Simultaneous Transmigration: We Level Up Alone Across Multiple Worlds

Chapter 55 An Unexpected Encounter, A Subtle Atmosphere

Ethan stood at the village entrance and saw the tragic scene before him.

Half of the church roof was torn off.

Tiles were broken in the mud, and the cross leaned against the door frame; no one bothered to help it up.

At the village entrance, several thick tree trunks were uprooted and laid haphazardly together, covered with branches and straw to form temporary sheds.

The injured lay under the shed; some were groaning, while others had already fainted.

Brown hair.

The hair seeped through the gaps in the shed's frame, binding the tree trunk like ropes.

The owner of the hair stood in front of the shed, thin and frail, with a blood-soaked bandage wrapped around his left arm.

Zanze.

Why is she here at this time?

Ethan didn't think much of it and selectively ignored her, walking directly towards the shed.

Silently activating the eye obtained from the Origin Space, it's called... Twilight Star Eye?

Everything was laid bare before him. Zanze, as a first-level mage, possessed immense magical power, but his arm was injured. Ethan Chen had no intention of being executed on the spot.

Zanze seemed to sense something and turned around to look back and forth.

Her face was delicate, and her expression was indifferent. Her gaze swept over Ethan Chen, noting his mask, monk's robe, and medicine box, before settling back on his face.

Why is a monk wearing a mask?

Zanze frowned slightly.

"You are a monk."

Ethan stopped in front of the shed.

"My name is Ethan Chen, from the Rigel Church. The young man just informed me that this place needs treatment."

Zanze looked at him for a while, but couldn't see through the mask that had been modified by Shenji Bailian. He nodded slightly and pointed with a strand of hair.

"The wounded are inside."

There were seven people lying in the shack, or rather, only seven people survived.

Three were lying on the straw mats on the ground, and four were sitting against the wall.

Claw marks tore the flesh open, revealing a middle-aged man whose entire right leg, from calf to knee, was burned, the skin charred and cracked, oozing a pale yellow liquid. An old woman lay on her side on a straw mat, breathing shallowly and rapidly, a wound on her chest running from her collarbone to her ribs, the cloth already soaked with blood.

Ethan squatted down in front of the middle-aged man.

Place your palm above the man's calf.

The goddess's magical warm yellow light seeped from her palm, covering the charred skin, while wisps of black energy emerged from the edges of the wounds and dissipated.

Zanze stood at the entrance of the shed, neither coming in nor leaving.

Her magical perception covered the entire attacked village, seemingly... just a routine patrol.

Ethan shook his head slightly, not thinking much of it.

Her movements quickened, and when she was treating the last middle-aged woman who only had some minor injuries, she grabbed Ethan Chen's sleeve.

"That mage is also injured. Could you please take a look at her first?"

Ethan looked in the direction she pointed.

Zanze stood in the twilight outside the shed, the cloth wrapped around her left arm already soaked with blood. Her gaze fell on the remnants of the two demon corpses in the distant field, her expression indifferent.

Ethan hesitated for a moment, but still agreed to the woman's request, without asking her to give up anything.

As Ethan Chen stood up, he casually tossed out a warm yellow light that instantly healed the woman's injuries, and then walked towards Zanze.

"My lord, all the civilians have been healed. Do you need anything?"

Zanze turned his head.

His gaze lingered on Ethan Chen's mask for a moment before he awkwardly looked away.

"Then I'll have to trouble you."

Ethan squatted down in front of her.

He lifted her left arm with his right hand and gently hooked the outer strip of cloth around his left little finger.

Beneath the cloth strip was hair, brown strands wrapped around the wound like bandages.

The wound stretched from my wrist to my elbow. It wasn't too deep, but the edges were uneven, indicating that it had been swept across the side by a demon's claws.

Most of the blood had congealed and was stuck to the hair.

Ethan considered that Zanze was already exhausted from protecting the village, so expending a little more magic wouldn't hurt.

He then held his palm above the wound and began to chant silently in his heart.

"With the gentle light of God, cleanse all defilement and soothe the lamb's fear and pain..."

The goddess's magic is activated.

A vibrant pale green light seeped from the palm of his hand, covering the torn skin.

The redness and swelling around the wound edges subsided from both ends toward the middle, and the torn skin and flesh rejoined.

The healing process was slower than when he usually treated villagers, but the effect far surpassed that of ordinary healing magic. Ethan counted his breaths in his mind.

In Mu Xingtong's vision, Zanze's magical detection was sweeping across his body with a regular rhythm; at this moment, he could only pin his hopes on the mask.

After all, Ethan had never been exposed to human magic before, so he naturally couldn't do magic that could conceal his aura.

The wound has healed.

"Alright, sir."

Zanze looked down at his smooth left arm.

Suddenly he raised his head.

Those brown eyes, peering through the eyeholes of the mask, met his deep blue pupils.

"Your goddess magic is very good."

Ethan Chen stood up, nodded, and turned back into the shed.

As time passed, dusk settled below the ridgeline.

The villagers lit a bonfire in an open space next to the church ruins.

The firelight illuminated the half-collapsed church walls, casting long shadows of the toppled stone pillars.

Someone cooked a large pot of wheat porridge and distributed it to everyone, covering themselves with old blankets that had been salvaged from the ruins.

Ethan sat on the church threshold, took half a loaf of bread from his medicine box, and stared at the campfire.

The matter of Oak Village is over.

We'll leave as soon as it's light.

Go back to Rigel to apply for a church recommendation letter, then try to find the Goddess Stele. As for that level one mage, it's best to never run into her again in this lifetime.

A shadow suddenly appeared in front of him.

I looked up.

Zanze stood two steps away from him, his hair cascading down to his waist like a waterfall, the moonlight casting a faint, cold glow on his brown strands.

"I am Zanze. A first-class mage of the Continental Magic Association."

His voice remained unhurried and calm. Ethan swallowed his bread, trying his best to maintain a composed expression under his mask.

"Ethan Chen, a monk at the Lijer Church."

"You're not a native of Rigel."

Ethan paused for a moment, then put down the remaining half of the bread in his hand.

"I've lived elsewhere before. I came to Rigel ten years ago."

Zanze nodded and did not ask any further questions.

She sat down on the other side of the church threshold.

The two were about a person's distance apart, and the moonlight cast the shadows of the stone pillars of the church ruins obliquely between them.

Ethan could sense her magical perception, which covered the entire open space surrounding the church ruins.

"There aren't many monks around here," Zanze's voice sounded soft against the backdrop of the campfire.

"Even fewer people can treat more than a dozen seriously injured people in one afternoon."

"Could it be considered that I've won the favor of the goddess?"

Ethan didn't want to talk too much about Goddess Magic in front of the mage, as Goddess Magic was known for its effectiveness against demons.

A demon who possesses goddess magic, exposed to human eyes, can only be said to have no risk of survival.

Zanze did not ask any more questions about the goddess's magic.

The campfire burned for a while.

The crackling sound of the firewood splitting filled the silence between the two.

"The number of remaining demons migrating south from the northern plateau has been increasing over the past six months. The association is deploying more patrols in towns along the route."

Zanze noticed Ethan's wariness of her and further explained her purpose.

"Tomorrow, I'm leaving for the Northern Branch."

Ethan nodded but didn't reply.

He understood the implied meaning in those words, but he had no intention of going to the Magicians' Association to die.

A gentle breeze blew by, and Zanze's hair fluttered gently in the still air.

"I've already spoken with the young man who brought the message."

Ethan's fingers tightened slightly on his knee.

"Your goddess magic is quite good."

His tone remained calm, but what he said sent chills down Ethan's spine.

When did you talk to that young man?

Was it before or after he treated her arm?

Zanze turned his head, his brown eyes looking directly at him.

"Twenty gold coins a month."

Ethan was struggling internally. Even after practicing medicine for so many years, he had only managed to save up less than thirteen gold coins!

"Come with me back to the Northern Branch to record which Goddess magic you've learned. You can leave anytime after we get to the branch, and I'll give you an extra twenty gold coins then."

Ethan turned slightly to the side, looking intently at the 'rich woman' in front of him.

How much is your monthly salary?

"That's not your question."

Ethan Chen did not look away from the intense gaze, while Zanze turned his head slightly and began to explain.

"Travel expenses for the Northern Branch..."

For the first time, there was a slight fluctuation in her tone.

"We can't use it all up every year."

Ethan Chen knew very well that once this was done, he could live a carefree life for at least a long time.

But this isn't about money.

Although the Northern Branch is not the headquarters of the Continental Magic Association.

There are at most a few more mages of the same rank in the branch; it's impossible for them to happen to run into an old monster who has lived for thousands of years.

Ethan looked up and gazed at her through the eye holes of his mask.

"Okay, let's do it!"

Seeing that his goal had been achieved, Zanze immediately got up and left.

Ethan sat on the threshold, the passion he had been fueled by money gradually fading. The campfire crackled and burned, casting long and short shadows of the church ruins.
