The ultimate master in the city
Chapter 150 Cloth Strips
It was only a short time since it got dark when the little girl on the first floor squatted by the wall, took out a string of colorful strips of cloth from her schoolbag, rolled her eyes when she saw them, and turned away to play with them curiously.
Although Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi had never seen these strips of cloth before, they looked very familiar. In particular, each strip of cloth had a button on it, but upon closer inspection, they realized that they were not buttons at all, but rather small skulls.
The two exchanged a glance, and Monk Yuanzhi lowered his voice and asked, "Is this the kind of hanging cloth strip that the old woman was talking about?"
Zhou Fengchen frowned and pointed to the stairwell: "It looks a bit like it. Let's go upstairs first."
The two ran to the second-floor stairwell and silently looked out the window.
Not long after, the little girl came out of the stairwell, looked around, and sneaked to another corner, muttering to herself, "Scattered flowers, colorful cloth, soul-stealing, the road to the underworld..."
He said something, then threw away a strip of cloth. The strip of cloth hit the ground and popped up like a firecracker, emitting a puff of smoke before mysteriously disappearing.
The little girl threw two sticks, startling herself so much that her face turned pale, and she quickly ran back into the house.
In the hallway, Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi exchanged bewildered glances. "What does this mean?"
As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly felt a chill, followed by a tightness in his neck, difficulty breathing, and his feet left the ground. He darted to the iron hook on the top of the stairwell, with a strip of cloth around his neck, exactly the same one the little girl had thrown.
Monk Yuanzhi mumbled a "Damn it!", grabbed his neck, rolled his eyes, and kicked his legs.
Zhou Fengchen quickly held his breath, forming a hand seal with one hand and tapping the cloth strip, "Rushing to Break the Evil Seal, quick!"
The cloth strip loosened and fell down.
Seeing that Monk Yuanzhi's tongue was sticking out, Zhou Fengchen quickly jumped up and knocked off the strip of cloth around his neck.
He then picked up two strips of cloth, made a hand seal, and chanted, "The Six Jia Seal dispels impurities, all evil spirits vanish, hurry!"
The chill on their bodies dissipated instantly.
Monk Yuanzhi coughed a few times, his back bent, and cursed in a hoarse voice, "Damn it! Miss Chen really did make a move! If that piece of trash had come while we were asleep, we'd be in big trouble!"
Zhou Fengchen also felt quite annoyed. He gritted his teeth and said, "Go down and ask that little girl where she got all these rags. That little wench, ever since I killed her aunt, she's been giving me attitude and now she's even started hitting me!"
The two men stormed downstairs, but when they arrived at the girl's house on the first floor, they looked through the window and their anger immediately subsided by half.
The old woman shakily carried a plate of salted garlic, while the little girl held a bowl of dark green beans. The mother and daughter couldn't bear to turn on the light, so they sat at the table and silently ate their dry steamed buns by the dim light of the kerosene lamp. They looked so poor and pitiful.
Monk Yuanzhi shook his head, knocked lightly on the door twice, and said softly, "Auntie, little sister, please open the door."
The old lady asked, "What's wrong?"
Zhou Fengchen said, "We'd like to come inside and sit down for a bit to discuss something, is that alright?"
"Wait a minute."
The old lady shakily tried to stand up and open the door, but the little girl frowned and said fiercely, "Grandma, are you crazy? Those two scoundrels don't look like good people at all. Why are you paying attention to them?"
Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi exchanged a glance, their tempers flaring up again.
"You little brat!" Monk Yuanzhi kicked open the door, strode into the room, grabbed the girl by the hair, and slammed her to the side. "You almost killed us, and you still dare to be so arrogant?"
"Oh dear! What are you doing?" The old lady was shocked and staggered over to pull Monk Yuanzhi away.
Zhou Fengchen stopped the old lady and asked the young girl, "Do you know why we've asked you to come here?"
The little girl was quite stubborn. She lay on the ground, glaring at them through gritted teeth, "I don't care what you're going to do, go ahead and kill me if you dare!"
"Whoa—" Zhou Fengchen also got angry, and winked at Monk Yuanzhi, "Let's be the bad guys today and take him away!"
Monk Yuanzhi picked up the little girl and walked out. When the old lady saw this, she screamed and fainted.
Zhou Fengchen helped the old lady to bed, then took out a string of floral fabric strips from the little girl's schoolbag and followed her out the door.
The two men led the little girl into the alley, where she continued to curse and shout.
Monk Yuanzhi was never a good person to begin with. He slapped him hard across the face, yelling, "Say another word, and I'll kill you!"
The little girl covered her face, panting heavily, and behaved herself.
Zhou Fengchen adopted the good cop stance, picked up the colorful strips of cloth, shook them a few times, and said with a smile, "Little sister, we're really not bad people. Tell me, who gave you these strips of cloth?"
The little girl glared at her and said, "What's it to you? You traitor, you bald monk, you're not a good person."
"Damn it! How did I raise such a stubborn brat!" Zhou Fengchen was furious, unable to maintain his composure any longer. He reached out and ripped off the girl's coat, saying to Monk Yuanzhi, "Strip her naked. Tomorrow morning, send her to school completely naked, let her walk around every classroom, and see if she's ashamed!"
Monk Yuanzhi nodded and reached out to pull down the little girl's pants.
The little girl finally realized she was scared and backed away, bursting into tears. "Don't pull it down! Don't pull it down! I'll tell you, I'll tell you! An auntie gave it to me!"
Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi exchanged a glance and asked, "What kind of aunt? Where did she give you her?"
The little girl choked up as she said, "I met a chubby auntie with short hair on my way home from school the day before yesterday. She said she liked me and bought me lots of snacks. Yesterday she took me out for a nice meal, and today she gave me a hundred yuan and asked me to throw away strips of cloth for her in the corner of our yard while she chanted that word. She said she would throw away two strips every night after dark and wouldn't let me tell anyone."

Fat auntie?
Zhou Fengchen and the other man felt a wave of fear. Luckily, they saw the little girl today. Otherwise, who could bear to hang themselves every day without realizing it?
Zhou Fengchen asked, "Then do you know... where the fat auntie is?"
The little girl nodded. "I know. I was curious yesterday, so I secretly followed her and found that she went into a house where everyone was crying."
The whole family is crying? What nonsense are they talking about?
Zhou Fengchen and his companion were a little confused, but they were glad they knew where Miss Chen was. They burned the remaining strips of cloth, went back inside to get their tools, and had the young girl lead the way to the house.
The three of them first went to the little girl's school, and then searched forward from the school gate, turning and running through several streets, finally stopping in an old alley.
The little girl pointed to a house in front of her and said, "This is it."
When Zhou Fengchen saw this, he was puzzled. The family was holding a funeral. There was a mourning tent set up outside, and a group of people dressed in mourning clothes were walking around inside. There were also bursts of crying.
Monk Yuanzhi asked, "Are you sure you're not mistaken?"
The little girl was very certain, "This is it!"
Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi exchanged a glance. With so many people around, it wouldn't be easy to get things done, so they simply put away their tools and said to the little girl, "Let's go inside. When you see that fat auntie, whisper something to us."
"Mm." The little girl nodded.
The three of them steeled themselves and went inside, where they met family members who came out to greet them. "Where...are you relatives from?"
Monk Yuanzhi immediately put on a sorrowful expression and rambled on: "Distant relative, alas! Please accept my condolences."
Zhou Fengchen also lowered his head and sighed, as if he were very sad.
The family members' eyes reddened. "Cousin, go in and take a look. The body has been there for several days, just waiting for the bride's family to come. The cremation is tomorrow."
"Hmm." The three continued walking inside. When they reached the vicinity of the mourning hall, the little girl looked around and suddenly her face turned pale, and her body began to tremble.
Zhou Fengchen asked, "What's wrong?"
The little girl pointed inside the mourning hall, "She...she's lying there!"
Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi looked in the direction she was pointing and saw a corpse in the mourning hall with a large white cloth covering its neck.
It was a plump woman in her forties or fifties, with short hair and a dark complexion; she looked like she had been dead for several days.
I like the novel "The Strongest Master in the City".
