The detective is dead, I did it.

Chapter 115 Welcome Chapter

Chapter 115 Welcome Back

Li Ang stared at the sweet curve of Charlotte's lips. She was clearly smiling, but her eyes were as empty as two unfocused glass beads.

He suddenly realized a fact he had previously overlooked: this usually calm and collected detective actually had the potential to be a yandere.

Is there a possibility that I might be dismembered and have my head delivered to Sherry?

The main thing is that when the other person smiles, the curve of the corners of their mouth is so precise that it sends chills down your spine.

It's as if someone has suppressed all their emotions under that thin smile, waiting for a crack to quietly spread so that everything inside will spill out.

"Um—if you're planning to hunt me down, could you let me know in advance?" Li Ang spoke first, his tone sounding very relaxed. "So I can buy some insurance beforehand."

Charlotte's smile remained unchanged, only her eyes narrowed slightly.

"Insurance?"

"It's the kind of thing—if I accidentally die, they'll give me a huge sum of money in compensation."

"I know what insurance is," Charlotte said calmly, without any inflection. "But I'm serious."

"I'm serious," Li Ang said casually, adding, "After all, who knows if the conditions for dissolving the contract might be the death of one of the parties?"

He really just said it casually.

He didn't take those words too seriously when he said them. After all, when he made that vow, he hadn't thought about it deeply at all; who could have predicted that Charlotte would possess such an ability?

The resurrection of the dead and vows of oath—any one of these is a heavyweight proposition, but now, they're all piled on her alone.

Li Ang even began to suspect that this detective might be hiding something even more significant that she hadn't yet revealed.

Charlotte's smile cracked slightly at Li Ang's words, and an expression of disbelief appeared in her eyes.

How could this man know that the only condition for the contract to be terminated is the death of one of the parties?

Is it just a guess?

Or did he discover some clues somewhere?

She stared at Li Ang for a few seconds, the sweet smile on her lips gradually fading away, eventually returning to her usual indifferent expression.

"Don't worry." She turned and walked towards the door. "You won't die. I don't want you to die so easily."

She stopped at the door and turned to the side.

The afternoon sun shone on her long white hair, casting a light golden halo.

Those jewel-like blue eyes appeared exceptionally deep in the backlight, like a bottomless lake reflecting his image and holding within them things she would never willingly utter.

"Let's go. We still have a lot to do." She paused, as if searching her memory, "By the way, who died last night?"

Charlotte's memory was still stuck last night, after she and Leon finished making their plans. She then chose to commit suicide to reset her state, thereby getting rid of the game's influence and regaining her memory.

She had no idea that the game was over.

"It's over." Li Ang walked to her side. "In a few more minutes, we'll be back to reality."

"You found the witch?" Charlotte's eyes widened slightly. "Is it Lilith? Emily? Or Isabella?"

In her view, these three were the most suspicious, followed by Fibel and Boudica. As for the remaining individuals, while not entirely without suspicion, they were very unlikely to be involved.

"It's Emily," Leon said. "Lilith was killed by her last night. I used Boudica and the others' abilities to narrow down the search area and finally pinpointed her."

He briefly recounted what had happened, including details of Emily's attempt to secretly vote for him during the voting process.

"She originally planned to secretly hang the ticket on my head, but she didn't expect that I had already persuaded Helena. Her plan failed, and she had no choice but to end the game herself. She's probably already out of the game space now."

Charlotte listened quietly, remained silent for a moment, and then nodded.

"I see. If it's her, then it makes sense."

From the very beginning, Emily presented herself as weak, pitiful, and helpless, and it was precisely this posture that made it difficult for people to truly look at her with suspicion.

This kind of disguise is more effective than any clever lie.

"Well done."

Li Ang was slightly taken aback and subconsciously met her gaze.

Are you praising me?

"Just stating the facts." Charlotte looked away, her long white hair swaying gently as she turned her head. "A newcomer, with no experience, no intelligence, no support, found the witch entirely through his own reasoning, and even persuaded the counter to help him cheat. That's quite an achievement."

She paused, her tone unusually serious and smug.

"I knew I hadn't misjudged him."

Li Ang looked at her, somewhat surprised. Charlotte's expression was too serious, so serious that he couldn't help but want to break the silence.

He then curled the corners of his mouth into a smile, his tone tinged with a hint of teasing: "It's not that there was absolutely no support. It's mainly because my assistant did a good job that I was able to go find the witch with peace of mind."

Charlotte nodded subconsciously.

She clearly appreciated the compliment.

Then her brain caught up with her actions, and she froze on the spot as if a pause button had been pressed. In just one second, the expression on her face made a sharp turn from "natural satisfaction" to "furious embarrassment".

"Don't mention that again!"

She glared at him fiercely, a dangerous glint in her eyes.

"Never mention Jon H. Charlotte again! Never mention me when I had amnesia again! Never mention me again!"

She clenched her teeth, as if desperately trying to banish certain images from her mind.

Li Ang wisely shut his mouth, but the slight curve at the corner of his mouth that he hadn't managed to suppress completely betrayed him.

Charlotte clenched and unclenched her fist repeatedly. In the end, she didn't throw the punch.

"—Let's go." She tried to make her voice sound normal. "There are still many things to take care of."

She turned and walked ahead, her back straight and her steps composed, as if the person who had almost lost his composure just moments before had nothing to do with her.

Li Ang followed her out of the cell.

In the corridor, sunlight streamed down from the high windows, spreading bright, warm-colored patches of light across the stone floor.

Charlotte walked ahead, her steps steady, each one landing precisely on the edge of the dappled sunlight. But Leon noticed that the tips of her ears were slightly red.

"Charlotte," he said.

The other person stopped but didn't turn around.

"What?"

Welcome back.

Charlotte's shoulders tensed slightly for a moment, then slowly relaxed. She didn't answer, but continued walking forward, though her pace slowed slightly, as if waiting for someone to catch up.
