Chapter 649 Chen Hui's New Home
Chapter 649 Chen Hui's New Home
Xiaowei and Xiaohong stayed in Andong for three days, finished arranging what needed to be arranged, handed over the follow-up work to Bozi and Li Na, and returned to Fengtian.
The opening won't be that quick; recruitment, training, and other preparations will take at least a month.
The reason they're in such a hurry to return to Fengtian is because Miss Wang Xiaohong needs to go back to school for registration. Registration isn't the start of the semester; it involves paying some fees and participating in school activities, like welcoming new students, which require the cooperation of upperclassmen. Miss Wang is a sophomore now.
Before they could even settle in Fengtian, Chen Hui ran over and said, "Xiao Wei, I was just about to call you when you came back. Help me move tomorrow."
Xiao Wei was stunned for a moment before he reacted and asked, "It's all set up? Is it safe to move in? Shouldn't we let it air out for a few days?"
Chen Hui said, "We're not moving in right away. We'll get our things over there first, buy what we need, and then move in once everything's mostly set up inside and out. I've been going there every day for the past two days. Xiao Xiao said you should go check it out and help with the setup."
Xiao Wei nodded and said, "Okay, fine. It's not like we don't have a place to stay, why are you in such a hurry?"
Chen Hui said, "What the hell do you know? This is the first time in my life that I have something that is completely my own, understand? The house is mine, the home is mine, and so is my son."
Xiao Wei said, "That house is mine, isn't it?"
Chen Hui rolled up his sleeves, ready to pounce: "You think I won't beat you to death?"
Xiao Wei shook his head: "I don't believe you, you can't beat me."
Xia Maosheng walked over from the stairwell, shaking his car keys, and leaned against the doorframe, asking, "Hey? What are you guys up to? Chen Hui, are you planning to practice with Xiao Wei?"
Xiao Wei turned to look at the door: "Why are you back so early?"
Xia Maosheng came in, pulled up a chair, and sat down, saying, "Go down and check, then come back. What are you guys up to?"
Xiao Wei said, "He's in a hurry to move and is forcing me to help him move tomorrow."
Xia Maosheng said to Chen Hui, "Shouldn't we let it air out a bit? Won't it get damp?"
Chen Hui said, "I asked Engineer Wang, and he said there's no problem. The air in Northeast China is dry, so opening the door more often will solve the problem."
Xia Maosheng said, "Then let's move! Should we move things here too?"
Xiao Wei said, "We can't move the office yet. They're pouring concrete over there, and the third floor is too close to the construction site. It's unsafe with all the people and vehicles coming and going."
Xia Maosheng said, "Then I won't move yet. I'll stay here and wait for the main structure to be built. Are you moving now?" He turned to ask Chen Hui.
Chen Hui said, "I'm not moving right away. I need to buy things first, like furniture, decorations, and appliances. I asked him to help me set things up tomorrow and see what I need to buy. I'll move in once everything is ready."
Xia Maosheng asked Xiao Wei, "What did you say that agitated him?"
Xiao Wei laughed and said, "He shamelessly claimed that the house was his, but I just emphasized to him that it was my house. It's registered in my name."
Xia Maosheng said, "Yes, that's right."
Chen Hui pointed at Xiao Wei with his hand in a sword gesture, about to say something, when Xiao Hui suddenly cried out from the other room. The guy turned around and rushed over: "Baby, what's wrong? Daddy's here."
Xia Maosheng said with a smile, "This kid seems pretty happy now, it makes me want to have a baby soon too."
Xiao Wei said, "Chen Hui is not suitable to take care of children. He'll spoil that kid. I need to talk to Uncle Chen about this."
Geng Hui poked her head out from the other door: "Xia, I'm hungry."
Xia Maosheng jumped up and ran over: "What do you want to eat?"
Xiao Wei smiled and continued writing in his notebook. What a wonderful day.
……
After four days of busy work, Chen Hui's new home was finally filled up temporarily.
It's said to be temporary because there are too many rooms; there are two buildings standing there. But it doesn't matter. The main building only needs to be maintained in three bedrooms, and the annex is for Xia Maosheng and Xiaowei's family, which needs five bedrooms. The rest can be left empty. Chen Hui's family has a bit of a special situation, so they rarely have guests, and there are basically no people who can stay overnight. The extra bedroom is prepared for Xiaoxiao's mother.
This is one of the advantages of being an only child; there are fewer problems. Especially in Chen Hui's family, there has been only one son for three generations, and his grandparents have passed away.
"This wood is hard, will it work?" Chen Hui asked Xiao Wei, squatting in the corner.
Xiao Wei said, "It'll work. Besides, it's embedded in the corner, so it won't hit anything. Hurry up and stretch the blanket; this is useless." He and Xia Maosheng were working hard to flatten a new, thick blanket, while Lao Xu held tools to hold it in place.
This is in the main building of Chen Huixin's house, in the room next to the master bedroom on the second floor.
Several people were busy setting up an activity room for Xiao Xiao Hui, covering the walls entirely with wool blankets.
The room was already piled high with all sorts of toys and dolls. Old Chen, Chen Hui's mother, Chen Xiao's parents, Chen Xiao's brother Chen Peng, Xiao Wei and Xiao Hong, Xia Maosheng and Geng Hui, Uncle Wang and Aunt Wang—everyone these days, whenever they see a fun toy or a pretty doll outside, they instinctively buy it. Luckily, the toy market isn't that developed yet, otherwise there would probably be even more.
Building blocks, toy cars, toy trains and airplanes, Rubik's Cubes, foreign dolls, plush toys, spinning music boxes, rattles, tambourines, toy guns, water guns—you could practically open a toy store!
There are also all kinds of little clothes, pants, skirts, shoes, leather shoes, cloth shoes. A pair of high-top pigskin shoes actually costs ninety yuan. It seems that people in this era have realized that making money should start from childhood.
The wool blanket was secured to the wall with cork strips, and Lao Xu checked it several times to make sure it was secure. The group sat down on the floor to rest, and Xiao Wei turned his head and saw Chen Hui unpacking toy boxes.
"Those are for first-year students, why are you dismantling it now?"
Chen Hui didn't even look up: "Let me see how to play. I didn't have any when I was a kid."
The group was speechless. Xia Maosheng said, "We bought too many. Some of them will only be playable when they're older. There will definitely be better ones by then." He had contributed the most these past few days because he was always driving around the city for work.
The phone Chen Hui had placed on the floor rang. Xia Maosheng bent down to pick it up and answered, "Hey? Oh, oh, it's here? Coming right away." He put down the phone, stood up, and said, "Xiao Hui, stop playing around, the appliances are here."
Chen Hui reluctantly put down the toy car, and the group went downstairs to change their shoes and head to the front gate.
Two small blue vans were parked at the entrance, with several delivery workers standing beside them, the purchased appliances stacked on top. These days, there's no such thing as a free delivery service; it depends on who's buying. The appliances were arranged by Chen Peng through a friend, all imported goods.
They directed the delivery and installation staff to place the appliances in their positions and move the bedding from the truck to the living room.
Television, refrigerator, freezer, washing machine, electric fan, VCR, DVD player, stereo, table lamp. Air conditioning is not common in Northeast China, so it's unnecessary.
These days, you can't just buy a TV and plug it in to watch it; you have to erect an antenna on the roof, one antenna for each TV. Luckily, when the building was constructed, Engineer Wang had already set up the antenna poles, so all I had to do was fix the antennas on them and adjust their positions.
After fiddling with it for over an hour and finally getting the antenna working, Xiaowei gave each of them a pack of cigarettes to send them on their way.
Chen Hui slumped onto the sofa: "Finally, I can move!"
