Chapter 48, "The Moon Embracing the Sun" OST
"What am I?"
"genius"
"Can't hear"
"genius"
On the highway from Seoul to Incheon, Han Hee-joon gripped the steering wheel, his smile almost reaching his ears.
Wu Haiyuan, in the passenger seat, was very cooperative with Han Xijun, providing emotional support. Who says only men are good at this? If we're really talking about it, which man can resist his girlfriend calling him "Oppa" or other compliments?
Even Han Xijun, who is truly hailed as a genius, is no match for him.
Wu Haiyuan only made a small move, telling Han Xijun that in addition to preparing for their mini-album comeback next year, they also had a comeback hiatus in six cities across three countries arranged by the company, and they wanted to learn songs that locals liked.
Wu Haiyuan hadn't had high hopes.
She knew Han Xijun well; he was someone who didn't follow celebrities and would never bring up certain singers, idol groups, or even movies in conversation. He probably couldn't offer any advice either.
Surprisingly, as soon as Wu Haiyuan asked the question, Han Xijun immediately offered advice.
Wu Haiyuan first asked about Mandarin songs. People living and working in Hong Kong and Macau almost exclusively use Cantonese for daily communication, so Cantonese songs are essentially local dialect songs. However, the difference is that Cantonese, as a niche dialect, is learned by many people in other parts of China, and its songs, movies, and TV series have a very large audience.
Han Xijun casually named several singers.
Wu Haiyuan knew all the names of these singers. Some of them had attended as MAMA award presenters, while others had attended as performers, such as Andy Lau and Eason Chan.
There was only one singer's name I hadn't heard of, Wu Haiyuan.
Out of curiosity, I asked Han Xijun, "Have you heard any songs by the veteran singer Miriam Yeung?"
Han Xijun didn't answer, but instead asked, "Who are you asking about?"
"Okay, genius, the genius I asked."
Han Xijun was very satisfied with the answer and suddenly started humming a tune.
It's music.
These are Cantonese lyrics.
Wu Haiyuan stared wide-eyed at Han Xijun, who was driving.
He just sang it so casually, it sounded even more familiar than nmixx songs. "How do you know how to sing?"
Han Xijun hummed a few lines and then stopped. He quickly turned to look at Wu Haiyuan, who was looking shocked, and calmly said, "How could I sing? This has to start with how I can speak Chinese."
Wu Haiyuan did not interrupt Han Xijun and listened to his story from his university days.
After listening, Wu Haiyuan felt something was off and asked, "Wait a minute, didn't you say you started learning Chinese at the age of 7?"
Han Xijun was stunned for a moment.
He was trying to recall whether he had said it or not.
It's highly likely that he did say that, otherwise Wu Haiyuan wouldn't have "suspicion".
That's too high-profile.
I originally wanted to tease Wu Haiyuan and make her really think that she is the kind of genius who can learn anything in no time.
Wu Haiyuan continued to press: "You also said that Chinese is difficult to learn. Yes, that's what you said. I said that I found it very difficult to learn Chinese with the other trainees at the company. You definitely said that you also found it difficult when you were learning it."
Han Xijun shrugged and said, "So you're my girlfriend, 500 yuan. Haven't you realized you're a genius too? Good memory, smart, and learns very quickly."
Wu Haiyuan waved his hand and said, "I won't let you easily steer the conversation away now, so how come you can sing Cantonese songs?" (Waiting for the red light.)
Han Xijun turned to look at Wu Haiyuan and said very seriously, "It was really shared with me by friends from Hong Kong whom I met in college. At that time, their international student experimental group needed help, and the professor asked me to go. I met five international student friends, two of whom were from Hong Kong."
"real?"
"Really, Miriam Yeung's songs are the songs on their phones, otherwise how would I know?"
"Get up! Get up now..."
The unusual ringtone startled Wu Haiyuan.
Han Xijun asked with a smile, "Haven't you changed your phone ringtone yet?"
Taking out his phone, Wu Haiyuan saw that it was Lily calling and made a shushing gesture, saying, "It's Lily unnie."
Han Xijun frowned.
What's wrong with Lily calling? Why can't I speak? Suddenly, I have this strange feeling that I might be a "secret lover."
He pressed the answer button, and Lily's voice came through the receiver: "Haiyuan, have you and your brother-in-law gotten home yet?"
Wu Haiyuan instinctively turned to look at Han Xijun. Han Xijun said, "She wouldn't let me speak before I answered the phone."
Wu Haiyuan immediately retorted, "When did I?"
Han Xijun smiled and then made a shushing gesture.
Wu Haiyuan explained, "I wanted you to hear my phone ringtone."
Lily, completely confused, interjected, "Did you change your phone's ringtone?"
Wu Haiyuan replied, "No."
Lily asked curiously, "Is it the one you recorded? I've never heard of that brother-in-law?"
Wu Haiyuan changed the subject, asking, "Why is Unnie calling? Aren't you flying to Australia today?"
Lily said excitedly, "I'm at Incheon International Airport right now, but that's not the point. I posted a video in the chat room, you and the other members can take a look."
"Video? What video?"
"Let me see, I think it's okay."
After ending the call, Wu Haiyuan muttered to himself, "Why did they have to leave me wondering when they could have explained it over the phone?"
Han Xijun agreed.
He also dislikes situations where things can't be clearly explained over the phone.
Wu Haiyuan opened Kakao.
Lily shared a video in nmixx's chat room a minute ago.
It was forwarded from YouTube to a chat room.
Wu Haiyuan clicked on the video, and a musical intro immediately filled the car.
"Oh, this one."
Wu Haiyuan muttered something.
The intro is very familiar; you've definitely heard it before.
Han Xijun didn't react in any particular way.
After listening for a few seconds, Wu Haiyuan said, "Isn't this 'Time Reversal'? The OST for the drama 'The Moon Embracing the Sun'." As he spoke, Wu Haiyuan was looking at Han Xijun.
Han Xijun chimed in, "Really? I've never heard of it."
Wu Haiyuan said, "I've heard it. I even learned it before, and I was going to sing it during the end-of-month evaluation. The drama was also very good. I watched it with my mother. It starred Han Ga-in."
Wu Haiyuan did not continue explaining to Han Xijun.
His reaction suggests he probably doesn't even know what level of actress Han Ga-in is.
Among the actresses that Han Hee-joon could remember, or rather, the only ones he could name repeatedly were Kim Tae-hee and Son Ye-jin.
He knew about these two people because they drank soju; Kim Tae-hee and Son Ye-jin were both spokespersons for a soju brand.
The music kept playing.
Wu Haiyuan is absolutely certain that this is the OST for "The Moon Embracing the Sun," only it's a little different; the lyrics are in Cantonese, not Japanese.
It's a cover song.
Wu Haiyuan had already guessed why Lily forwarded the video in the chat room.
She felt that this Cantonese cover of the OST could be performed on stage when they held their handover show in Hong Kong.
