This adventurer is overly righteous.

Chapter 3 at least yielded their friendship.

"Give me a hand."

Carter heard Kroya's voice and walked to the edge of a hillside to look down.

Croya stood halfway down the slope, a calf strapped to his back, its four legs bound together with rope, its head resting on his shoulder, its wet nose rubbing against his neck. Croya supported the calf's rump with one hand and stretched upwards with the other.

His position was awkward—just two more steps down was a dry drainage ditch, the bottom of which was full of gravel.

Carter was speechless. He reached out and pulled the man and the cow up.

"What kind of mission is this?"

"This isn't actually a mission; someone just asked me to help out..."

"Oh My God!"

Carter covered his face, looking exasperated.

"Don't make that face." Kroya carried the calf, which weighed about 100 pounds, on his back. Its leg must have been broken, so he had to carry it. "Cattle are very precious to farmers."

"They can plow the land, produce milk, and when they get old, they can be killed and eaten..."

"I don't want to hear this!"

This was the sixth day since Carter and Croya set off together, and Carter increasingly felt that Croya had gone mad.

"You take any job, and you don't even get paid..."

Carter felt speechless. This guy was hardly an adventurer. The people in Nome Village treated him like a sucker, pushing all sorts of problems onto Kroya, who seemed to enjoy it.

"How much longer are you going to stay here?"

"The field mouse problem hasn't been solved yet." Carrying a calf weighing a full 100 pounds, Croya still moved with incredible speed. His strength was f, which surpassed that of ordinary people. "They are very intelligent. The previous operations were not very effective, but we have discovered all their burrows. This time, there should be no problem."

Use something that produces a pungent odor and smoke to draw out the field mice hiding underground, and then Croa will kill them all.

These mutated field mice, which are about the size of a medium-sized dog, are quite troublesome for ordinary farmers to deal with, and they might even hurt themselves.

"So when was that?"

The sun was gradually setting, and its afterglow bathed the hillside in an orange-yellow hue.

"Tomorrow," Kroya replied. "If nothing unexpected happens, it will be tomorrow."

"In other words, you spend seven days on these trivial matters and don't earn anything."

"If you can complete the task of driving away the field mice, the total reward is 4 silver coins."

The reason why no adventurers are willing to do these tasks is because the rewards are too low. One silver coin is equivalent to one hundred copper coins, and four silver coins can barely buy a decent one-handed sword.

But this took Croa a week.

"With your skill level, you can earn at least six or seven silver coins a week."

Although we didn't see Kroya fight the monster, Carter's experienced eyesight still allowed him to see that Kroya's strength far exceeded that of ordinary novice adventurers.

He has at least an F- level of physical strength, is skilled in martial arts, was previously a trainee priest, and knows magic, so you could say he has quite good potential.

However, Carter was somewhat frustrated that he wasted so much time on these things.

"Looking at it another way, we gained their friendship..."

Croa said optimistically.

Hello.

Several girls from Nome village, carrying baskets on their heads, passed by and greeted Kroya warmly before leaving with blushing cheeks.

As they entered the village, the busy villagers stopped what they were doing because of Kroya's arrival, and they looked at him with respect and gratitude.

Carter knew perfectly well why, in just six days, Kroya not only completed all ten-plus tasks that Nome Village had submitted to the Adventurers' Guild, but also voluntarily and without charge did many extra things that Carter considered quite troublesome.

He used calming magic to help insomniacs fall asleep, healing magic to cure illnesses, and protective magic to bless mischievous children. He repaired the dilapidated houses of the poor and even helped them find their lost livestock...

Kroya did so much here that Carter felt like there were perhaps forty-eight hours in a day.

Carter found it utterly absurd. He had met many people who loved making friends and had extensive and solid connections within the Adventurers' Guild, like the roots of an old tree. He could understand that; it was common for adventurers to work together to complete difficult tasks.

But someone like Croa was unheard of.

What's the use of this?

What's the point?

Is it really true, as he himself said, that he became an adventurer in order to be an extremely foolish but philanthropic person?

Perhaps this is the answer to the question, but Carter finds it somewhat hard to accept. It's like someone loudly proclaiming themselves to be the son of God; even if they are incredibly powerful, people will still choose to doubt them until they truly demonstrate their divine power.

At night, the two of them each had a place to stay in the village. There were naturally no inns in the small village, so Carter made do in the cowshed, which was considered a basic skill for adventurers.

Dinner consisted of some cold water, dried meat, and bread that he had prepared himself before setting off; it was dry and hard...

"If you'd like to do something for them too," Kroya leaned out of a window, a bowl of hot soup rising from his overly pale face, "you can also have broth and soft bread."

"They'll even clean out a room for you to sleep in, instead of making you lie in the cowshed."

Well, all that thinking seems a bit ridiculous now. Perhaps Kroya just wants to please the villagers so he can have some meat soup and get a good night's sleep...

Although the reason seemed far-fetched, Carter could barely accept it.

"Don't you want to drink it?"

Kroya held out the bowl a little, and Carter hesitated before taking it.

"If you want to go inside to sleep, I can talk to them about it."

"No, sleeping in the cowshed isn't actually that bad..." Carter, with the pride of a senior adventurer, was unwilling to accept help from a newcomer. "I'll just sleep outside."

He answered stubbornly, but the bowl of soup was finished and the bowl was taken away by Croya.

"Then I'm going to sleep. I have a wool blanket and a straw mat."

"And there are pillows filled with wool..."

"I'll sleep outside!"

"Then do as you please, and..." Kroya shrugged, "Sweet dreams."

Kroya then closed the window, and in the lower left corner of his line of sight, there were many small words that he had not yet identified.

Your willingness to share is a commendable virtue.

[Charm slightly increased]

Your appreciation for food is a commendable virtue.

[Magic power slightly increased]

……

Your good deeds spread in people's hearts, and the goddess you believe in rejoices because of them.

[The effect of divine favor has been slightly improved]

The attribute growth rate is much faster than before.

Compared to his previous life where he could only sit in the church, Kroya felt that becoming an adventurer was an absolutely correct choice.

This pleased Kroya.

Unfortunately, he could only see the small text indicating that his attributes had improved, and he couldn't check his panel in real time. He would only be able to see the specific improvement by returning to the Adventurers' Guild in Whitestone Town.
