Law America, the Devil's Agent
Chapter 11 An Unknown Soldier Entrusted with an Important Task
Benny pressed himself against the wall, watching Link berate Robin Klein mercilessly, feeling both surprised and a little pleased.
Like Link before him, he was a shy and reserved pragmatist, but awkward in socializing and expressing himself.
He had been suppressed by Robin for far too long.
Just as Link was about to continue his attack, a series of hurried footsteps came from outside the door.
Then, the door was pushed open a crack, and a middle-aged male lawyer wearing frameless glasses poked his head in.
He was the leader of another group, Herman Brookes.
At Curtis Law Firm, lawyers are ranked as follows: junior (trainee), senior, team leader, and partner.
Unlike Robin, who was incompetent, this man was a senior team leader in the law firm's litigation team.
"The two of you."
Herman lowered his voice and said, "Excuse me for interrupting, but we have important guests visiting today."
Senior Partner Mr. McLean will personally greet them, and I think at this time it's best if everyone...
Stay calm. After all, it's best not to air your dirty laundry in public, right?
After he left, the room became quiet.
Link patted his clothes, turned around, opened the door, and walked out without looking back.
……
About fifteen minutes later, a commotion suddenly broke out in the law firm.
The corridor gradually became denser with people, and footsteps converged towards the lobby.
Link stood up and walked into the corridor, following the flow of people to the junction of the law firm's front desk and lobby, peering out through the glass doors.
Outside the gate, three obviously modified black Escalades were parked in a row on the side of the road.
The car door opened, and the first to get out were four or five burly middle-aged men.
They wore gray-black tactical uniforms, and their gait clearly bore the marks of military discipline.
This indicates their status as retired veterans.
The person walking at the very front was the most robust.
Around fifty years old, his temples were already gray, but the muscles in his neck and shoulders were still strong.
Senior partner Dylan McLean was standing outside the door to greet him.
His smile was polite and restrained. He shook hands with the burly man and led him inside.
"That's the owner of AnDun Security Company."
A beautiful figure appeared beside Link and whispered something.
It was Kona.
Link nodded slightly. The two had been working together before, and their contact had become increasingly close recently.
"What brings him to your father?"
Kona whispered, "His name is Klaus. He was a colonel in the Rangers before retiring, and then he started a private security company in Philadelphia."
He was also the vice president of the Philadelphia Soldiers' Association.
Upon hearing this, Link suddenly realized what was going on.
"I know that; our law firm has always been the one providing legal aid and advice to their association."
"But there's still no word on contract renewals after this year."
Kona said calmly.
"Oh? What happened?"
"It might involve a case, but my father didn't tell me the details."
Link nodded, without asking her any further questions.
Just as Klaus and old McLean were about to enter the conference room, a voice suddenly rang out in the corridor.
"Link!"
The sound was soft, but it drew everyone's attention.
Daniel stepped out from the group of security guards behind Klaus.
Today, he was dressed in a clean and neat security uniform, a far cry from his usual drunken and decadent self.
He walked straight toward Link, his steps quick, his face beaming with undisguised joy.
"Attorney Link!"
He walked up to Link and extended his hand.
"Daniel, I didn't expect to see you again so soon."
Link took his hand and patted him on the shoulder.
Although it was just a simple greeting, it held a different meaning for the lawyers around them at that moment.
Klaus stopped in his tracks.
He turned around and looked at Link in the direction the crowd was looking.
His sharp gray eyes lingered on Link for a moment, then he turned his head and whispered something to McKlain beside him.
He looked at Link and nodded.
Then, Klaus walked over to Link.
Just then, Robin appeared out of nowhere, quickly walked up to Klaus, and gave him a warm, almost fawning smile.
"Mr. Klaus!"
It is a great honor to have you at our law firm today!
I'm Robin Klein; you've probably heard of me. I was in charge of several cases for the Soldier's Association before.
The cooperation with the association has always been very pleasant, and providing the highest quality legal services to your members has always been my top priority…
He spoke with great enthusiasm, completely absorbed in his own words.
But Klaus didn't respond.
His gaze passed through Robin and landed directly on Link.
"Are you Attorney Link?"
The voice was deep and brief.
"I am."
"I know about Daniel's situation. He's one of my top students. Thank you for your help in helping him overcome the shadow of his family and regain his confidence."
Klaus extended his hand to shake his: "Daniel and many members told me afterwards that you were involved in almost all of the association's cases. Thank you for your help to the Soldiers Association."
Robin's smile froze on his face.
He looks like a clown now.
How ridiculous my recent frantic actions must have seemed to those who knew the truth.
"It's just my job."
Link shook his hand and replied politely.
"very good."
Klaus nodded, a hint of approval flashing in his gray eyes: "If there's an opportunity, I hope we can collaborate in the future."
"Ready to serve you anytime."
Klaus nodded and then turned to walk toward the conference room with old McLean.
The rest of the entourage followed behind, with Daniel at the very back. He greeted Link as he passed by before entering the conference room with his boss.
The important person left, and the crowd dispersed.
The lawyers returned to their respective workstations, though a few occasionally glanced back at Link.
Robin stood there for a long time before slowly moving towards his office.
Time slowly passed until afternoon.
Link noticed that his workload had significantly decreased:
Several applications and tasks that were originally assigned to him were transferred to Benny's name.
He glanced through the operation logs and saw Robinck's permission signature.
Link turned off the screen, his expression unchanged.
He had already anticipated this outcome.
If you confront your incompetent boss directly, you're bound to face repercussions later.
That's all Robin can do.
He used his power to cover up cases, obstruct promotions, and manipulate things.
The problem is, Link doesn't care anymore.
He won't stay in this group for much longer.
Whether you apply through Herman or talk to old McLean directly, it doesn't matter.
That submissive Link is dead.
Today, I've already torn up my dignity in the office; there's no point in keeping it.
Once everything was ready, he stepped out of his cubicle.
Off-get off work time.
Humming a little tune, I pushed open the glass door and stepped into the cool evening air of Philadelphia.
I felt much better after yelling at my boss.
He had just walked to the car and was about to insert the key into the lock when he heard a greeting from behind.
"Hey sir, want a ride?"
"No need, I'll drive... um?"
The voice sounded strangely familiar, and Link turned his head.
Daniel was sitting in the Lincoln SUV next to him, smoking a cigarette and smiling at him.
Link chuckled, pulled out the key, and walked over. "Everyone's waiting for me to recap the case? Tell me, what do you think of my suggestions?"
Daniel nodded, a satisfied expression appearing on his rough face.
"Very useful."
"The ways you taught me to treat them have already surprised and delighted them. It also allowed me to vent my anger during this time."
He grinned, his face no longer bearing the bitterness and resentment of before, but only a sense of relief after release.
Link smiled and nodded.
"In that case, the three hundred dollars tip you gave me was really worth it."
Daniel laughed out loud and scratched the back of his head.
Link looked at him, then suddenly changed the subject:
Why aren't you leaving yet?
"Your boss should have finished talking by now, right?"
"We've finished talking, but..."
"There are disagreements."
"Yes, I don't know the specifics. I only know that the boss wasn't in a good mood when he came out of the secret meeting room."
Daniel took the unlit cigarette out of his mouth and tucked it between his fingers:
"I was supposed to go back with the boss. But he told me to wait here."
"Oh?"
He wants to see you.
Daniel looked into Link's eyes:
"He knows your current situation and abilities, and being under Robin's wing is definitely not what you want."
There are some things McLean and his men wouldn't dare do, but maybe coming to you might be helpful.
Link paused for a moment, his mind racing.
The commission must be something extraordinary, something that would require the private security company owner and the vice president of the soldiers' association to personally send their cars over for a meeting.
Even the seasoned partners found it somewhat tricky, and it must be incredibly difficult.
But... so what?
He wasn't one of those high-ranking officials in the political and legal system; he was just a greenhorn.
Robin is busy making things difficult for me, so he has plenty of time to deal with this case.
The opportunity is right in front of you; all you have to do is seize it!
Link straightened his tie and grinned.
"Okay, Daniel, I agree."
Like Link before him, he was a shy and reserved pragmatist, but awkward in socializing and expressing himself.
