Chapter 121 The Witch Who Wants to Curse
"punish."
Helena turned to look at her.
"I made a mistake in the Witch's Guild," Ino continued. "You don't need to know the details, and you're not worthy to know. In short, the guild master's punishment for me is to play the witch in that game. If I can kill all the detectives, I can atone for my mistake and have my past transgressions forgiven."
Helena listened quietly, then muttered something to herself.
"You didn't come in willingly."
"Nonsense." Ino's voice finally carried a hint of grievance and annoyance. "Who wants to go into that kind of hellish game? Locked up with a bunch of detectives, having to act out a whole charade on tenterhooks!" Her voice suddenly rose a few octaves. "The worst part is, these guys are incredibly lucky!"
Helena instinctively leaned back to avoid being sprayed with saliva when the guy tilted his head back.
Actually, it's quite easy for the witch faction to win in the Witch Trial game. Witches not only have dual identity cards, but also the ability to act at night, so they can easily win in most situations.
However, Ino never expected that this group of people would be this lucky.
In this game, most of the randomly distributed identity cards, which are entirely based on luck, have useless abilities, with only a small number possessing key abilities.
Aside from a few useless cards, almost all of the detectives' identity cards were key cards, as if someone had deliberately given the best cards to the other side.
Miss Truth, Iron Shield Guardian, Mirror Image—all the abilities that could turn the tide in the witch's game were obtained by that group of detectives.
These identification tags allow them to easily narrow down the scope, eliminate suspects, and lock onto targets, stepping on the most precise points at every step.
"That guy named Li Ang, his memory wasn't distorted at all, and he even seems to know the rules of this game very well! What else could this be but fate?"
Ino grew angrier as she spoke, and her bound body shook violently a few times, making the ropes creak.
"You know what?" She suddenly laughed, a laugh tinged with barely suppressed annoyance, "When everyone was showing their ID cards, I wanted to swear."
What is my ability? It's a one-time use ability that can prevent two people from using their abilities at night.
Just once. Once it's used up, it's useless. But what about the other people's abilities? They're all great cards that can be used repeatedly and combined with each other.
She couldn't get a chance to use her skills; she was completely dominated from start to finish.
Not to mention Li Ang's most important identity, the Illusory Witch.
The fake witch's identity card was obtained by the only person in the entire game whose memory was not affected. She immediately suspected that her guild leader was deliberately targeting her and did not want her to win at all.
She took a deep breath, her chest heaving violently, clearly these words had been bottled up inside her for far too long.
Seeing the other person getting more and more agitated and their face growing increasingly pale, Helena bit her lower lip, using all her self-control to keep from laughing out loud.
Her lips did twitch slightly, but she quickly suppressed it and coughed to cover it up.
Thankfully, I didn't become a witch.
The thought of how Ino had managed to hold on for the entire game against such a formidable opponent made Helena's feelings suddenly become somewhat complicated.
That feeling was somewhere between guilt and schadenfreude.
She barely managed to suppress her laughter, but the unruly curve of her lips still secretly curled up.
"What are you laughing at?!" Ino noticed.
"No, no." Helena quickly adjusted her expression, cleared her throat as if to be very serious, and put on a serious face again.
Ino snorted, turned her head away, and ignored her.
The room fell silent again.
Looking at the other person's back, bound into a cocoon, Helena suddenly had some thoughts she had never had before.
"Feed".
"What?" Ino's voice was weak and listless.
"Do you want to leave the Witch's Guild like I have?"
Ino's eyes widened suddenly.
But she didn't immediately yell back; she just glared at her.
That silence itself is a profound answer.
Meanwhile, on the other side...
Li Ang followed Lina through the intricate streets of London, heading towards the headquarters of the Detective Guild.
Li Ang noticed these people.
The badges on their uniforms are all different; some come from Birmingham, some from Manchester, and some even from as far away as Edinburgh.
These people were clearly not local London detectives.
As if sensing his confusion, Lina, who was walking ahead, took the initiative to explain without stopping.
"These are support personnel transferred from other city detective association branches. According to the organization, they, like you, belong to the armed detective unit."
She stopped there and didn't say anything more.
But Li Ang understood her unspoken meaning.
These people arrived to deal with the crisis created by the Witch Society, and now that the incident has come to an end, they should pack their bags and return to their respective cities.
The crisis came suddenly and ended just as quickly, so quickly that those who had traveled thousands of miles to London had to return home before they could even fully adjust to the city.
However, this is probably good news for them: a task that doesn't require them to actually take action is always better than one that requires them to risk their lives.
Li Ang nodded thoughtfully.
"We've arrived. This is the headquarters of the Detective Association."
Lina stopped Li Ang in front of a luxurious building and led him straight through the headquarters lobby.
Several office workers who were organizing documents saw Lina pass by and respectfully bowed their heads. Lina nodded slightly in return, but did not stop walking at all.
She led Li Ang up the spiral staircase, floor after floor, until they reached the top of the entire building.
At the end of the corridor was a heavy door, without any markings except for a gold association emblem embedded in the center, simple and unadorned.
"You can go in by yourself." Lina stopped at the door, turned to look at Li Ang, and said, "The president is already waiting for you."
The news from the courtroom had already reached Chairman Irene Adler through special means.
This included all the roles Li Ang played in the game, and also his current journey here. Lina didn't say much about these things, but simply stood by the door and nodded slightly to him.
Li Ang pushed open the door and went inside.
The room was large but very simple, without much glittering decoration. There was only a large desk and a round table in the center of the room, with rows of bookshelves against the wall and a floor-to-ceiling window facing him.
Morning light streamed in through the window, casting a soft, grayish-white filter over everything in the room.
Behind that large oak desk sat a woman with silver-gray hair.
Eileen Adler.
The president of the Detective Association. Also the strongest detective in the world.
