Chapter 81 This kid has been strong since he was little
"?"
Rod and Milan exchanged a glance, both seeing shock in each other's eyes.
"Hmm~" Don Quixote stopped and took a half step back, standing still with his hands on his hips and his head held high.
He looked like a hero awaiting an award, his nose practically pointing to the sky.
She even shook her head from side to side, eagerly awaiting their exclamations of surprise.
Rhodes looked at the narrow crevice in the stone, then glanced at Don Quixote's not-so-tall frame, a rare look of bewilderment in his eyes.
No one could have imagined that such a small body could generate such powerful strength.
At that moment, Rod realized something.
The alien races possess unreasonable height, weight, and strength, which cannot be measured by common sense.
"Has she always been this strong?" Alina in the consciousness space was also stunned. "Can a race like humans do that?"
Without the aid of magic, he opened the door with his own pure power.
"It's all about luck," Milan said, half helplessly and half wistfully, looking at Don Quixote who was standing with his hands on his hips. "I guess I made the right choice in choosing her to come with me."
"Hmm?" Rod blinked, looking at her curiously, waiting for her to continue.
"Hmph, don't think I chose her just because it's convenient for a woman on the road." Meeting Rhodes's probing gaze, since it wasn't a secret anyway, she simply continued, "When I was choosing people from the guard team, I thought that since I was going on a long trip, I definitely couldn't choose a rookie to protect my safety. Safety comes first, so I had to choose someone with solid skills. I can't be the one protecting the other person."
Milan crossed her arms, her gaze fixed on Don Quixote, her tone tinged with amusement and exasperation, "Looking through the entire report card, she's the undisputed number one in both endurance and strength, far surpassing even the tall, muscular warriors of her generation."
"It's a girl again, so it's always more convenient on the road. It doesn't matter if she's a little short. I decided on her on the spot." Milan's expression was a little wistful when she said this.
"The head of the guard team looked strange at the time, stammered for a long time, and even subtly advised me to look at other candidates, saying that this child was too lively and difficult to manage."
So this kid has been strong since he was little!
She scoffed, feeling speechless as she recalled the scene. "I thought it was a local team that was reluctant to let go of their top talent and insisted on taking him on the spot. I figured the newcomer was just a bit spoiled and would be fine after some tempering."
"Who knew we'd only realize something was wrong on the very first day on the road?" Milan wiped her face and said through gritted teeth, "This guy's head is full of scenes from knightly novels. He can imagine dragons robbing the road while walking down the street, and he gets all hot-blooded after just a few words. He's caused a lot of trouble."
"But she did a very good job of her task, didn't she?" Rhodes asked.
Although Don Quixote's method of breaking through seemed unreliable, he managed to withstand most of the ogre's close-range attacks, giving both of them room to deal damage.
"Yes," Milan smiled upon hearing this, "It's a good thing I didn't return her."
"Drink it! Push it all the way in!"
Don Quixote slumped his shoulders and pushed harder, and the heavy stone door slid inward with a rumble, opening an entrance large enough for three people to pass through.
After the choking, aged dust dissipated, behind the door lay an impenetrable, thick darkness, devoid even of the fireflies that were once ubiquitous in the caves outside, like a silent, gigantic maw.
"I'll provide the light." Milan raised her hand and conjured a pale purple orb of light. With a gentle flick of her fingertips, the orb slowly floated into the room.
The moment the warm light slowly spread out, all three of them stopped in their tracks.
What comes into view is nothing like the rough, gray-black mountain rocks outside. The walls and dome of the entire stone chamber are a uniform milky white, with fine and smooth textures on the stone surface. The dome curves gently downwards, and from a distance, it looks as if you are inside the skeletal cavity of some giant creature.
There wasn't a single clump of glowing moss here, nor the damp, musty smell of the cave. The air was dry and crisp, and the stone walls were so smooth that even spiderwebs were hard to find. It was a completely different world from the charred and putrid cave outside.
Rod pressed the dagger at his waist and stepped in first.
The stone chamber was small, only a few steps deep, and one could see it in a glance.
In the very center of the ground lay three complete skeletons, their limbs tucked in, arranged neatly and orderly. Unlike the incomplete and carelessly discarded remains of victims outside, these skeletons resembled those of deceased people who had been buried here according to proper etiquette.
The milky white stone wall reflected a pale purple light, which fell on the yellowed bones, inexplicably revealing a sense of silent solemnity, washing away the blood and vulgarity outside.
"Just a few bones?" Don Quixote followed in, carrying his greatsword. After looking around and not seeing any "hero's treasure" like chests or scrolls, his face immediately fell. "I thought there was magical armor or a holy sword hidden there. What a disappointment."
Milan didn't respond to her words, but walked to the rock wall and raised her hand to touch the stone surface.
The fingertips felt a warm and delicate touch; it was undoubtedly rock, yet it possessed a bony texture unlike that of ordinary mountain rocks.
“They’re all human,” Rhodes said, standing on the other side of the skeleton, his gaze falling on the finger bones. “All three are.”
He crouched down again, his fingertips lightly brushing against the withered wrist joint, his brows furrowing slightly: "He's been dead for at least a hundred years. There are no fatal wounds on his bones, nor any signs of alteration. Judging from the way it's arranged, he must have been the owner of this site."
"The Lost Mage Family —"
Milan repeated the keywords from the clues the school had given her in a low voice. Looking at the neat skeletons and the eerie bone-shaped stone chamber in front of her, she felt that the clues in her mind matched up to a small part, but she didn't have any more concrete evidence.
She stood up and scanned her surroundings, making sure there were no hidden compartments or restrictions, before saying, "There's nothing else here, no traps either. It's just a burial chamber, not worth wasting any more time on."
On the ground directly in front of the three skeletons, there is a faint circular magic circle. The pattern is consistent with the incantation on the stone gate, and it also has the matte texture unique to the magic-absorbing material.
Milan crouched down to brush away the dust, and as her fingertips approached, she felt a faint pull. She immediately withdrew her hand, her brow furrowing slightly.
"It's a sealing array, made of the same material as the stone gate. It can isolate magical fluctuations and protect the remains from evil spirits. However, it's been around for too long, and its energy has long been depleted, leaving only an empty shell."
Rhodes's gaze fell on the leftmost skeleton, where half of a decaying staff lay quietly. The wood of the staff had long since rotted away, with only the dim gem embedded at the top barely maintaining its shape. It was clearly a burial object.
“Three orthodox mages buried in these deep mountains,” Milan murmured, “does indeed resemble a reclusive family.”
Don Quixote squatted down and poked at the patterns on the ground, but there was no reaction. He stood up with little interest: "There's no treasure at all. What a waste of such a well-hidden door."
Despite saying that, she didn't touch the remains. She subconsciously moved aside so as not to disturb the sleeping dead.
"Ah—ah!"

Lily, who had been silent for a long time, suddenly screamed in terror upon seeing this scene.
