Law America, the Devil's Agent

Chapter 52 I want to see him? He's coming to see me!

"The attitude of the apology..."

Quinnil's lips moved a few times as he murmured the same thing over and over.

"What do you mean by that?"

The legal assistant stood there stunned, seemingly a little confused.

Link glanced sideways:

"Didn't I already tell you what I meant?"

Quinnil narrowed his eyes, his mind racing through memories...

Finally, he recalled the scene at the end of yesterday's press conference:

Link walked down from the side of the podium, squeezed through the crowd, and stood in front of him to say those words.

He initially thought it was just the victor's mockery, a pose posed in front of the camera.

But now, seeing it in Link's eyes again, he realized...

He wasn't being sarcastic; he was serious.

"Are you here to see our lawyer, Omir?"

"I want to see him?"

Link put down his glass, leaned forward slightly, and the smile on his lips was devoid of warmth.

I think it's him who wants to see me!

My relationship with Attorney Omir is that of a completely equal defendant and plaintiff!

Even now, with the situation so volatile, he's still putting on airs and asking you to come and relay his message.

Are you telling me I didn't see that hidden earpiece in your ear and that pinhole camera on your chest?

I think he's not in a hurry at all, is he, Quinnir?

Quinnil's face instantly turned extremely ugly.

He opened his mouth, wanting to say something to salvage the situation, but after his brain raced for a few moments, he realized that no explanation could hold water.

Damn!

He cursed silently in his heart.

That Link!

He knew from the beginning that this so-called "private visit" was a monitored test.

This person's grasp of the situation and his sense of the opponent's psychology are so precise that they are chilling!

Quiner took a deep breath, burying all the embarrassment and frustration deep inside.

"Please wait a moment, I still need to contact Mr. Omir about this..."

"No need. I should be the one to meet with Mr. Link in person."

A voice came from the corridor outside the private room.

The voice was not loud, but carried an elegant tone.

Upon hearing that familiar voice, Quinil turned around in astonishment.

Link and his three teammates also looked up at the same time, heading in the direction of the sound.

A middle-aged man in his early forties was standing at the door of the private room. He had brown hair, blue eyes, and a well-defined face. He was wearing a silver-gray suit that was very well-tailored.

It was Omir Sadic.

"I'm so sorry, my subordinates acted on their own initiative."

I was also very busy with official duties and just got here.

He casually put the headset and camera on Quinnir into his pocket and smiled slightly at Link.

That smile was gentle and dignified, as if the embarrassment of being exposed by Link had never happened.

"Mr. Link doesn't mind, does he?"

Link looked at the smiling tiger in front of him, and a smile also spread across his face.

He stood up from his chair, straightened his loose tie, took two steps toward the door, and gave a slight greeting.

"Never mind."

Mr. O'Mill is a top lawyer at one of the Big Five law firms, extremely busy, yet he still found time to meet with me...

It's my pleasure.

Omir laughed and shook hands with Link.

Their hands briefly clasped in the air, their eyes met, like two chess players beginning a silent contest before taking their seats at opposite ends of the chessboard.

"Attorney Link is too modest."

From the Winthrop case to the Nathaniel Hawthorne case, in just a few weeks, your name has become known to everyone in our Philadelphia legal community.

Even some of our staff have started studying your court appearance videos.

This is hardly the usual treatment.

"Mr. Omir, you flatter me. I was just lucky to do the right things at the right time."

The two exchanged a few more pleasantries, talking about everything from the Philadelphia weather to recent legal reviews, and then to the upcoming Philadelphia Bar Association annual meeting.

Every word was polite and appropriate, and every smile was just right, as if it were an old friend reminiscing at a charity gala.

But everyone in the private room knew that this was the two men's final warm-up before their official confrontation.

Finally, the smile on Omir's face faded, and he spoke in a more direct tone:

"I think we both have some things to say, don't we, Attorney Link?"

"Of course we have things to talk about."

Link's response was equally straightforward:

"Then let's do it here."

"Okay, right here."

Omir tilted his head and gestured with his chin toward Quinil.

Quinil immediately understood, bowed respectfully to the two of them, quickly left the private room, and gently closed the door behind him.

Link turned around and walked to his three team members.

Without any prompting, Benny closed his laptop, Celine put away her phone, and Cona put down her wine glass. The three of them began packing their things in perfect unison.

Just as Kona was about to leave, Link reached out and stopped her. Kona stopped in her tracks, puzzled.

"I wanted to talk to you more today and stay a little longer, but it seems that's not going to happen."

Let's meet again next time.

After Link finished speaking, he gave her a big hug.

Kona was taken aback by his sudden hug, and her cheeks flushed instantly.

But the next moment, she felt something hard being quietly inserted into her palm...

It was a folded strip of paper.

Link's voice, lowered so only she could hear, rang in her ears:

"Contact this number and give us your location. Then wait."

Then, he gently pushed Kona out of the private room.

The door closed gently behind her.

……

Only the two of them remained in the private room.

Omir sat down on the other side of the long table, no longer concealing his imposing presence, and then looked at Link with scrutinizing eyes.

"Attorney Link, to put it bluntly, I admire you."

You went from an orphan with no family background who relied on scholarships and loans to finish law school to where you are today, standing at the center of some of the most high-profile cases in Philadelphia's legal community.

Such a story of overcoming adversity is a plus on any law firm partner's resume.

With an excellent GPA and outstanding academic record during his undergraduate studies, he ultimately gained admission to Temple Law School!

Then, during my master's studies, I relied on extreme frugality and part-time work to support my studies. I had no background, no family connections, and only a Chinese-American girlfriend who was also struggling alone in the United States, supporting me.

You paid rent together, took out student loans together, and struggled together in this city.

I really admire him.

Link's expression remained unchanged.

He neither admitted nor denied it, but simply looked at Omir indifferently.

"The background check was indeed very thorough, Attorney O'Mill."

The habits cultivated by big law firms are truly excellent.

"You flatter me, Mr. Link, but the beautiful lady beside you now—"

Miss Kona from just now.

She seems quite different from one of the women we interviewed. It seems Attorney Link has quite a rich romantic life.

"So, can you stop spouting this nonsense, Mr. Omir?"

Are you trying to remind me of something? Or... is this some instruction from that gentleman?

Omir's expression stiffened slightly.

He clearly hadn't expected Link to skip all the buildup and go straight to the real intention behind the hint.

"I don't understand what you're talking about, Attorney Link."

My role is to represent the families of the four victims in this case!

"Alright, Omir, stop keeping me in suspense."

Was it the man behind you who sensed the crisis and rushed you here?

Some people at Philadelphia General Hospital have gotten out of his control:

Alan Morrison didn't know beforehand that he was going to work with the Blood Hands, did he? So he panicked.

He is not afraid of competitors, but he is afraid that his own people will mess things up.

And you're sitting here now, cleaning up this mess for him."

Link shrugged:

"I am deeply sorry for this. What was supposed to be an ironclad case, handled by Attorney Omir, has been ruined by the incompetence of a bunch of idiots."

Omir remained silent for a long time.

His pompous tone and feigned demeanor peeled away layer by layer in silence, leaving only a weary middle-aged lawyer sitting in a chair, his shoulders relaxed.

He breathed a long sigh of relief.

"Alright, I don't want to say too much to smart people."

The man was indeed a little angry, but he still didn't intend to do anything out of line.

He wanted to follow the rules.

Link then smiled and chimed in, "It's normal for that gentleman to be angry about this."

Tell me, what rules and conditions does he intend to use to change the direction of my next debate?
