Spring Breeze Twenty Years

Chapter 329 I know you can protect me

Chapter 329 I know you can protect me

Upon arriving at the guesthouse, Brother Liu drove directly into the backyard. The group got out of the car and exchanged a few more polite words with Brother Liu. Brother Liu recognized Xiao Wei's car and then went back to his workplace. Xiao Wei and the others went upstairs to their rooms.

Chen Hui went upstairs and opened the door. He hadn't said a word since Brother Liu left. After sitting down inside, Chen Hui took out a cigarette and silently lit one.

Xiao Hong sensed something was wrong, glanced at Xiao Wei, and gestured to Chen Hui with her eyes. Xiao Wei shook his head.

Xiao Hong stopped worrying about it and sat down next to Xiao Wei, saying, "Don't move, let me see where they've been hit."

Xiao Wei said, "It's nothing. I got hit a few times in the face, and I think I got hit a few times on my body too, but it doesn't hurt anymore."

Xiao Hong insisted. The right side of Xiao Wei's face was already bruised. His nose was fine, but his eye socket was a little swollen from being rubbed. She got a hot towel and wiped Xiao Wei's face to warm it up, then pulled up Xiao Wei's clothes to take a look.

There was a bruise on my back and side where I was kicked, but I was fine elsewhere.

Xiao Hong pouted and touched the large bruise on Xiao Wei's back, tears streaming down her face.

Xiao Wei wiped his face, tossed the towel to Chen Hui, and pulled his clothes up, saying, "Why are you crying? It's alright, you didn't lose anything. Xiao Hui, you should wash your face too, there's still blood on it. Your face will be bruised tomorrow too."

Chen Hui put down his cigarette and washed his face in the basin.

Chen Xiao, who had been sitting to the side watching, said to Chen Hui in a conciliatory tone, "Xiao Hui, I was wrong. Don't be angry with me, okay?"

Chen Hui didn't say a word or look at Chen Xiao. He wiped his face, sat down, picked up a cigarette butt, took a few more puffs, stubbed it out in the ashtray, and said to Xiao Wei, "You two rest, I'm going back to lie down for a while." He then went back to his room, and Chen Xiao obediently followed him.

Chen Hui and Chen Xiao left the house. Xiao Hong went over, closed and locked the door, then sat down next to Xiao Wei and said, "Chen Xiao's personality is really... sigh."

Xiao Wei said, "Alright, stop talking. Chen Hui is really angry. Listen to this, Chen Xiao is pregnant, don't start arguing."

Xiao Hong pouted and said, "Let her argue, we should give her a beating, she's such a troublemaker."

Xiao Wei turned to look at Xiao Hong and said, "What nonsense are you talking about? She's pregnant."

Xiao Hong's eyes reddened again. She said, "It's really not worth getting beaten up like this. I told her to ignore these people, but she kept talking to them. How old is she? She's two years older than me, but all she does is act spoiled and nothing else. If we didn't have someone we know, we would have been in trouble today. I don't know what happened, but the police station knows them too. Do you think they'd let us off easy?"

Xiao Wei laughed and said, "Silly boy, if I didn't have anyone else, would I have dared to fight back? It's only about eighty yuan. I only went against Xiao Hui because I knew he could find someone. Actually, it's my fault. I was just angry at the time. But now that I think about it, what's eighty yuan? I can just find someone to teach them a lesson later. I was wrong too. I definitely won't do anything like this again. I'm scared now. What if I had hurt you?"

Xiao Wei reached out and hugged Xiao Hong. He was speaking from the heart. He was indeed a little scared at the time. He hadn’t thought much about it when he was angry. Now he was thinking about what would have happened if Xiao Hong had been beaten up.

Xiao Hong reached out and hugged Xiao Wei's neck, saying, "I'm not afraid, I know you can protect me." She looked at Xiao Wei carefully, then tilted her head back and offered her lips. After kissing for a while, Xiao Wei gently pulled away and said, "No, this side of my face hurts a bit, let me rest for a while." Xiao Hong laughed and punched Xiao Wei's chest a few times.

After a sweet moment, Xiao Hong fell asleep in Xiao Wei's arms, sleeping soundly and peacefully. She had been quite frightened earlier that day. Xiao Wei gently placed Xiao Hong on the pillow and covered her with a blanket. He then got out of bed, wincing in pain. After all, he was made of flesh and blood; how could he not feel pain after being hit? Half of his face was numb, and his ribs were throbbing with pain.

After applying a hot towel for a while and moving around a bit, I felt much lighter. I took off my coat, gently got into bed, and lay down next to Xiaohong. I fell asleep in no time.

Xiao Wei slept soundly, and when he opened his eyes again it was already past five o'clock the next morning. He woke up hungry, as none of them had eaten dinner the night before. Xiao Wei quietly got up, dressed, wiped his face with a hot towel, and ran outside to find something to eat without even brushing his teeth, because he was just too hungry to bear it any longer.

Baked flatbread and seaweed soup. After a night of rest, the muscles in his face ached terribly with any movement. The first few bites of the flatbread were excruciating. Fortunately, after a few bites and moving around, the pain subsided. Half of his face felt numb, and Xiao Wei didn't even need to look in a mirror to know that it was swollen.

Five flatbreads and two bowls of soup filled his stomach. The sky was beginning to lighten, and the streets were getting busier with people and cars. The crowing of roosters could be heard from afar. After eating and drinking his fill, he went outside. The chilly air didn't feel so bad anymore. Carrying the packed oven-baked flatbreads, Xiao Wei stretched his body as he walked towards the guesthouse.

The oven-baked flatbread shop was located at the crossroads, about 200-300 meters from the guesthouse. Xiao Wei had only walked halfway when he saw Chen Hui walking towards him, his neck hunched and his breath steaming in the air. Chen Hui jogged a few steps over to Xiao Wei and said, "You woke up hungry too? Damn it, I'm starving! What did you buy? Oven-baked flatbread? Oven-baked flatbread, good, good." He reached into the bag, took two flatbreads, stacked them together, and took a bite.

Xiao Wei had no choice but to turn around and accompany Chen Hui, who was happily eating without caring about his greasy hands, back to the oven-baked pancake shop.

"Did you have a fight last night?" Xiao Wei asked.

Chen Hui shook his head and mumbled, "No, what's all the fuss about? I'm already scared. I'm just feeling a little uneasy."

Xiao Wei said, "Well, Chen Xiao isn't a bad person. He just hasn't experienced much, and his family spoiled him a bit growing up. He'll get better with time."

Chen Hui shook his head again, swallowed what was in his mouth, and said to Xiao Wei, "Actually, I'm extremely disappointed in her, so disappointed that I'm almost numb. We're married and about to have a child, so let's just leave it at that. From now on, no matter where I go out or what I do, I'm not taking her with me. You and Xiao Hong shouldn't try to persuade me; this is enough."

When they arrived at the bakery, Chen Hui ordered two bowls of egg drop soup, finished the pancakes Xiao Wei was holding, and ate two more. Then, the two of them, each carrying five more pancakes they had bought, walked back slowly while talking.

While picking his teeth, Chen Hui said, "I'm thinking about what kind of pancakes to offer in our shop. I think pancakes are delicious, and these days most people don't want to make them at home anymore. I just haven't decided what kind of pancakes to make yet."

Xiao Wei said, "That's fine. It's good to have more variety in staple foods. Restaurants these days don't pay much attention to this. They usually just serve rice and noodles. We need to make something different. I think if we're going to make pancakes, we should make the most common ones, like the ones we used to make at home: leavened flatbread, sugar pancakes. We have to make them taste like the old days. I think the more homely the food, the more wealthy people will like it."

Chen Hui said, "How about we get some pickled vegetables from the soy sauce jar? And some cornbread too?"

Xiao Wei said, "You know what, I think it actually works, but I just can't get it. Where do you get it? How do you pickle it yourself? You can't get that flavor."
