Mythical Card Maker: Starting with the Mountain Spirit

Chapter 86 Ranked Match Begins

While the three were chatting, they arrived at a high-end private restaurant with an antique charm.

Most of the diners in the restaurant were students of similar age to Lin Mo and his two companions.

The group chatted in hushed tones, and the conversation almost always revolved around the four universities and the freshman ranking competition.

Lin Mo and his two companions found an empty table and sat down one by one.

After ordering, Yang Shuang'er picked up her teacup, took a sip, and continued her previous topic: "I heard that tomorrow's freshman ranking competition will adopt a mixed format of three systems: round-robin, double-elimination, and single-elimination, to determine the ranking of all freshmen."

"Is it that complicated?"

Lin Mo frowned slightly.

"It has to be complex, since it determines the allocation of resources for the new students over the next year; being meticulous is a good thing!"

Yang Xueer smiled.

The three of them ate and chatted, and time passed quickly.

After the dinner, Lin Mo returned to his hotel room, washed up, and then resumed his meditation.

Time passed slowly, and in the blink of an eye, it was time for the new students of Yudu Tianfu to start school.

Yunhai City was exceptionally lively that day.

Various vehicles sped along the streets, a constant stream of people, and trainees were everywhere.

Lin Mo and his two companions left the hotel and headed straight for Baiyu Square.

By this time, Baiyu Square was already filled with students waiting for the airship.

Upon arriving at the place, Lin Mo saw someone waving at him. Looking closely, he recognized Fang Chuchu.

Fang Chuchu was dressed in a black outfit today, which perfectly accentuated her graceful figure. Paired with a high ponytail, she exuded a heroic and dashing air.

Beside her was another girl dressed in a black, tight-fitting outfit.

She was shorter than Fang Chuchu, and although they looked somewhat alike, she was far less attractive.

"Sister Chuchu!"

Lin Mo walked over and greeted her.

"This is my cousin, Xu Wanying!"

"These are Lin Mo, Yang Shuang'er, and Yang Xue'er!"

Fang Chuchu gave a brief introduction, and the five of them quickly became acquainted.

After a brief conversation, the airship bound for the four universities slowly landed on White Jade Square.

Xu Wanying waved to the others and turned to walk towards the flying boat engraved with "Shigu Academy".

Lin Mo and the others then walked towards the airship bearing the words "Imperial Capital Heavenly Palace".

A few minutes later, the airship slowly landed on the landing platform.

With a loud engine roar, the cabin shook violently, and the doors slowly opened to the sides, allowing the trainees to file out in a long line.

Lin Mo and his three companions followed the instructions on their admission notices to the freshman registration area.

The so-called registration area for new students is the Hanyuan Hall where Lin Mo and his classmates took their exams.

However, it is no longer a side hall as before, but in the main hall.

Lin Mo and his group climbed the white marble steps, passed through the bronze gate, and soon arrived at a spacious hall.

Inside the hall were rows of long jade tables, behind which sat a senior student responsible for registering new students.

Lin Mo and the others arrived at an empty long jade table and handed over their relevant credentials. After the female student confirmed that everything was correct, she registered their identity information and then handed them several black cards.

This is the entry card for this freshman ranking competition.

The front has the candidate number printed on it, and the back has the seat number.

After receiving their competition cards, the group headed towards the assessment hall behind Hanyuan Hall.

The examination hall is extremely wide, oval in shape, with an openwork top and rows of viewing platforms around it, extending upwards in a stepped manner.

When Lin Mo and his group arrived at the assessment hall, the surrounding stands were almost all occupied.

The venue not only housed this year's freshmen, but also many alumni.

The graduation requirements of the four universities are extremely high, requiring students to reach at least the level of a Morning Star Card Maker.

Therefore, over the years, the group of previous graduates remains quite large.

In addition, leaders from the university, prominent families in Yunhai City, the Card Master Alliance, the Card Makers Association, the Municipal Public Security Bureau, and other forces also sent people to attend the ceremony.

Lin Mo glanced at the back of his entry card, found his seat, and sat down.

Since the four of them registered together, their seats were next to each other.

The new students' seats were very close to the front, almost right next to the combat platform.

This is mainly to make it easier for them to come and go.

As time went by, more and more people entered the examination hall. Finally, accompanied by a clear and melodious bell ringing throughout the hall, a group of people slowly appeared on the square viewing platform in front.

"That's Vice Dean Lu Yu. He's hosting this freshman ranking competition. The people next to him are the academy's mentors. After the freshman ranking competition, each freshman will have to choose their own mentor."

Yang Xue'er pointed to the young man in the very center, who was wearing a moon-white robe, had a handsome face, eyes like stars, and a gentle and refined demeanor, and said in a low voice.

"So young?"

Lin Mo looked surprised.

The man in front of me looked to be only in his thirties, yet he was already the vice dean.

It should be noted that the vice dean of Yudu Tianfu must at least be a Radiant Moon Card Maker.

"No wonder it's one of the four top universities!"

Lin Mo murmured to himself, a longing igniting in his eyes.

He had just sensed the aura emanating from the young man, and it was as if he were looking at a vast, unfathomable ocean.

"Dear new students, on behalf of Yudu Tianfu, I welcome you to this oldest academy."

Next, the freshman ranking competition will be held. If the district exam will determine whether you can step into the gates of Yudu Tianfu, then this ranking competition will determine your access to resources at the academy in the coming year.

So, fellow freshmen, give it your all and go all out!

As soon as Vice Dean Lu Yu finished speaking, the entire assessment hall erupted in noise.

Immediately afterwards, another loud bell rang.

Several mentors standing next to Vice Dean Lu Yu stepped forward, flipped their wrists, and a small, square box appeared in their palms.

"This freshman ranking competition will adopt a mixed format of various competitions. Sixty freshmen and forty exempted candidates will be divided into ten groups. Members in each group will compete in a round-robin format. Winning a game earns two points, a draw earns one point, and losing a game earns zero points. This year's top ten talents of Tianfu will be the seeded players in each group and will not meet in advance!"

The top four with the highest scores in each group advance to the next round. Forty people will compete in a double-elimination tournament to determine the top ten, and then ten people will compete in a single-elimination tournament to determine the final ranking of all new students!

Without further ado, the freshman ranking competition officially begins!

As soon as he finished speaking, the entire venue erupted in cheers.

Amidst the cheers of all the students, the mentors began drawing lots.

Lin Mo checked his race number: 36. Fang Chuchu's was 37, Yang Shuang'er's was 38, and Yang Xue'er's was 39.

"Group One, #34 vs. #88!"

"Group Two, #76 vs. #11!"

"Group 3, #4 vs. #9!"

As the instructor finished speaking, ten huge circular platforms suddenly appeared on the battle platform of the assessment hall, numbered one to ten from left to right. The freshmen whose names were called stepped forward and stood in their respective circular platforms.

A battle was about to break out.
