The night was dark and desolate.

Not long after Shen Mo left the palace, he arrived at the old prince's residence, where he saw Zhou Kui and the others standing at the door, each of them looking very unwell.

As soon as he appeared, everyone surrounded him.

"Lord Supervisor!" Chu Juji stepped forward and said solemnly, "One of our brothers, who is at the mid-stage of the Blood Transformation Realm, has gone missing."

"Explain in detail."

Shen Mo glanced around and saw that one person was indeed missing. It was a man with centipede-like knife scars on his face, nicknamed "Scarface".

Chu Juji then explained it in detail.

He hired a hundred people to tidy up the dwelling and bought all kinds of new furniture so that the brothers could move in that day.

Nothing strange happened during the day, but things were different at night.

The group was drinking together when they repeatedly heard a woman crying outside. After investigating but finding nothing, they continued drinking. During this time, the man nicknamed Scarface went out to urinate and never returned.

Chu Juji and Zhou Kui were loyal enough to search the place again, even though they were reluctant, before sending someone to the palace to report the news.

"How could a living person simply vanish into thin air?"

Shen Mo shook his head, took the torch from the person next to him, and said calmly, "Old Zhou, Old Chu, you two come with me to investigate."

Chu Juji swallowed hard, hesitated for a moment, and then nodded.

Zhou Kui muttered, "Master, this place is truly eerie!"

"You're kidding me! If you're scared, stay where you are and wait for me to come out." Shen Mo glanced at him, and Zhou Kui was instantly enraged, coldly snorting, "I'm not scared! Even if my head falls off, it'll just be a scar the size of a bowl!"

Immediately afterwards, the three of them entered the Prince's Palace again.

The palace under the cover of night is indeed completely different from the daytime, and having been abandoned for so many years, it does feel oppressive and eerie.

Even the sound of the wind was as chilling as a baby crying.

Shen Mo searched outwards from the place where Zhou Kui and the others were drinking, skipping over conspicuous places and focusing on those secluded locations that were less likely to be noticed.

Half an hour later.

Shen Mo's eyes suddenly narrowed, and he pointed ahead, asking, "Have you searched that well?"

Chu Juji shook his head.

A huge rock was placed over the well, which had been abandoned for who knows how many years. No one ever thought that Scar would fall into the well.

Shen Mo stepped forward and shone his torch upon the boulder, immediately noticing signs that it had been moved. He frowned and said, "Zhou Kui, move the boulder!"

"Yes, sir!"

Zhou Kui spat twice into his palms, then assumed a horse stance, hugged the boulder, and roared angrily.

He picked up the well-pressing stone, which weighed over a thousand pounds, and threw it aside.

Shen Mo peered into the well and saw that it was pitch black inside. The torch's light was limited and could not reach that depth at all.

He held his breath and focused intently, sensing faint breathing sounds below, and then said:

"You all wait for me where you are."

He said, gripping the edge of the well and sliding down.

After a few breaths, it landed steadily.

The abandoned well wasn't deep; a thick layer of dust and fallen leaves had accumulated at its dry bottom. Scarface had his eyes closed as if he were asleep.

Shen Mo tucked him under his arm, leaped up, and lightly stepped on the well wall, instantly soaring several meters high. With a few jumps, he flipped out of the abandoned well and placed Scarface on the ground.

"What impressive agility, Master!"

Zhou Kui couldn't help but praise him, and then slapped Scarface hard on the buttocks.

Snapped--

Scarface jolted awake, his face contorted in terror. "A ghost! Don't kill me!"

"Look closely, it's me!" Zhou Kui grabbed his collar and said irritably, "Because of you, we've been through a lot tonight. Tell me what happened."

"Oh, what's the Chief Supervisor doing here too?"

Scarface scratched his head and explained, "I remember I drank too much and needed to pee, so I went to the corner of the yard to urinate. As soon as I turned around after I finished, I saw a female ghost dressed in white with a face as pale as paper. I didn't even have time to scream before I passed out. I don't know what happened after that..."

Chu Juji whispered, "Master, something's strange!"

Obviously, if she were truly a vicious female ghost, why would she go to such lengths to put someone at the bottom of a well to fend for themselves?

Shen Mo didn't speak, but instead activated the Myriad Gu Undying Body technique, pressing his palm against Scarface's chest and drawing in forcefully.

A cloud of pink dust was drawn out and condensed in the palm of the hand.

"This is?"

Zhou Kui leaned forward, ready to examine the area closely, when Shen Mo gently patted him, and the powder mist was completely applied to Zhou Kui.

His eyelids closed instantly, and his body involuntarily fell backward.

"This sleeping potion is so potent that even a Blood Core Realm cultivator can't resist it?"

While Shen Mo was surprised, he caught Zhou Kui who was about to fall and drew the mist out again.

Scarface was furious upon seeing this and exclaimed, "So it wasn't a female ghost after all! Someone was using sleeping pills to create a ghostly illusion!"

"This sleeping potion...it's so potent!"

Zhou Kui replied with lingering fear that the dizziness came on too quickly and too violently, leaving no time to resist.

Shen Mo nodded and said, "That so-called female ghost must be at least at the Blood Core Realm, otherwise she wouldn't be able to move the boulder pressing down on the well."

Ordinary Blood Refining Realm cultivators absolutely cannot move giant rocks unless they, like him, have mastered several body refining techniques to perfection. That would explain why the other party, after charming Scarface, quietly left with his men without anyone in the room noticing.

"Hold!"

Zhou Kui cursed and swore, "That damned female ghost made me anxious all night! She's so rude! Our West Depot only just moved in and she's already making a move. If she dares to show up again, I'll chop her up with my axe!"

Shen Mo ignored his complaints and said to Chu Juji, "I saw several skeletons in the well. Have someone go down and bring them out so that the government's coroner can come and examine them to see if they are the people who disappeared after buying the Prince's Mansion."

"Yes, ma'am."

Chu Juji immediately complied, finding people to use ropes to go down into the well and move all the remains out.

At the same time, they contacted the government's coroners.

After a busy night, the suspicions were finally confirmed: these people were indeed the missing individuals.

The rumors of the old prince's mansion being haunted were thus dispelled, and the sky had already brightened without anyone noticing.

Shen Mo treated everyone to breakfast again. As soon as they arrived at the steamed bun shop, Zhou Kui shouted, "Shopkeeper, bring... all the steamed buns!"

"All of them? Very well, please wait a moment, esteemed guests." The shopkeeper beamed with joy, finally welcoming a major customer.

The first cage was brought to Shen Mo.

Without hesitation, he picked up a piping hot bun, took a bite, and exclaimed, "Shopkeeper, these buns are great!" The buns had thin skin, generous filling, and were incredibly juicy.

"I'm not bragging! My steamed buns..."

Shen Mo knew that after saying the first half of the sentence, he would have to blow the rest. He turned his head to look elsewhere and was surprised to find that there were many more soup kitchens distributing soup on this street.

Some were marked with family names, such as one with a flag bearing the character "Liu" (柳), while others were being distributed by government officials.

He couldn't help but ask, "Shopkeeper, I don't remember there being so many soup kitchens before?"

"What you say is true, sir." The shopkeeper paused, then sighed softly, "Ever since the Jiang family's property was confiscated, other businesses have also dared to distribute porridge, and for some reason, the government has also started to set up porridge stalls everywhere."

"It's good that the Jiang family died. This way, many fewer refugees will freeze or starve to death this winter. I heard it's all thanks to a eunuch named Shen Mo. Although he's a castrated man who will never have children, he did a brilliant job!"

He had barely finished speaking when he suddenly noticed that the other dozen or so people were all staring at him with rather unfriendly looks.

Just then, a woman's voice suddenly rang out from the street: "Shen Mo, what a coincidence, you're here to eat steamed buns too?"
