Spring Breeze Twenty Years
Chapter 1177 Good Fortune Arrives at the Door
Chapter 1177 Good Fortune Arrives at the Door (Give +10 to Gentle and Refined)
January 30th, 1995, Monday, the 30th day of the twelfth lunar month, the last day of the Year of the Dog.
The weather was clear and the sky was blue. If you ignored the howling north wind, it would be a pretty good day.
The air was filled with the scent of the New Year, even the snow looked exceptionally glistening, and the streets and alleys were dotted with red firecracker debris. Everyone's face was beaming with joy.
"Daddy, it's crooked. Just a little bit here, over here. Over here, Daddy."
The little girl wore a deer tail hairstyle today, which would be called a bun in later generations. She was wearing a bright red cotton-padded jacket, red high-top cotton shoes, and black lantern pants. Her big eyes were bright and sparkling, and her eyebrows and eyes had a mischievous smile. She was gesturing and jumping around, giving directions.
"Honey, you have to tell me left or right. Which side is this? I can't see you."
The little girl held out both hands to distinguish, then raised her right hand high: "To the right, a little to the right."
The big yellow dog stood beside the girl, wagging its tail, waiting for its little master to pet it.
Dogs love children very much. In front of children, they are more like a caring elder, showing concern and love without any temper.
"Dad, the 'Fu' character is upside down! It's pasted upside down. You're such an idiot, you don't even recognize the 'Fu' character! The 'tian' character should be at the bottom."
"Woof." "Big Yellow knows."
Chen Hui squatted down next to the girl, carrying a bucket of paste: "This is how you put up the 'Fu' character for the New Year, understand?"
Why?
"Say it, 'Good fortune has arrived.' Good fortune has come to our home. This is good fortune arriving at our door."
"Oh. Well, the sign at the main entrance isn't upside down, what should we do?"
"The sign at the main entrance shouldn't be upside down; it's for others to see, it's called 'Welcoming Fortune at the Gate.'"
Chen Xiao came out carrying Xiao Xiao Hui, who was wrapped up tightly and unable to move: "Check the time, don't be late."
Chen Hui glanced at his watch: "It's early, keep an eye on it."
Xiao Wei got off the stool, clapped his hands, and said, "Let's go, it's better to wait there a little longer than to be late. Is everything ready?"
Chen Hui said, "There's no need to bring anything. It's not like we're not coming back. We can buy whatever we need there. I bet my mom already bought a ton of stuff."
After saying hello to Xiaowei's mother, Aunt Wang, Xiaowei, along with Beibei, and Chen Hui and Chen Xiao carrying Xiaoxiaohui, got into the car and headed straight for Taoxian.
The streets were deserted, with few cars and people; everyone was busy preparing delicious food for the New Year.
Houses along the roadside were adorned with bright red Spring Festival couplets, and most had hung red lanterns. Children, wearing cotton hats with upturned wings, chattered and played firecrackers in the street, their breath steaming in the air. The street vendors that were everywhere just a few days ago had vanished.
All the state-owned shopping malls and businesses have closed down; only small, privately owned shops are still open.
"Dad, where are we going?"
"Sending Mr. and Mrs. Chen off to catch their flight. It's almost Chinese New Year, and Xiao Xiao Hui needs to go visit his grandparents."
"Oh. Then, are you going back?"
"I'll go back after the New Year when the weather gets warmer."
"So, are you going?"
"I'm not going. I'll stay home with Beibei."
Beibei nodded, turned to look at Xiaoxiaohui outside the window, and waved, "Goodbye, little brother."
Xiao Wei reached out and patted Bei Bei's head: "We're not there yet, you said it's too early."
Beibei didn't say anything. Chen Xiao said, "Beibei's biological mother and grandmother are coming today, right? Why are they so late?"
Xiaowei said, "I'm back at work, I just got a day off yesterday. Beibei, shall we go to the station to pick up Mom and Grandma together later?"
Beibei nodded: "Yes."
After crossing the Hun River, we entered a snow-covered plain. The vast land stretched as far as the eye could see, and the pale sun peeked out from behind the snow and mist.
There were hardly any cars outside the airport, and not many people inside either. A few people went over to get their tickets and went into the waiting hall.
Chen Xiao removed some of the weapons from Xiao Xiao Hui's body and put them in Chen Hui's hand. He then put Xiao Xiao Hui on the ground. Xiao Xiao Hui shook his head, went over and took Bei Bei's hand. The two little siblings walked towards the store in the empty hall.
Security checks and boarding procedures were much simpler back then compared to later times; you could even bring lighters, matches, drinks, and food on board.
After seeing the family of three off at the boarding gate, Xiaowei hugged Beibei and said goodbye to Chen Hui and his family. Watching them go inside and disappear from sight, Xiaowei turned around and walked back, only to find Beibei leaning against him, motionless. He lifted the little one up halfway and saw that the little girl was already in tears.
Xiao Wei took out a handkerchief and wiped the girl's face: "What's wrong?"
Beibei wrapped her arms around Xiaowei's neck and said, "No, little brother, let's go."
Xiao Wei said, "We're coming back, so we can't stop my little brother from seeing his grandparents, right? Don't you miss them when you can't see them?"
Beibei nodded and nestled on Xiaowei's shoulder without making a sound.
"Mommy and Grandma will be here soon. Are you going to go pick up Mommy looking like a little cat with a dirty face?"
Beibei lowered her head shyly and twisted her body slightly. Xiaowei wiped her face clean, waited in the airport for a while until her face was almost dry, then came out and ran towards the car: "Run, run! If you're too slow, the wind will bite Beibei's face. It bites crying children."
Beibei covered her face with her little hands: "Quick, run!"
After getting in the car, starting the engine and turning on the heater, Xiao Wei checked the time, did some mental calculations, and then turned the steering wheel towards the long-distance bus station.
The long-distance bus station is located right here in the square of Fengtian Railway Station.
There were far fewer people in the square than usual, but the shops were still open, and even the information desks of the state-run guesthouses and hotels were open.
Several unlicensed taxi drivers huddled in a sheltered spot, smoking and observing the hurried travelers passing by.
Two policemen and two armed policemen walked past the car. Patrols at the station have been increased during the Spring Festival, a peak time for theft and robbery.
"Gun." Beibei, who hadn't spoken for a while, leaned against the car window and pointed outside with her little finger: "To shoot bad guys."
"Yes," Xiaowei patted Beibei's head, "the police catch bad guys, the army fights bad guys, if you get into any trouble anywhere, go find them."
Beibei brushed her hair back from her forehead with both hands: "Where's Mommy?"
Xiao Wei said, "We're not there yet, we'll be there soon."
As they talked, twenty minutes passed, and little Beibei perked up again: "Daddy, um, um, can I eat roasted sweet potato? Is it delicious?"
"It doesn't taste good."
"Hehe, Daddy, you're lying, it's delicious. It's sweet."
A bus pulled up, and Xiaowei looked over and said to Beibei, "Mommy's here. Shall we get off or wait here?"
Beibei turned her head and looked around: "Where?"
Xiao Wei pointed to the bus from Beixi, and Bei Bei went to pull the handle to open the door.
Xiao Wei got off the bus, turned to the other side, picked up Bei Bei, and the two walked back towards the bus.
There weren't many people on the bus. It's estimated that buses, trains, and planes were all operating at a loss during the Spring Festival period, which is very different from later times.
Wang Guifang, Beibei's maternal grandmother, and her fourth uncle and aunt got out of the car.
My fourth uncle's family has already moved here, but they're not staying here this year. They need someone to help with the harvesting over there – summer for vegetables, autumn for mountain produce, and winter for pigs, chickens, ducks, and goose eggs. However, they'll basically be staying here after the New Year; the company's framework has already been set up over there.
"Mom!" Beibei broke free from Xiaowei and ran over. "Grandma!"
