised.

You could tell from the joy on his face.

The upper space has undergone several changes to achieve its current state.

To Zhang Niu's surprise, there were fruits hanging inside the thorns, and they were all seven-colored fruits.

After taking a few steps forward and standing in front of the tree trunk, Zhang Niu was still annoyed by the sharp thorns that gleamed coldly. Why did his own space have to produce these damned thorns?

Unlike the few scattered seven-colored leaves outside, the seven-colored fruit did not exhibit any color variations.

In Zhang Niu's opinion, the seven colors should be fixed, unlike the leaves, which makes them even more pleasing to the eye.

There weren't many seven-colored fruits hanging on the tree trunk. Hilla had a few, and the surrounding trees were all the same. There was no case where one tree had an unusually large number of fruits.

The little one on my shoulder squeaked and pointed its tiny paws upwards.

Following the paw, Zhang Niu couldn't help but let out a sound of surprise.

At the top of the tree, which is entirely emerald green, grows a green flower bud that is about to bloom.

If it weren't for the tiny creature squeaking and chirping, most people wouldn't notice the green flower buds hidden by the mist on the tree trunk.

Unlike the trees outside, this tree trunk doesn't have a treetop; it's more like a series of stone pillars. It's not bad.

Upon closer inspection, one could see that the tops of the other trees were covered with green flower buds.

Looking at the little one on my shoulder, wasn't it born by the pond?

This space is likely to give birth to strange creatures again, but will there be so many this time? I simply can't believe it.

But the facts before us prove that everything is true: the green buds on the tree trunk must be giving birth to a strange beast. Could it be a miniature version of the little creature?

Zhang Niu found it amusing; if that were the case, even he himself probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference!

The little creature, perched on the shoulder, suddenly leaped up and landed on the sharp thorns of the tree trunk. The protruding thorns were exposed for a considerable length, and the little creature stood precisely on the exposed part.

Look at how well it balances; even Zhang Niu had to admit it was impressive.

If he were a gymnast, his performance would be absolutely top-notch.

It seems the little one must come in often while I'm away, otherwise how could he be so familiar with it? Judging from his familiar posture, he's only been picking, it's not a one-time thing.

With a gentle swipe of its sharp claws, a seven-colored leaf fluttered down, tumbled, and the shimmering leaf was caught in its claws.

The seven-colored leaves that fell into the claws did not, as last time, merge into the ground or into the body.

The seven-colored leaves, in the little one's paws, seem no different from the normal leaves outside. He even shakes the leaves a few times when he picks them up.

The leaf seemed too small. Nevertheless, I put it in my mouth and started munching on it.

The seven-colored leaves that had blended into the ground were now turning into the same color as the leaves outside in the little one's paws. Could it be from that gentle swipe of his paw just now? He recalled that swipe of his paw earlier.

After finishing a seven-colored leaf, the little one's interest was not diminished, and he stared at the seven-colored fruit inside the thorns.

The seven-colored fruit inside the thorns, judging from the current appearance, is a little bigger than the plums at Happy Little Abode, but smaller than the peaches. The little one blinked and scratched its head with its little paws, as if it was thinking about something.

Zhang Niu watched silently, wondering if the little one would be unable to resist and would directly take one out to taste...

After thinking for a moment, the little one jumped down and bounced back onto Zhang Niu's shoulder.

This has quite a bit of potential, but we know the fruit isn't ripe yet and we'll have to wait a while longer.

Judging from this, the seven-colored fruit must have just appeared recently, otherwise the little one wouldn't have stood there thinking for a while. This tells us that the fruit has just grown.

Holding the little guy, Zhang Niu examined him closely, looking him up and down. It seemed that this guy must have eaten quite a few seven-colored leaves, but he just wouldn't grow taller.

Only the two bumps on his head have grown considerably larger than before. Touching them reveals hardened calluses, much to the little one's displeasure.

It seems that the two bumps on her forehead still don't really like being touched.

The effects of the seven-colored leaves probably all went into the bump on her head. This bud probably won't grow. With so many seven-colored leaves, this bump will probably bulge out completely.

I was just about to go a little further in to see what changes had occurred.

A clear bird song filled the space.

Echoes reverberated, the sound exceptionally clear, the chirping piercing the eardrums, causing Zhang Niu to cover his ears for a moment.

What on earth was that sound? It was so clear and bright, it hurt my eardrums.

In the blink of an eye, the little figure on my shoulder turned into a red shadow and disappeared into the mist.

Could it be that a strange beast is about to be born from within these green flower buds? Looking up, the green flower buds on the tree trunk showed no signs of emerging.

Never mind, I'll go in and take a look anyway. The space isn't very big, so I should be able to find a place to make a sound.

The fog was thick, and Zhang Niu could only walk at a snail's pace, trying to find the source of the sound while also watching out for the mounds of earth rising up under his feet.

Having to use your mind for so many things is really tiring.

The further you go in, the more the fog condenses, reducing visibility from five meters to three meters, shrinking the distance considerably.

The bird's chirping was heard several times, and Zhang Niu could vaguely guess its approximate location.

Finding a spot in this space almost killed me; it was really tough, like searching for a needle in a haystack.

This is the original center of the space.

After groping his way through, Zhang Niu realized that he had unknowingly arrived at this place. He was now standing by the stream, and not far in front of him was a lush green tree whose trunk would require several people to encircle.

The tree before me was several times larger than the ones I had seen before, and its seven-colored leaves and fruits were exceptionally abundant, hanging densely. (To be continued. For more chapters and to support the author, please log in and read the official version!)
