Chapter 127: The Superman Haters Can No Longer Hide Themselves (Bonus Chapter)

The next day.

Metropolis, Lexcorp.

The Lexco Tower, standing in the heart of the metropolis, is a black building with a futuristic design and the words "LEXCORP" printed in gold on its facade.

Lois, who had successfully secured a meeting appointment with Lex Luthor, was currently taking the elevator up with Langdon to the weapons testing area where Luthor was located.

To avoid causing any unnecessary misunderstandings for Luther, only Louise and Langdon came together this time to see him.

Clark reportedly injured his arm after being rescued by Superman last night and went to the hospital on his own, so he hasn't been seen since and will unfortunately be absent today as well.

As for Superman and Wonder Woman—

Regardless of what Luthor thinks of Wonder Woman, if she saw Superman dare to step into this building, she would probably ignore everyone else and only see the evil Kryptonian (in her eyes), then pull out the Kryptonite she had painstakingly acquired for so long — cough cough, the ending is predictable.

So the only option was for Louise to bring Langdon over, wait for the clues from Luther, and then go back to inform the two of them.

With a "ding," the elevator arrived at the floor where the weapons testing area was located.

Almost the instant they stepped onto the floor, a continuous barrage of bombing sounds assaulted their ears: "Boom—Boom—"

Louise looked in the direction of the sound and, through a reinforced special glass separating the testing area from the outer corridor, saw Lex Luthor holding a new weapon and testing its power on a target dummy at the other end.

As he pulled the trigger, beams of almost blinding laser bullets shot towards the target dummy, tearing it to shreds in an instant.

Jaeger noticed that the target dummies seemed to have been secretly and unbelievably made into the image of a certain future hero by Luther.

Watching the Superman targets being shattered one by one, Jaeger inexplicably felt a phantom pain for Superman—

But Luther really does look exactly like the one in the news, especially that bald head that's completely bare.

Just then, Luther noticed Louise and Langdon outside the reinforced glass, so he put down his weapon, hung it aside, and walked over.

"Making killing weapons again, Luther?" Louise said bluntly the moment Luther opened the isolation door. "But if you were facing these weapons, they wouldn't be so interesting."

"Lane," Luther narrowed his eyes, "I heard about the unfortunate accident at the Escaliber Awards last night."

"Yes, you're really well-informed," Louise said sarcastically, then pulled out the mechanical device she'd installed in her car the night before and waved it in front of Luther. "And on the way back, this appeared in my car too."

"This is—" Luther subconsciously took the mechanical device handed to him by Louise.

"Products from your Lex Industries." Louise crossed her arms, a sharp glint in her eyes. "Anything you want to explain, Luther?"

But Luther was Luther after all. His expression remained unchanged in the face of Louise's questioning. Instead, he calmly waved his hand dismissively: "Oh, Louise, if I wanted to kill you, why would I leave you here—"

He glanced at the mechanical device in Louise's hand.

"6

Such obvious evidence?

"Besides, I've always respected you and your work," Luther added, "although most of your reports about Lexcorp are nonsense."

"—" Louise raised an eyebrow and sneered, "Even so, you can't deny that this product did indeed originate from you. You have absolutely no recollection of the person who bought it?"

Hearing this, Luther finally became serious: "That's true."

"Alright, Ryan, I'll investigate where this device came from, since it's a product of Lex Industries."

"As for the outcome," Luther thought for a moment, "it will probably take some time. I'll have my secretary inform you directly."

Louise was somewhat surprised by Luther's unexpectedly agreeable attitude: "Even if it's for the sake of Lex Industries' products, Luther, your attitude today is really off."

In response, Luther, holding the mechanical device, gave a slightly pitying look: "Of course, Ryan—after all, you can't stand at my height to overlook the whole situation, so your perspective is naturally limited."

"Like a trapped beast in the sea, unable to see the whole picture of the event."

Louise: "————"

The most annoying thing about Lex Luthor is that he always inexplicably displays a subtle sense of superiority and contempt for other humans.

The most obvious instance was when he posted online, passionately criticizing the citizens of Metropolis for being too foolish to be blinded by the evil Kryptonians, thinking that Superman was some kind of hero representing hope, while only he saw through the truth — the above is a short essay by a loser, omitting eight hundred words.

However, Louise also had a lot of dealings with Luther through interviews and gradually learned some tricks on how to deal with Luther in order to obtain intelligence.

She smiled and said, "Oh? I'd like to hear more."

"I know what you're thinking, Ryan." Luther glanced at Louise, "but this has nothing to do with me, so consider it free information."

"About a few days ago, an unidentified religious group suddenly appeared in the metropolis. Their beliefs were unclear, and they had highly suspicious financial flows."

"Let's call it a cult for now."

Luther shrugged at this point: "After all, I've never seen a person of upright faith who would deliberately hide their object of faith."

Louise didn't comment on this, but simply asked, "So, this cult is connected to the person who tried to kill me last night?"

"To be precise, they didn't want to kill you; that was just a side effect," Luther said. "What they really wanted was the Escalien Trophy."

As expected. Louise finally received a positive answer from Luther and understood.

But she quickly pressed further: "I see. But where did you get your information, Luther?"

"It's simple," Luther said arrogantly. "Those stupid religious guys secretly contacted the villains operating in Metropolis and promised them a two million dollar bounty if they could get the trophy, no matter how."

"They even contacted me, but don't they realize that Lexcorp wouldn't be short of two million dollars?" Luther scoffed. "Besides, this doesn't benefit me at all, so why should I waste my time?"

"However, I am quite interested in why those guys want the trophy."

"After all, it's just an ordinary journalism award, and it's not like it's been given out for the first time. How could it be worth two million dollars in their eyes?"

"Unless—that trophy holds some secret that only they know."
