A lowly soldier becomes king, I slaughter my way through the late Tang Dynasty!

Chapter 131 Training Soldiers, But Where Are the Soldiers?

Two days later.

A troop of Khitan cavalry arrived in the northern suburbs of Yu County, covered in dust.

The leader was named Xiao Guo.

He was a general of the Khitan Empress's clan.

He led his men and observed the area around Yu County for a long time.

"Are you sure Li Rui is gone?"

"Sure."

"Let's go into town."

Although the scouts had clearly discovered that Li Rui had left Wei County two days ago.

But Xiao Guo remained extremely vigilant!

After all, Li Rui's reputation extends far beyond Hebei.

Xiao Guo had not forgotten how Yelü Balide, the king of the Yishi tribe, died!

Who cut down His Majesty the Emperor's banner?

Li Rui also had a terrifying reputation within the Khitan!

Despite the presence of many fierce Khitan generals, all regarded Li Rui as prey.

Killing Li Rui will bring you unparalleled honor!

But Xiao Guo was self-aware.

He wouldn't want to provoke Li Rui.

Xiao Guo only breathed a sigh of relief after entering Wei County.

Upon arriving at the government office, they found that Prefect Yuan Jia was tied to a pillar and was on the verge of death!

Xiao Guo frowned and ordered someone to put Yuan Jia down.

Yuan Jia was very weak, hungry and thirsty.

He asked for flatbread and water, and then wolfed it down.

Xiao Guo asked in broken Chinese.

"Did Li Rui tie you up?"

Yuan Jia gasped for breath and cried out.

"Yes! It was Li Rui! He originally wanted to kill me, but I knelt down and begged him for a long time."

He spared my life only because I had helped him with things these past few days!

"Thank goodness you arrived early, otherwise I would have died of thirst if I had been tied up for a few more days!"

Xiao Guo frowned slightly.

Something feels off!

But Yuan Jia's hungry and thirsty appearance was undeniable.

He had no choice but to walk to the door and write a message on the animal skin he carried with him.

"Prefect Yuan Jia surrendered to Li Rui under duress and was only lucky to survive."

Yuan Jia squinted and saw that the Khitan soldiers were not keeping a close watch on him.

He knew then that his strategy had worked.

He tied himself to a pillar and went hungry for two whole days. Although he suffered, he was not suspected.

Yuan Jia ate something and gradually recovered.

"Aren't you going to pursue Li Rui?"

Xiao Guo's face trembled slightly.

Pursuit?

Logically speaking...

It is easy for cavalry to achieve results when pursuing infantry.

But...

Who made the opposing team's captain named Li Rui?

Xiao Guo coughed lightly.

"I was only ordered to support Yu County, and I did not receive orders to pursue them."

Yuan Jia chuckled inwardly and cupped his hands in greeting.

"Since that's the case, and you're all tired from your journey, why don't you rest for the night?"

Xiao Guo has no objection.

Wait until dawn the next day.

A few miles north of Feihu Pass.

Li Rui shook his head.

"It seems the Khitans don't intend to pursue us; they're being cautious."

Chen Xiaoniu is quite a pity.

"We worked all night, digging horse traps and laying tripwires, and the Khitans actually chickened out!"

That's what they say.

The best-case scenario is to avoid a fight.

Li Rui knew very well that the new recruits of the Restoration Army were not yet prepared to confront the Khitan cavalry head-on.

If we insist on fighting, although we have a chance of winning, it will inevitably come with huge casualties.

"No need for an ambush. Let's get through Flying Fox Pass and go home as soon as possible."

Upon hearing this, everyone cheered with joy.

……

A few days ago.

In the new recruits' camp north of Boling County.

Li Yin, along with Luo Yunhui, Niu Ben, and others, were in a daze.

Zhao Pu was somewhat embarrassed and stayed by his side.

Although Li Zhiyan was a woman, as the daughter of a military commander, she was allowed to sit in the military camp.

The quiet atmosphere lasted for a long time.

Li Yin then spread his hands and said.

"Training, training, but where are the soldiers?"

Upon hearing this, Zhao Pu became even more embarrassed!

"Ahem, General, the soldiers... naturally they are taken out for training."

Li Yin stared wide-eyed and said again.

"Yes! You said the same thing five days ago!"

Luo Yunhui said through gritted teeth, his face grim.

"County Magistrate Zhao, the military commander and we have been in this simple military camp for five days!"

Li Youxiang said it was for troop training, but in the past five days, we haven't seen a single soldier. That really doesn't make sense!

Zhao Pu's current official position is Assistant County Magistrate of Boling County.

Seeing that the military commander and the chief secretary were getting impatient, they began to interrogate him.

Zhao Pu simply shrugged.

"I have no idea."

boom!

Luo Yunhui slammed his fist on the table and roared angrily.

"What do you mean you don't know?! More than four thousand people! Li Rui neither consulted the commander-in-chief nor reported to the court!"

He just vanished without a trace, along with over four thousand armored soldiers!?

What is he trying to do?! Is he planning a rebellion?!

The voice just fell.

Zhao Pu hadn't spoken yet.

Niu Ben then said unhappily.

"Hey, Luo, what are you saying? Zangfeng was just training troops, how did that become a rebellion?"

Luo Yunhui was furious.

"Training troops? Where are the troops?! At least they should report their whereabouts to the commander-in-chief!"

To put it bluntly, even if Li Rui were to surrender to the Khitan right now with over four thousand armored soldiers, wouldn't he still need to send a message?

Upon hearing this, Niu Ben was immediately enraged!

"You, surnamed Luo! What do you mean by surrendering to the Khitans? While Zang Feng was fighting to the death with the Khitans, you were still enjoying a comfortable life in the rear of Dingzhou!"

Luo Yunhui was also furious!

"Don't bring up the war. How am I enjoying myself? I haven't slept for days and nights to gather supplies!"

It was clear that the two, one civil and one military, were about to clash.

Li Yin reprimanded him with a stern face.

"Shut up, all of you!"

The two exchanged a cold snort and sat down.

Li Yin stared at Zhao Pu, his expression also showing some displeasure.

It wasn't that he was afraid of Li Rui; he simply disappeared without a word, leading over four thousand armored soldiers.

It's simply because Li Rui always manages to do some daring things!

What Li Yin feared was that Li Rui would act rashly and lead four thousand armored soldiers into danger!

At that time, if we really encountered danger.

His commander was caught off guard and couldn't even mobilize troops for support.

"Magistrate Zhao, tell the truth."

Li Yin spoke in a serious tone, carrying an unquestionable authority.

However, Zhao Pu simply shrugged.

"General, I really didn't know!"

Li Rui only talked to him about training, but didn't go into details.

Just then.

A minor official, panting, burst into the house.

"General, this is an official document from the Prefect of Yizhou."

Luo Yunhui took a look and immediately frowned.

"It was written twenty days ago, why is it only being delivered today?"

The minor official was immediately wronged.

"This... The governor of Yizhou was unaware that the commander-in-chief was inspecting the regional military governorships, so he directly sent the official document to the commander-in-chief's residence."

After receiving the official document, I rushed over from Anxi County without stopping, and that's what caused the delay.

Upon hearing this, Luo Yunhui didn't know what to say.

Because Li Yin went on tour without notifying anyone.

Li Yin opened the official document and glanced at it.

In an instant!

His gaunt old face was instantly filled with astonishment!

"This...this..."

Seeing the general's expression, everyone was itching to see what was written in the official document.

But no one dared to go closer to look.

Li Zhiyan, on the other hand, has never been one to follow any rules.

She ran directly behind Li Yin and glanced at him with her almond-shaped eyes.

She glanced up and down, and immediately exclaimed in astonishment.
