Mystery: When the Lost Homelanders Meet the Lost Homeland Call
Chapter 70 A Land of Outstanding People and a Lost Home
Chapter 71 A Land of Outstanding People and Beautiful Scenery Lost Its Hometown (Second Update, 3k)
Beyond the curtain of the boundless sea world, at the Leviathan Queen's node.
Having completed its world tour, the Lost Home is now anchored here. Captain Duncan has finished his visit to the Four Gods and set out plans for re-creation.
At this moment, Duncan is having a final meal with all his crew members. After this meal, the destruction of the boundless sea and the creation of a new world will follow.
Duncan sat in the center of the table, Nina to his left, and Alice to his right. To either side, Maurice, Sherry, Agou, Sailor, Luni, and Nel sat together. Even the pigeon Ai and Agatha, who was in phantom form and did not need to eat, had their own seats.
At the far ends of the long table, four chairs were left empty. Duncan had ordered these four seats to be prepared, but he did not say who they were reserved for.
Just as everyone took their seats, Duncan's gaze turned to the far end of the deck, his expression becoming serious.
The very next second, a deep purple starlight mixed with a crimson flame of annihilation ignited on the seat, accompanied by a series of booming sounds.
It was as if some colossal object was rushing in from outside the world at an indescribable speed, and fragile reality was on the verge of collapse in the midst of this sound.
"It's finally here," Duncan smiled. "Our last meeting will be before the end of the world, which is now."
He tapped the table lightly, and a flame, its pale green tinged with deep purple starlight, spread from his hand to the seat, guiding the new flame and stabilizing the reality of the place of his arrival.
Crimson light coalesced, and a certain entity descended at the edge of the world. Starlight converged upon it, defining a humanoid outline for the entity.
Lynn Aberrant returned to the boundless sea.
After the deep purple flames mixed with scarlet ignited, time in the entire world was slowed down until Duncan intervened and things returned to normal. To others, Lynn appeared instantly.
His short, black hair was slightly wavy, tousled by the flames. He wore a worn-out sailor jacket, the hem still tinged with the eerie green flames of the cooled fire. His gaze first fell on Duncan's face, lingered for a moment, then swept over the faces on either side of the table—faces filled with shock, wariness, or bewilderment.
Then he raised his right hand and waved it slightly, as if to say hello.
"————Yo."
"Bang!"
The sun burst open inside the cabin.
Nina was shocked and horrified by the humanoid sun fragment.
He startled her and released his sword energy.
A slap with a temperature of 6000 degrees came right over.
Duncan reacted quickly and immediately controlled the fireball, but Lynn was still covered in flames.
Wiping the dust off his face, Lynn saw the tiny doll, Nil, only a few dozen centimeters tall, holding a huge wine bottle on the table. She had been running around the table pouring wine for everyone, but the moment Nina unleashed her Solar Flare, she practically launched herself off the table and jumped directly onto the top of the chandelier, causing it to sway.
The liquor traced dark red arcs in the air, with some of it splashing precisely onto Maurice's monocle.
"—My glasses." Morris calmly took off his glasses, took out a handkerchief from his pocket and began to wipe them, but his hand trembled slightly. "Mr. Lynn, your appearance is always so sudden. An old man can't take such a shock."
"Sorry, sorry," the brown-haired girl quickly apologized, showing no sign of having just unleashed a 6000-degree solar punch. "I didn't expect it to be you from that aura, I'm so sorry—"
Lynn looked at Morris in a daze, about to speak, when she noticed that Morris's composure had already crumbled.
Alice was startled by Lynn's sudden appearance.
With a strange, soft "pop," Lynn saw a silver-haired head fall onto the table with a thud, then roll off to the floor. The person sitting next to it...
In a panic, he reached out and grabbed wildly, knocking over a glass of wine, which splashed onto Maurice's newly cleaned monocle.
Morris sighed and noticed that everyone else at the table, except Duncan, had left the table the instant he threw the Sun Punch.
Sherry was pulled off the table by Ah Gou. Lucrecia grabbed Luni with one hand and Nilu with the other, pulling them both aside with amazing speed. Phantom Agatha returned directly to the mirror.
He was the only elderly man who couldn't leave immediately.
The head rolling around on the table emitted a series of cries for help: "Captain, help help help help—" 17 cries for help per second.
Lynn was stunned. He knew that the Alice doll's joints were unstable, but personally demonstrating the joint dislocation was obviously a different matter.
All I can say is that the visual impact of this scene was...
That's a bit too strong.
The last vestige of seriousness at the scene was shattered by that falling head.
Vana reacted quickly, immediately reaching for the head on the table to intercept it. However, the attack was swept away, and Alice's head flew through the air in an elegant arc, striking the captain squarely in the face. The captain caught it and frantically tried to reattach it to Alice's body.
Lynn sat amidst the commotion, stunned for a few seconds before laughing with relief. The captain...
Fang is indeed a place of outstanding people and beautiful scenery.
The brief chaos ended with the captain successfully attaching the head to the doll lady's neck.
After everything settled down, only Maurice remained, pondering why his glasses were being so coveted by the wine.
However, everyone's main attention is still on Lynn right now.
"Captain, it seems you anticipated my arrival?"
Lynn patted the remaining green flames on his clothes, his tone tentative, his gaze sweeping over Duncan's face, which looked as if he were seeing an old friend return.
Duncan didn't answer immediately. He leaned back in his chair, picked up his glass, and took a sip.
"I expected it—well, not really." Duncan put down his glass, folding his hands on the table. "But I did know you'd come. I've met you before."
Lynn leaned forward in confusion: "I don't remember this at all."
Duncan smiled: "Of course, because this is something that will happen to you in the future. You will find more connections and a better position later before you meet with me."
"You were the one who told me before that we would meet for the first time before the end of the world, in your past and my future."
"—That's all?" Lynn leaned back in her chair.
"That's all." Duncan spread his hands, his smile carrying a hint of innocent honesty.
"You're being quite mysterious," Lynn said, leaning back in his chair and staring into Duncan's eyes, trying to find a trace of "premeditated planning" in his expression. "I almost thought you had prepared the script in advance."
Duncan raised his glass and waved it at him: "Just something I came up with on the spur of the moment. Pretty good, huh?"
Lynn paused for a moment, then laughed. He had to admit that Duncan's words were indeed very vivid; if they were in any novel, readers would definitely interpret them as foreshadowing of "everything had been arranged in advance." But this person in front of him shattered it with the phrase "just thought of on the spot."
"Your words only make me more suspicious." Lynn shook his head. "To be honest, did you plan this all in advance while in the warp?"
"The subspace isn't really suitable for editing," Duncan said. "Every time I go there, the amount of information is enormous."
Lynn covered his face, his shoulders shaking uncontrollably. He arrived at the familiar yet unfamiliar Lost Home, and saw a leg he could lean on. He wanted to laugh, but felt that this was not appropriate for the occasion. In the end, he had a complicated expression that was somewhere between suppressing a laugh and sighing.
"Okay, I believe you," Lynn said, lowering his hand and his expression becoming more serious again. "But I have another question. The feeling I had when I came through was quite unstable; the passage was constantly swaying, like walking on a rope that could snap at any moment. Was the 'connection' you felt like that too?"
Duncan's expression softened slightly. He tilted his head slightly, as if sensing something, and after a moment spoke: "Yes. It's unstable, and it's weakening. The very act of communicating between us is consuming what sustains this channel—the amount of information."
"Information load," Lynn pondered. "That means every time you say something, or I reply, the channel wears down a little. Inter-universe communication inherently requires a large amount of information to anchor; it can't be established out of thin air. So our communication is damaging the channel."
Duncan raised his eyebrows slightly, giving him a "you're right" look: "Yes, and every word of that conversation was draining us. The more detailed you are, the harder it is to anchor."
"Is there any way to accurately pinpoint the location in spacetime? Since the amount of information is limited, what I want to know most right now is how to stabilize this connection, or how to find you on my own next time. If this situation happens again, there has to be a way."
Duncan pondered for a few seconds, his gaze passing over Lynn to the gray-white void outside the cabin. After a while, he looked back at Lynn, who was expecting him to provide a solution. But Duncan said, "This method was developed by your future self. The amount of technical information is too large to be transmitted through this channel."
"Okay, alright."
Lynn shook his head helplessly, leaned back in his chair, and changed the subject. Knowing that the amount of information was limited, Lynn spoke quickly.
Although compressing time is meaningless for the amount of information.
The other crew members also sensed the importance of this conversation and stopped what they were doing.
"Then let's change the subject. Since you've seen the future," is there anything from the future that I should pay attention to, any kind of reminder that might be useful to me now?"
Duncan raised his head, his lips slightly parted, as if he were about to say a name or something.
But the moment he opened his mouth, a sharp noise, like metal scraping against glass, exploded in the air, rushing in from every direction at the same time and drowning out his voice.
Lynn saw Duncan's expression turn serious for a moment, his lips moved twice, but the syllables seemed to be forcibly erased by something, and only fragmented pieces could be barely made out: "Beware of the outer universe—"
Then the sound was drowned out by an even louder roar, as if the entire supporting structure of the tunnel was shattering at the same time.
The outline of the dining table began to blur, Nina and Alice's faces turned into melting blocks of color, and the sounds of Sherry and Ah Gou arguing became distant echoes.
Duncan's last words struggled through the collapsing tunnel, brief, hoarse, as if torn apart: "Watch out, ¥#%————%¥#————"
The next second, Lynn felt himself being pulled up from his seat by a great force and thrown backward. The whole world twisted, stretched, and shattered into countless gray-white fragments in front of him.
The last thing he saw was Duncan still sitting across the table, raising his glass and nodding slightly at him, saying softly, "Let's have another drink next time we meet."
"Remember to bring a Coke."
Lynn: "Huh? Cola?"
