I made up magic and taught a world-destroying witch?

Chapter 92 Defeat, Starting with Roasted Insects
Mia stared at the mollusk below, which was so black that its original color was no longer recognizable, and it took her a while to find her voice.
"Wow, this is amazing!"
She glanced at the Tide Beetle, then at Joseph, and couldn't help but say, "When I watched the academy's practical training sessions, I never saw a professor make two spells work together like this!"
Although she later dropped out of school, she still saw those professors use magic. Those professors were certainly very powerful, but none of them were like Mr. [the teacher]!
Mia was momentarily at a loss for words to describe just how deep the master's understanding of the new magic was.
When Grace heard Mia's words, her gaze also fell on Joseph, and she was just as shocked as Mia.
She had witnessed many court mages casting spells and the association's high-ranking observers controlling complex magic arrays. But even those in the association who specialized in magic control probably couldn't, like the gentleman, simultaneously and quietly coordinate two completely different spells even when magic was waning!
What she found even more incredible was that the man was using a new magic that she and Mia had only recently mastered.
She had only heard of Professor Joseph Grantham's theoretical reputation, knew that he was the Empire's youngest archmage, and that he was pioneering a new magic system.
But she never imagined that, in addition to the theories that amazed even the college professors, the professor's own abilities had reached such an incomprehensible level.
And she actually had the opportunity to become a student personally mentored by such a pioneer.
Grace had a jumble of thoughts running through her mind, but now was clearly not the time for sentimentality. She quickly composed herself and looked back at the tidal beetles still climbing up the pontoon bridge.
"Sir," Grace asked earnestly, "should I first use the purple thread to control the Tide Beetle, making it flip over and expose its weak point underneath, and then have Mia's furnace light travel along the purple thread?"
Mia immediately added, "Then I just need to hit the soft spot down there!"
"Yes." Joseph nodded. It seemed that the two students understood very quickly, at least they didn't see his demonstration as just a simple lesson on roasting insects.
Joseph glanced again at the few more molluscs climbing up the stake, thought for a moment, and said, "But forget about the repair and channeling spells we just talked about."
Mia: "?"
Grace: "?"
The fisherman standing nearby also looked a little bewildered.
No, I've been talking for so long, and the echoes and complete shadows of the future have all appeared. How can I suddenly make the students forget it all now?
Are the courses at the college really this flexible?
Joseph could tell from their expressions that his words were likely to be misunderstood.
"What I mean is, let's not think about those things right now."
Healing and channeling spells do sound impressive, and at the current rate, they might even lead to new magical schools in the future. The problem is, while life skills can be developed gradually, it's best to practice survival skills first.
At the very least, we must ensure that students live long enough to be able to study advanced theories.
After all, it's generally difficult for the dead to continue learning skills. Aside from necromancy, which is said to be extinct, other schools of magic probably don't support this special teaching method.
"Repair and guidance are the directions you will take in the future," Joseph continued, "but when a monster has already crawled in front of you, you must at least have a way to keep it away from you."
Mia and Grace both became serious at the same time, and Joseph pointed to the nearest water beetle: "You two try it once."
"I'll go first," Grace said.
She raised her right hand, and a thin purple line quickly appeared at her fingertips, clearly much worse than what Joseph had just demonstrated. Grace tried to recall the gentleman's movements, wanting the purple line to wrap directly around the shell of the water beetle and pull it off the stake.
The purple line successfully touched the water beetle. Grace pulled hard, and the water beetle's body did sway slightly, but only slightly.
Grace: "————"
The beetle stopped, its short legs gripping the wooden stake, and looked up at it with a hint of confusion.
The grey-backed fish poked its head out of the barrel: "It can't be pulled."
Grace blushed slightly.
"It's okay," Joseph said immediately, "just don't copy me directly."
He's now a basic, enhanced version of a Grand Mage. If Grace can really pull a basin-sized bug off a wooden stake on her first try, then the other professors at the Royal Academy might really need to consider retiring.
"You can also use purple thread to wrap around the edge of the shell and make them lose their balance."
Grace nodded. She then controlled the purple line again and pulled it to the side near the lower part of the water beetle's carapace. The water beetle's body, which had been clinging tightly to the stake, suddenly tilted, and its short legs frantically searched for a new place to grab on.
"Now!" Mia said nervously. She raised her hand, and a small ball of reddish-gold spark lit up at her fingertips. The moment the spark appeared, Mia subconsciously wanted to make it bigger.
But she immediately remembered the piece of wood that her husband had scorched earlier. Although it wasn't a repair now, roasting the entire stump was clearly not something to be proud of.
Mia tried to suppress the sparks, letting the reddish-gold light slide down Grace's purple line and hit the edge of the Tide Beetle's shell. A little white smoke rose from the Tide Beetle, but it did not fall down. Instead, it clung to the wooden stake and continued to climb up.
"Don't rush," Joseph said. "Grace, pull it a little more to the side. Mia doesn't need to try to burn it to death all at once. As long as it loosens its grip on the stake and falls down, that's enough."
The two readjusted their movements. Grace stopped trying to completely imitate Joseph's actions and instead used the purple thread to forcefully pull the shell of the Tide Beetle outwards while wrapping it around one side. The red and gold sparks on Mia's fingertips lit up again.
"go!"
The spark slid down the purple line and landed on the belly of the water beetle. The water beetle's short legs immediately loosened their grip on the stake, and its whole body fell back into the muddy beach below with a thud.
The beetle struggled in the mud for a few moments, with a little smoke still rising from the edge of its shell. The fisherman looked down at it for a while and made a very professional judgment: "It's alive, but it probably won't live much longer."

The grey-backed fish in the wooden bucket slowly poked its head out again: "Tragic."
Mia:
For some reason, the joy of their first success suddenly seemed a little strange, thanks to what this fish had said. They were clearly protecting the floating bridge, so why did it sound like they were bullying an innocent passing insect?
"Sir, we succeeded!"
Grace had already turned to look at Joseph, and for the first time, her usually quiet and restrained face showed such obvious excitement.
"Yes." Joseph nodded. "Continue."
There are a few more around, so I can practice a few more times.
Moreover, the patrol team is currently busy dealing with an even larger swarm of insects and doesn't have time to notice whether they are conducting practical training or secretly opening a new magical insect roasting stall.
The two continued to attack the Tide Beetles using the same method. When the last Tide Beetle fell back into the mud from the wooden stake, Joseph's red-gold spell slot and purple spell slot in his mind suddenly flashed at the same time!
