A small plot of land in a mountain village

Chapter 147 A Pie Falling from the Sky {First Update}

The following day, Jixiang took on the role of the new reminder officer.

Chairman Zhang started exercising early in the morning, accompanied by an auspicious chirping sound. In fact, it's not much different from an alarm clock; it just serves as a reminder that morning has arrived.

Looking at the auspicious creature hovering in mid-air, a faint smile appeared on his lips. Chairman Zhang's feelings for this newcomer, Jixiang, had been changing from initial surprise to gradual fondness.

Fatty wasn't so lucky. Jixiang didn't seem to care much about him and always seemed to have a hint of hostility. It seems that Da Hong and the others' words were quite useful; at least for now, Fatty didn't dare to go against Da Hong and the others.

In the morning, Fatty was still hiding under the covers. It was best for me to stay in bed and sleep as well, so as not to go out and cause trouble for Jixiang outside.

After breakfast, a black Audi drove into Happy House.

Zhang Niu, who was busy picking peaches in the orchard, saw a car coming in through a gap. He was puzzled. He clearly didn't recognize the car. Who could it be? So he put down what he was doing.

The Audi was parked under the carport, and a young man and woman got out. They were both quite young, but they didn't have the naivety that young people usually have; instead, they had mature and confident expressions on their faces.

"It should be here!" came the girl's soft voice.

Looking around, I was amazed to find that the changes here were quite significant compared to when it was back then.

If Zhang Niu were here, he would recognize this young man. He is actually Assistant Zhang, who was brought by the village chief from the previous village. What brings him here again today?

"You've come to see Zhang Niu, haven't you?" Chairman Zhang came out of the bamboo house and saw a man and a woman standing next to the Audi.

"Well, we don't know where Zhang Niu is. We've come here to talk to him about something." Assistant Zhang sized up the old man in front of him.

"Come sit in the bamboo pavilion, you should be able to come out soon." He led the two into the bamboo pavilion.

Chairman Zhang is right. After hearing the car outside, Zhang Niu came out. If he had stayed inside, people outside might have thought he was impolite.

"Zhang Niu, the man you're looking for, is here." He pointed to the young man who walked in.

Zhang Niu walked into the bamboo pavilion and was naturally a little surprised to see the Audi outside. He wondered who it was, but judging from the pavilion, it seemed that Chairman Zhang was entertaining them.

"You must be Zhang Niu! I'm Zhang Cheng from the law firm."

Before Zhang Niu could even enter, Zhang Cheng began to introduce himself.

Zhang Niu was quite surprised to learn that the person was a lawyer at such a young age. He had seen the nice car outside and knew that the person was no ordinary person, but he never expected that he was a lawyer.

The question that arises is that the lawyer himself is just over a year old and rarely deals with such matters, but he probably sees them quite often on television. Who would have thought that one day they would come knocking on his door?

"Hello, Attorney Zhang, I am Zhang Niu, the owner of this farm." Since the other party had introduced himself, Zhang Niu naturally couldn't fall behind and began to introduce himself.

Sitting in the chair, he recognized Assistant Zhang, who had been there before.

After everyone was seated, Assistant Zhang took a document out of his black briefcase and placed it on the table.

"I'm puzzled as to why I came to you this time! You can take a look at this information first, and I will explain anything you don't understand later." He pushed the information on the table to Zhang Niu.

The other person took out the document, and Zhang Niu readily accepted it, flipping through the first page and reading it down, his expression constantly changing.

Chairman Zhang could see the constantly changing expressions on Zhang Niu's face, and wonder what was making Zhang Niu so excited.

He quietly closed the documents, placed them on the table, and let out a deep breath. "Do I know this homeowner?"

Assistant Zhang had expected to be asked some questions about the house, but what he received instead was... a question that was rather difficult for him to answer.

Assistant Zhang could only smile wryly and reply, "Actually, I don't know either. We subordinates have to do our jobs well when we're told to. You should ask him about this yourself later!"

This document is actually a statement of the gift of the house. Attorney Zhang Cheng, who was standing in front of him, naturally guessed what this was about. It should be a document with a signature!

Indeed, inside were the documents and materials that bestowed everything, including Xiandu Mountain, upon Zhang Niu. Otherwise, Zhang Niu's expression wouldn't have changed so constantly as he read them.

Before this, he had really wanted to meet the owner of that house. He thought it was the residence of a high-ranking official, but fate had played such a cruel joke on him.

That place was actually going to be given to Zhang Niu; wasn't that just asking for trouble?

Zhang Niu asked that question, only to be met with Zhang's assistant's "I don't know." Since the assistant was working for someone else, and couldn't get an answer, he naturally wouldn't stubbornly continue to press the matter.

This benefits no one.

Zhang Niu still couldn't understand how things had turned out this way, since he didn't even know the owner of the house.

Judging from the current location, just digging the pond, building the road, constructing the bamboo houses, and pouring the cement would cost at least two or three hundred thousand yuan. Only now do I understand why the same bamboo houses and fishponds were built there—isn't this just a replica of Happy Little Abode?

This thought truly made Zhang Niu's heart tremble. It was simply unimaginable. At first, he just thought that others were also living in good bamboo houses and experiencing the ecological environment.

How could my judgment be so poor? I couldn't even see the clue in such a small matter. It's too late to realize it now.

Chairman Zhang watched Zhang Niu shaking his head, then looked at the document on the table. What could have caused Zhang Niu to become like this? Not only did Chairman Zhang not know, but even Zhang Niu was still completely baffled.

It feels like a dream. I don't know if it's real or not. It's like a huge windfall has fallen from the sky. Anyone would doubt the authenticity of this information.

Assistant Zhang observed Zhang Niu's change in demeanor but didn't say much. As long as this matter was handled well, that was all that mattered to him; the rest was none of his concern. So, naturally, he remained silent.

"Old Zhang, could you take a look at this document for me?" He grabbed the document from the table and handed it to Chairman Zhang.

While he was still puzzled, he remembered Chairman Zhang next to him and figured he could understand the matter, so he quickly handed the document to Chairman Zhang, hoping to get some insights.

Chairman Zhang was very curious and took the document. For him, he used to have to read documents every day, but now he just asked his subordinates to give Ah Niu some advice.

As he flipped through the pages, Chairman Zhang frowned deeply. Many of the contents shocked him. How could this be? Was it really just a case of too much money, or was it a trap waiting for Zhang Niu to fall into?

Zhang Cheng silently observed the changes in the two people, fully aware of the content. He had the same thoughts when he first read it, but then he returned to normal.

"I've taken a look at this document, and there don't seem to be any major problems. But I'd like to ask, why was it given away for free?" After reading the document, Chairman Zhang naturally had many questions in his mind.

"I'm the lawyer for this case, and perhaps I can answer your question," Zhang Cheng said calmly.

"Alright, I'd also like to know why the owner of this house would give away Xiandu Mountain, which is under his name, to Zhang Niu." Getting an answer would be the most satisfying thing.

Since they brought a lawyer, it's probably true. Although they look quite young, we can't deny that they're professionals.

"The owner of this house is currently too busy to manage, so he left behind this hilltop and a few bamboo houses. You are running Happy Cottage. From your perspective, the benefits that place would bring to your business development are immeasurable. Most importantly, the owner of this house is from your village, so you can rest assured that this place is being handed over to you."

After saying that, Zhang Cheng took out another document from his bag. "Take a look at this. It's also a gift contract, but with an added clause about how much to pay per year."

This place really was built by the villagers, just as they said. But why didn't they come out after building it? Why did they insist on keeping it mysterious? This was something Zhang Niu couldn't understand.

Upon hearing Zhang Cheng's words, Zhang Niu felt that they made sense. However, another guess soon arose in his mind: Could it be that the homeowner had investigated him or was very familiar with him? The village chief and his parents at home had both given clues.

It can be concluded that the homeowner must know the person and have a deep memory of them, but cannot think of a suitable person.

Besides this document, Zhang Cheng unexpectedly pulled out another document with a treaty attached. Could it be that he really considered everything without missing a detail?

Upon receiving the document, I found that the content hadn't changed much; the only difference was the addition of payment information at the end, specifying how much to pay annually.

"I don't know if the two of them are satisfied with this document. This will put a burden on you, but it will also make you able to handle it," Zhang Cheng said after seeing that Zhang Niu hadn't answered for a long time.

This document is indeed slightly different from the previous one. One was a windfall, while the other was given away with financial resources. To put it bluntly, it was still a free gift.

Closing the file, Zhang Niu, a stubborn man, insisted on getting to the bottom of things, saying, "I don't know why you contacted me."

Upon hearing this, the two burst into laughter. "You didn't think of such a simple question? You run the mountain resort, and you're the only place around here. Besides, you're an honest person, so it's definitely the right choice to entrust it to you."

It seems I was really confused in my haste; I couldn't even guess something so simple, which is truly embarrassing.

"We were asked to help with this by higher-ups. Your Happy Little Abode is currently under development. Together with the place in Xiandu Mountain, this place can finally be considered a resort. I don't know if I'm right," Assistant Zhang said to Zhang Niu, word by word.

I never expected their investigation to be so thorough. My place was indeed too small. I had only just thought about it, but they had already guessed it.

It seems that the mountain peak of Xiandu Mountain is determined to be his.

It's foolish not to take advantage of a good deal. Since they insist on giving it to me, I might as well accept it! Anyway, that place is very close to here. Once they build a road there, all my troubles will be solved. (To be continued. For more chapters and to support the author, please log in and read the original version!)
