I made up magic and taught a world-destroying witch?

Chapter 4: The Magical Miracle Begins with Heating in the Fireplace

"Uh, um..." Mia hesitated for a long time, then stammered, a rare occurrence for her.

"I feel like... the basket is a bit hot?"

Grace also opened her eyes.

"I felt it too," she said. "The box was... a little warm."

The two looked at each other for the first time, their eyes meeting directly.

Mia scratched her head. "Have we been sitting here too long and are we hallucinating from being warmed by the fireplace?"

"I don't know." Grace, unusually, did not give a definite answer.

She had read all the magical theory books in the Royal Library, but absolutely none of them mentioned that imagining a square in one's mind could cause such an absurd symptom as intracranial fever.

"It must have been roasted by fire," Mia nodded confidently.

"The fireplace is on your side, and the spot where I'm sitting is blowing cold air."

An eerie silence fell over the reception room.

"Perhaps," Grace guessed, "it's the method the master taught that's working?"

Mia's eyes lit up for a moment, but then her face fell again, and she muttered to herself with a worried expression:

"But my frame isn't very good."

"Miss Taylor."

"what?"

"Perhaps you could try making the four edges more even?"

Mia looked at her warily:

"You had your eyes closed and weren't looking at me, how did you know my frame's four sides weren't even?"

"...A reasonable guess." Grace forced a smile.

Mia pursed her lips suspiciously, but didn't press the matter further.

She's so happy she's practically flying!

This was the first time she felt that the magic within her body was no longer a jumbled mess, but was now truly contained within something!

"Should we hurry up and report to the master?" Mia asked excitedly, rubbing her hands together.

"Sir probably already knew," Grace said with considerable certainty.

How did you know?

"He's a great magician," Grace said matter-of-factly.

"He should be able to sense every step of our progress here."

His not coming down indicates that he feels our current progress is within his expectations.

Mia opened her mouth wide thoughtfully and exclaimed in genuine admiration:

"Sir, you are really patient! If it were me, I would have run down to see long ago."

"As expected of the master, he must have anticipated our progress!"

Meanwhile, Joseph almost fell asleep, but Marco woke him up when he came to deliver some documents.

"Mr. Joseph," Marco knocked on the door and came in carrying a stack of documents.

"This is the consumables requisition form for this month, which requires your signature."

Joseph rubbed his eyes, took the pen, and quickly signed his name.

"Oh, by the way, sir," Marco said casually, his face full of admiration as he put away the documents.

"I just passed by the reception room on the first floor, and your two students were still practicing. They're really diligent, still practicing at this hour."

"Still practicing?"

"Yes, I've been in the association for many years and have seen quite a few students, but it's rare to see someone practice so much in the first class that they forget about time."

He didn't say the last sentence.

Not to mention that these two were problem students who had been returned by other colleges.

Mr. Joseph’s teaching ability to get them so engaged in the very first lesson is simply incredible!

Joseph glanced at him and put down his pen.

"Marco, what time is it?"

"It's almost six o'clock, sir."

He remembered leaving the reception room around three o'clock.

Those two students spent nearly three hours in the meeting room creating spell slots with their eyes closed.

And there was no explosion sound?

"Okay, you can go ahead and get busy."

After seeing Marco off, Joseph quickly stood up and straightened his wrinkled mage robes.

After all, it would be strange if a normal person didn't fall asleep after closing their eyes for so long. The fact that he came down late was a perfect opportunity to use his patience, which is also part of his cultivation, to teach them a lesson. He was simply impeccable teaching material!

He walked down the spiral staircase at a leisurely pace, and when he reached the door of the reception room, he paused and listened carefully to what was happening inside.

It's quiet; they're probably asleep.

Mia, with her personality, wouldn't be this quiet when she's awake.

He grasped the doorknob and pushed the door open.

The fire in the fireplace was still burning, and a few pastries were missing from the tea tray; everything was much the same as it had been a few hours earlier.

That's all for today's practice...

He was halfway through his sentence when he noticed that the two students were sitting face to face, and they showed no signs of being sleepy after just waking up.

"...You guys haven't slept...cough, you've been practicing the whole time?" Joseph coughed.

"Yes, sir!" Grace nodded respectfully.

Mia even jumped up from the sofa and asked:

"Sir, I have a question!"

What should I do if the frame is crooked? Also, is it normal for the frame to get hot?

Joseph instinctively gave a perfunctory reply:

"If it's crooked, just practice more. As for the fever..."

Wait, fever?

Joseph's brain went blank for a moment.

Fever? How is that possible?

That box was a skill bar border he made up from a game. How could a broken UI icon possibly be a hot topic in his brain?

She must have been sitting by the fireplace for too long and got a fever from the heat.

Joseph pondered for a moment without changing his expression, then began to deceive:

"That's normal. During the encapsulation process, magic will generate a small amount of energy conversion, which will be released as heat."

"The heat indicates that the spell slot frame has begun to interact with magic."

Mia's eyes widened: "So having a fever is a good thing?"

"That's one way to understand it," Joseph nodded, continuing his nonsense.

"In the old magic spells, the magic power was released directly during the casting, so you wouldn't have this feeling."

This encapsulation heat effect only occurs when a framework is first constructed using new magical methods, and then the magic is encapsulated.

Mia suddenly realized, and the confusion on her face vanished:

"Oh, I see! I thought it was because I'd been sitting in the fireplace for too long and gotten so hot!"

It turns out it was the encapsulation thermal effect of the new magic!

This is a phenomenon that has never occurred in the old magic system.

She could not learn the theory from books, but she could feel it as soon as the teacher taught her. And it was not a vague understanding, but a real feeling of the progress of temperature changes!

What does this tell us?

This proves that Mr. [Name]'s method is correct, and she is not the kind of useless person with zero self-control that those teachers described!

She just hasn't found the right method yet.

The teacher is so amazing! She has already touched the threshold of new magic in the first lesson. She must work harder and not let the teacher down!

Joseph looked at the enlightened expression on Mia's face.

This guy was roasted in the fireplace, no doubt about it.

He probably racked his brains for ideas, which were then heated up by the fireplace all afternoon, and then he just made up some random term to fool everyone.

But it's alright, as long as I believe it.

Grace nodded slightly, her tense shoulders relaxing a little.

She had felt that warmth just now, but she didn't ask.

On one hand, she was unsure if it was just her imagination, and on the other hand... she didn't want to reveal her uncertainty to Mia.

Now that her husband had personally explained the principle, she finally felt relieved.

As expected, the gentleman knows everything.

Joseph stood at the door, looking at the genuine respect on the faces of the two students, and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Fortunately, he reacted quickly; he himself couldn't even continue making up that "encapsulation thermal effect" explanation.

Why does the magic encapsulation system generate heat?

Who knows?

As long as the students believe it, that's fine.

"That's all for today," he said, clearing his throat as he finished speaking.

"Study should be balanced with rest; practicing for too long on the first day is actually not good."

"Let's go, I'll take you to eat."

"Have a meal?"

Mia's ears twitched almost visibly, and her stomach even made a rumbling sound in perfect unison.
