The detective is dead, I did it.
Chapter 109 Three Dead
Chapter 109 Three Dead
Lilith is dead.
Last night, she was sitting in the restaurant, holding Emily's hand, saying, "I will verify your identity, and I will tell everyone that you are not a witch."
She spoke softly but firmly when she said those words, but now the other person is dead.
If she survives just one more night, Emily's identity will be thoroughly investigated, and the witch's suspects will be narrowed down to the point where she can hardly hide.
Everyone understands this principle, so Lilith's death was expected.
Sherry stood in the doorway, her head tilted slightly to one side. Her large golden eyes lingered on Lilith's corpse for a moment, then looked away, then looked back, then looked away again.
She tried to adjust her expression, turning down the corners of her mouth and squeezing her eyebrows together, attempting to conjure up a "sad" look.
But that carefully crafted sadness shattered the moment she opened her mouth.
"Oh dear, Miss Lilith is dead too. How sad."
Something about her tone was off; it was light and airy. But it wasn't indifference; rather, it was an inappropriate lightness.
Emily suddenly looked up, her golden curls bouncing off her cheeks to reveal a tear-streaked face, her eyes red as she stared at her.
Shirley scratched her head. "That's not what I meant. I am genuinely saddened by Miss Lilith's death..."
"She didn't finish speaking because Emily had already turned her face away, so she had no choice but to shut her mouth and stop talking."
Li Ang turned around and walked to Caltacia's side.
The other person leaned against the door frame, arms crossed, their gaze fixed on Lilith, never looking away.
"What are you doing here?" Li Ang asked.
"I wanted to know Lilith's test results as soon as possible. But I never expected—"
She didn't finish speaking. Nor did she need to.
I never imagined Lilith was dead. I never imagined that the truth she uncovered could no longer be spoken of by her.
Just then, a series of hurried footsteps came from the end of the corridor, and Isabella rushed out from around the corner.
"I've finally found you!" she gasped, her face flushed. "Aloy is dead!"
"What?!" Caltacia straightened up from the door frame, clenching her fists even tighter.
Isabella's gaze shifted from Caltacia to Leon, and then to the open cell door.
Her pupils contracted sharply, as if she had considered some terrible possibility. "Wait, you're all gathered here—could it be—"
So she moved closer and saw Lilith's body through the iron bars.
"How could this be—Lilith is dead too?" She covered her mouth with her hand, but the words still escaped through her fingers, filled with disbelief.
"Charlotte is dead too," Li Ang said.
Isabella whirled around. "Three people died in one night? How is that possible? Aren't witches only allowed to kill one person?"
""
"The rules state that the witch must kill one Arbiter each night," Caltacia said coldly. "But what if the witch possesses the ability to act multiple times?"
"But Charlotte can fake her death, right? Did the other party activate their own ability?"
"You can only enter a state of suspended animation on the first or fifth night," Caltacia continued. "Today is the second night. The conditions are not met."
Upon hearing this, Isabella's face turned from pale to ashen.
Li Ang turned around and walked back to Lilith's side, squatted down to observe her closely, and noticed that her hand was half-clenched, her fingers slightly curled, as if she had grabbed something before she died.
He looked down following her finger and saw a silver chain hidden in a crevice of the haystack.
One end of the chain was pressed under her body, while the other end was exposed, with a deep blue gem hanging from the end.
Li Ang reached out and pulled the chain out of the haystack, discovering that the necklace was broken, the break was very fresh, and it had obviously just broken recently.
Moreover, there is a fine crack on the surface of the gemstone, which extends from the top to the bottom and is almost invisible if you don't look closely.
[Evidence: A damaged necklace. Silver chain, sapphire pendant with cracks on the gemstone's surface, and the chain itself is broken. The inside of the necklace is engraved with the letters L·L Lilith Riddle. Dark residue adhering to the edge of the pendant is remnant of shapeshifting ability.]
Emily peeked over from the side, clearly having also noticed the necklace. "This is—the necklace Lilith always wears. She never takes it off."
Li Ang put the necklace into his pocket.
Through this necklace, he was now even more certain that the detective had faked her death.
After discovering the body, he examined the surface of the body but found nothing that could be considered evidence.
Unless he takes off the other person's clothes, like those white stockings, but whether that counts as evidence is another matter.
"Let's go back to the restaurant first and tell the others about this," Li Ang said, looking at everyone present.
No one objected; everyone followed him toward the restaurant.
Everyone else had been waiting in the restaurant for a long time.
"Lilith is dead," Li Ang said first as he sat down at the round table.
He took the necklace out of his pocket and placed it on the table; the silver chain and the sapphire glittered in the sunlight.
"There are remnants of the witch's power on this, which leads to the preliminary conclusion that Lilith was killed by the witch."
This conclusion did not surprise anyone; in fact, it was the most logical guess.
"But Aloy is dead too," Boudica said with a somber expression, clearly aware of Aloy's death as well.
On the other side of the round table, Fibel and Elena were clearly unaware of the situation. Upon hearing that there was a second victim, the former's eyes widened slightly, while the latter's mouth gaped open.
"We already know." Li Ang nodded to indicate that he was aware of the information.
"Wait, where's Charlotte? Why isn't she here?" Boudica suddenly realized that Charlotte and the others hadn't been seen even after everyone was seated, so she quickly asked.
"She's dead," Li Ang replied.
A deathly silence fell around the round table.
"How is this possible?!" Boudica gritted her teeth and said, "Three dead bodies in one night... How is this possible?!"
"That's impossible," Fibel picked up the conversation, "but what if there's more than one witch?" She then turned her gaze to Leon.
"I remember your identity card also allowed you to choose to kill intentionally. So, did you kill Charlotte and Eloi?"
As Fibel finished speaking, everyone turned their attention to Li Ang.
"I didn't kill them," Li Ang shook his head, giving his answer.
Hearing him say that, Faybel frowned.
If Li Ang didn't kill anyone last night, does that mean all three of them were killed by the witch? But how could that be!?
