I, Lord of Prayer

In a hazy state, Zhou Chen heard faint voices nearby. He drowsily opened his eyes and saw the familiar ceiling and room furnishings. (Google search reading)

Why is it this hospital room again...?

Is this a perverse sense of humor from the medical department?

He rubbed his throbbing temples; his head and back were throbbing with pain. Being hit by an air cannon at close range was truly unpleasant.

At this moment, Jiang Che pushed open the door and entered. Seeing that Zhou Chen had woken up, she was slightly taken aback. "Your attending physician just said that you wouldn't wake up until at least tomorrow. How is your recovery?"

Zhou Chen sighed, "My head hurts, and my whole body feels like it's falling apart... Did you come here specifically to see me?"

"It's on my way home from get off work."

"Alright, at least he can come and visit..." Zhou Chen sat up in bed and asked, "Did you find anything useful during the interrogation?"

Jiang Che pulled over a chair next to the bed and sat down, taking out his portable tablet for work from his bag.

"Wait a minute, haven't I seen this scene before?" Zhou Chen suddenly had a strong sense of déjà vu.

"If I remember correctly, the last time was six days ago."

Jiang Che gave a casual reply, pulled up the task report, and handed him the tablet.

"You did a great job this time. Fina Blanche is indeed the Eternal Flame's butler in the Golden Bamboo region. You've caught a big fish."

She was adopted by fanatical followers of the Eternal Flame at the age of four, and by twelve she was already committing murder, arson, and other heinous crimes in secret. At fourteen, she officially became an Ascended One, and at seventeen she was sent to infiltrate Golden Bamboo. ♔🎄 ➅➈ѕᑌχ.𝓒𝓞Μ ✎☠

Over the past decade, Jin Zhu has been secretly responsible for many of the missing persons cases.

"She just goes out and kills people for fun?" Zhou Chen was surprised. The Abyss Cultists were indeed a bunch of lunatics.

"It's cannibalism," Jiang Che corrected.

"What??"

Zhou Chen was utterly astonished and incredulous. "Eating people?"

"The Abyss Cult worships abyssal creatures. To abyssal creatures, aren't humans just food? As their followers, we should naturally also enjoy 'holy communion'."

Zhou Chen lowered his head, frowned, and silently flipped through the interrogation records.

It's unclear what interrogation methods the Stars used, but they dug up Fina's past completely, even describing in detail what she saw when she was five or six years old participating in the Eternal Flame "Festival," as if her entire life experience had been turned into words.

Such a meticulously crafted project reveals a sin so profound it could not be fully described on ten pages.

This also allowed Zhou Chen to gain a deeper understanding of the true nature of the Abyss Cult.

Evil, fanaticism, subversion of everything, abandoning all that it means to be human, choosing the abyss of faith, embracing hell...

"Besides that, she's been secretly proselytizing all these years. Guess where she's had the biggest influence?"

Zhou Chen's mind raced, and he almost instantly came up with the answer—

"—Jinzhu University?"

Jiang Che nodded: "During her four years at university, she secretly recruited more than twenty people into the cult, and those twenty-odd people would then recruit even more. Over the years, the Eternal Flame has probably become quite powerful. (-_-) (-_-)

Especially at Jinzhu University, perhaps one of your former professors, classmates, or even the cafeteria cook might secretly be a fanatical follower of the Eternal Flame.

"Is it that serious?"

Zhou Chen never imagined that his university would become a pyramid scheme den for the Abyss Cult: "I'm usually well-informed at university, how come I haven't heard anything about this?"

"They're not stupid, why would they go around spreading their ideas all over the world?"

Jiang Che said calmly, "On the contrary, they will hide themselves. Only after carefully selecting their missionary targets will they cautiously and secretly contact them. Otherwise, do you think a well-educated, normal person would believe in that kind of thing?"

Zhou Chen shook his head. Anyone with a normal brain would call the police immediately after being proselytized.

"Ninety-nine percent of the world's cults do not reveal their ideology from the outset. Instead, they unconditionally give their followers everything they want: money, power, health... satisfying all their needs and gradually luring them into the abyss of desire. By the time they want more, it is too late to turn back."

Zhou Chen nodded in agreement, and then he heard Jiang Che say, "So, for the anniversary celebration of Jinzhu University in five days, I need you to find an opportunity to infiltrate the Eternal Flame."

"???"

Zhou Chen looked completely bewildered.

What? What's going on? What's happening?

Another mission?

"Sister Jiang, Sister Che... Look at me, I'm hospitalized every few days, and I'm even a level 10 disabled person. I'm in such a terrible state. Shouldn't we reduce the frequency of my missions? Our Stars Club has other people, why do you always focus on me, the intern operator..." Zhou Chen said with a bitter expression, trying to gain sympathy.

"Yes, there are indeed a few Jinzhu University graduates in the Stars Club."

Jiang Che looked at him calmly, "But who told you to be so suitable?"

"Outstanding ability, first-class acting skills... By the way, your acting skills in this mission were unanimously recognized by the entire command staff. They even want you to perform at this year's gala."

"More importantly, most people know about your incomplete soul. Do you think the Eternal Flame might use this opportunity to connect with you and develop you into an inside agent for the Council of Stars?"

"..."

So, are we about to start playing Infernal Affairs?

What is this? The organization wants me to be a traitor?

"You mean, the Eternal Flame knows about me? But my affairs are confined to the Council of Stars..."

At this point, Zhou Chen paused, then unconsciously lowered his voice:

"Is there a mole within the Stars?"

"We found one. He works in the Civil Service Department and became a follower of the Eternal Flame four years ago. He still maintains close contact with the followers at Jinzhu University."

Jiang Che reached out and swiped down on the tablet, quickly finding an ID photo.

"Xu Lingling...a liberal arts student, never heard of her."

Zhou Chen looked at the information carefully and found that when this person was a sophomore, his family suddenly suffered a misfortune and his shopping mall was on the verge of bankruptcy. He struggled to survive for more than half a year, and just when he was about to give up, he was unexpectedly spotted by a big entrepreneur who invested a large sum of money and managed to revive the business.

In retrospect, that must have been the "power" displayed by the Eternal Flame.

Jiang Che explained, "Apart from special operations teams and other special departments, no one in other departments knows that you have become an Ascended Being."

So to outsiders, you're just an unlucky guy who lost half his soul in an accident while interning at the Stars Society and is now lying there waiting to die, desperately needing a way to save your life.

Given the style of Eternal Flame, there's a 70% chance they'll contact you at the school anniversary celebration.

Of course, if you don't want to go on a mission, I won't force you.

Zhou Chen immediately breathed a sigh of relief, but then heard Jiang Che add:

"—If you don't want the Star Mango."

"..."

Zhou Chen's first reaction was that Jiang Che was threatening him, but he quickly dismissed the idea. Her real meaning was probably that this mission was related to the shipment stolen by "Eternal Flame"!
