Becoming a god starting from the weasel

Chapter 4: The Stubborn Village

Huangni'ao is a village with only twenty-five households, and Niu Shan's family lives in the village closest to the mountains.

The sun was blazing hot at that moment, but a lot of people had gathered in front of Niu Shan's house under the sun.

The crowd dispersed, and an old man with a slightly yellowish face, smoking a pipe, squeezed inside.

The old woman, dressed in coarse linen, knelt down excitedly upon seeing the old man. "Second brother! Please help me find Shan Niu Zi!"

"It's been a whole night, something must have happened to him!"

Wu Datian extinguished his pipe and sighed helplessly, "We searched last night too, but the woods are very dense."

"The only way to find Shan Niu Zi is for someone to risk their life."

"There are quite a few bachelors in the village who remain single..."

Wu Datian spoke in a very calm tone, as if he were talking about something extremely ordinary.

Their gazes involuntarily fell on a middle-aged woman in the room, who had large hands and feet but was also quite pretty. She was Niu Cuixiu, also known as Niu Shi.

Niu's face turned pale with fright, and when Granny Niu saw this, she immediately knelt down and begged Niu.

Niu was unsteady on her feet. Thinking of Niu Shan's appearance, she was also worried. She could only clench her fists and prepare to agree.

Outside, a group of shirtless bachelors dressed in coarse linen clothes were rubbing their hands together, eager to fight, while the other families watched this annual occurrence with helpless sighs.

After finishing his business, Wu Datian planned to get rid of the man and choose someone more capable.

Just then, Niu Shan, who had been searching for the path all morning, returned from the field ridge at the foot of Black Wind Mountain.

"Huh?! Why are there so many people in front of my house?!"

Niu Shan rushed back in a panic, shouting, "Get out of the way! Get out of the way!"

He returned just in time to see this scene. "Sanwazi! Are you all out of your minds?! What are you doing in front of my house?!"

Hearing Niu Shan's loud voice, everyone looked like they had seen a ghost!

The bachelor known as Sanwazi, in particular, scratched his head and asked, "Brother Niu? Didn't Uncle say you were in trouble?"

Looking at the villagers watching and the woman wiping away tears, Niu Shan knew exactly what had happened.

He swung his hand and slapped the third child so hard he was completely dazed before explaining what had happened last night to everyone.

However, Niu Shan concealed the fact that he met Huang Daxian and received food from the immortal, only saying that he found a big tree, climbed up it, and guarded it all night, which saved his life.

Upon hearing these stories, everyone in Huangni'ao praised Shan Niu Zi for his good luck!

Only then did everyone leave, leaving only Niu Shan's family.

After closing the thatched wooden door, Niu Shan looked at his mother and wife.

Granny Niu wiped away her tears, "Silly boy! Are you alright? You mustn't go wandering into Black Wind Mountain again!"

Madam Niu was also wiping away tears, saying, "Husband, if anything happens to you, then your mother and I won't be able to live either!"

Niu Shan put his arm around Niu Shi and then revealed a shrewd, simple smile.

"Mom! Your son is so lucky!"

Niu Shan cautiously glanced outside to make sure no one was there before whispering, "Your son saw a fortune teller last night!"

Upon hearing Niu Shan's words, both Granny Niu and Madam Niu were startled! "Ah?"

Before long, Niu Shan brought back the six green amaranth plants from the pit at the foot of the mountain.

Seeing the six green amaranth plants in Niu Shan's arms that were unlike anything they usually saw, Grandma Niu and Madam Niu began to have some doubts.

"Mother, you still don't believe me?"

Niu Shan knew that his mother and wife didn't believe him, so he didn't say much and simply broke off two vegetable leaves.

Grandma Niu and Madam Niu were urged by Niu Shan to eat, as they had been hungry all night because they were worried about Niu Shan.

The moment the amaranth leaves entered my stomach, I noticed a difference. My stomach, which had been aching from hunger and vomiting acid, suddenly stopped hurting, and instead, I felt a long-lost sense of fullness.

This is the feeling of being able to have a full meal only in years when the harvest is good.

"Son! Is this true!?"

Seeing his mother's excited expression, Niu Shan smugly touched his nose!

"Honey, with these precious vegetables, we can get through this if we eat them sparingly!"

Hearing what Niu Shi said, Niu Shan shook his head, "I still need to make some handy farming tools for the immortals."

"The immortals said that if it suits my needs, they will grant me more."

As he spoke, Niu Shan stuffed all the green amaranth into Niu Shi's arms. "Wife, hide these vegetables well. I'll go to my uncle's house to borrow some iron slag."

After giving a few more instructions to make sure no one saw him, Niu Shan strode out the door, glancing at the Black Wind Mountain Range behind the house, shrouded in rain and mist.

These days are tough, and he can only keep his family alive by working diligently for the fortune teller.

Inside the Taoist temple, a small red fox with a large lotus leaf wrapped around its head was found on a bamboo mat, its two large ears just peeking out from under the leaf.

The red fox lay sprawled on the bamboo mat, its tongue pried out, lying there motionless with its tongue lolling out.

Just then, a flying insect landed on the little red fox's nose, and the little red fox suddenly woke up!

"Where...where am I!?"

The little red fox got up and looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings, feeling somewhat panicked.

"Wasn't I catching that pheasant? It seems... I ended up being led down the mountain by the pheasant..."

The little red fox shook its head, thinking about what happened before it fainted, and felt something strange on its head.

The little red fox took off the lotus leaf hat from its head and then discovered that it seemed to contain some damp, crushed grass.

Just as the little red fox was still a bit confused and couldn't figure out what was going on, suddenly, a fragrance wafted into his nose.

It was a fragrance he had never smelled before. The little red fox jumped off the earthen bed and immediately felt some pain all over his body, but it was still bearable.

Pushing open the wooden door, with the lotus leaf hat in his mouth, he jogged along the path following the scent.

Passing through the Sanqing Hall and arriving at the backyard, one sees a weasel crouching by the wall, poking at the fire with a stick.

Next to the weasel was a lush green vegetable field, the roots of which were covered with a layer of wet mud, obviously freshly applied, with some chicken feathers still inside.

"My chicken!"

The little red fox had no idea what had happened; its chickens must have been stolen by the weasel!

Hearing the cry, Chen Yang turned around and immediately saw the little red fox with a look of utter despair, heartbroken over its pheasant.

Seeing that the little red fox had recovered so quickly, Chen Yang was a little curious, but he still walked over naturally.

"Don't worry, your chicken hasn't even gone into my stomach yet."

"Perfect timing, you can eat with me."

"Haven't eaten yet?" The little red fox asked, puzzled. Chen Yang came over and put the lotus leaf hat back on the little red fox's head.

"There's a lot of medicine in there. You hurt your head, so applying some medicine will help it heal faster."

"Come on, let's eat chicken."

After putting the lotus leaf hat on the little red fox, Chen Yang returned to the fire pit and took out a large, dark lump of mud from it.

"Playing PUBG?"

The little red fox looked at the black mud and wondered if it had misheard. The aroma was indeed coming from here, but... how could it eat mud?

However, Chen Yang did not explain. At this moment, Chen Yang was in a very good mood, and his tail was wagging back and forth.

How could I not be happy to eat meat for the first time in so many days? I took the wooden stick I had prepared beforehand and smashed the hardened mud shell on the outside.

Peel back the lotus leaves to reveal the tender yellow chicken, which is mixed with some wild seasonings.

But what's more appealing is the aroma of the braised chicken, the glistening juices, and the tender, golden chicken peeking through the lotus leaves.

There were also some shredded amaranth leaves, which were cooked inside the chicken and smelled delicious.

Seeing this, the little red fox loosened its lotus leaf hat, swallowed hard, and its throat bobbed.
