Chapter 383 Sianweistein, Flesh and Blood Weakness, Mechanical Ascension
Nick Fury walked to the holographic table and pulled up an external scan of Blackwatch headquarters.
The building is clearly visible in ordinary optical images, but on electromagnetic spectrum and energy field scans, it appears as a perfectly regular blank space.
It was as if someone had covered that area with a perfectly smooth mirror, and all detection methods were gently deflected the moment they touched the edge.
"Like this." Fury stared at the blank space.
"He stood there, doing nothing wrong, yet we couldn't even tell if he was human."
Natasha asked, "Should I contact him again?"
Fury was silent for a moment, then shook his head: "Don't act rashly."
"The universal serum has caused a sensation around the world."
"I'm worried that Father Shen Jue might take other actions."
"What if Father Shen Jue never has any problems?" Natasha asked.
Fury glanced at her.
"That was the most intractable crisis of my career," he whispered.
"Because by then, no one can predict what kind of monster human society will become."
Meanwhile, at this moment, by the floor-to-ceiling windows on the top floor of the Blackwatch headquarters.
After finishing his work in the lab, Shen Jue took a cup of hot coffee to the window.
The view of New York City outside the window was bustling and vibrant, with people queuing day and night to buy the universal serum.
Next to Shen Jue's office, Quicksilver, sealed in Time Amber, became part of the office's decoration.
This speedster's mind and consciousness were still stuck at the moment Shen Jue broke into his speed domain.
Only after nearly eternal time has passed can this speedster spend almost a second in the real universe.
"Wanda, you're really good at enduring things."
"Has no one tried to take the younger brother away yet?"
Shen Jue sighed, "They really know how to endure."
"Was it because of my good reputation that she had some patience?"
"Father," Doushabao's voice came from all around the office, "Wanda isn't as calm as you say."
"I have hacked into network servers in countries all over the world, and the Scarlet Witch is anxiously wondering where to find reinforcements."
"She was even considering seeking Magneto's help."
As the sound of red bean buns fell, the holographic projection on the side wall of the office silently lit up.
The footage is from a surveillance camera in an old town area of Bucharest; the resolution is low and the color tone is grayish.
Wanda stood in the doorway of a semi-basement apartment, wearing an old, dark red coat with frayed edges.
Her long, reddish-brown hair was not tied up as usual, but was loosely draped over her shoulders, with a few strands sticking to her forehead, clearly indicating that it had not been styled for a long time.
Wanda paced back and forth, her steps sometimes fast and sometimes slow, her heels clicking rapidly on the stone pavement.
Every few steps, she would stop, her fingers twisting the hem of her dress hanging at her side, then she would continue walking as if driven by some thought.
Suddenly, she stopped and glanced at the surveillance equipment.
In the next frame, the surveillance footage is completely empty.
Only a fine dust, stirred up by the wind, remained on the stone path, swirling silently.
"He possesses both the X gene and the talent for chaos magic," Shen Jue exclaimed.
"With such keen intuition, this Scarlet Witch's combat strength, with just a little training, could rank her among the top on Earth."
"Ding!"
There was a knock on Shen Jue's office door.
"Come in," Shen Jue replied.
The door slid open to both sides.
Dr. Lizard walked at the front, looking much younger than before. He was no longer the frail middle-aged man he once was, but rather energetic, as if he had found a purpose and a new ideal in life.
Doctor Octopus followed closely behind, his six mechanical tentacles retracting to the sides of his back, maintaining his balance with the slightest movement, no longer displaying them so ostentatiously behind him as before.
He took off his goggles and bowed respectfully to Shen Jue.
The third person was Frank Castle.
The Punisher, a notorious figure in New York, has long since joined Shen Jue's side.
He was taller than before, and the muscles in his shoulders and back stretched his black combat suit into sharp, chiseled lines.
The most obvious change was in his eyes. The brooding, violent, and seemingly volatile anger that had once been there hadn't disappeared, but it seemed to be suppressed by a colder calm.
Frank stood at the door and bowed respectfully to Shen Jue as well.
"Frank," Shen Jue turned around, leaned against the floor-to-ceiling window, and asked in a flat tone, "How are you feeling?"
Frank raised his right hand, slowly clenching and unclenching it. His movements were slow, as if he were reaffirming that every muscle and every nerve belonged to him.
"I've never felt so good," Frank said.
Shen Jue smiled and took a sip of coffee: "Show me."
Frank nodded and took a deep breath.
The next instant, his figure vanished from the spot.
A slight vibration was heard as if the air had been forcibly torn apart.
He appeared next to the holographic projection at the other end of the office, lingered for less than a fraction of a second, and then disappeared again.
Next, three steps away from the left side of the floor-to-ceiling window, in front of the bookshelf, behind Doctor Octopus, and beside Shen Jue.
After shifting several times, he returned to his original position, his posture unchanged, as if he had never moved.
The office fell silent for a moment.
"Very good." Shen Jue put down her coffee cup.
"It appears that the integration of the nervous system with the prosthetic body is higher than expected."
He looked at Doctor Octopus and Doctor Lizard.
"You two have worked hard."
Doctor Octopus said in a low voice, "The neural reflex protocol you deciphered from Quicksilver's X gene is more elegant than I imagined."
"It redefines the efficiency of the human body's perception and reaction to time windows."
Dr. Lizard continued, "With your help, artificially synthesized mechanical prosthetics can be mass-produced and adapted to ordinary human bodies."
"While it is far from reaching the level of Quicksilver himself, its displacement efficiency over short distances is already very close to the bullet time concept in science fiction movies."
Shen Jue placed the coffee cup back on the table, her gaze falling on Frank's lower back, as if she could see the silver-gray device embedded in his lumbar spine through his combat suit.
"From today onwards, this artificial prosthesis implanted in the 3rd to 5th lumbar vertebrae will be officially named 'Sianwistan'."
He walked slowly to the holographic table, swiped his finger, and brought up a set of rotating three-dimensional structural diagrams.
It was a metal spinal segment composed of countless hair-thin neural probes and microprocessors, gleaming with a cold, eerie blue light.
"In a cyberpunk world I once studied, Svenwistan is one of the most representative neuro-prosthetics," Shen Jue said calmly, as if recounting an old story.
"It is implanted in the user's spine and directly connects to the central nervous system, which can increase the nerve conduction rate to dozens of times that of a normal human in a very short time."
The holographic image changed with his words: a standard human silhouette appeared, a silver prosthetic body was embedded in the lumbar spine, and fine nerve probes spread outwards like vines, connecting with the spinal cord, brainstem, and peripheral nerves.
"Upon activation, the user's perception of time is completely reconstructed. External physical time remains unchanged, but to the user, everything appears to be in slow motion, like bullet time."
"The enemy's movements were as sluggish as solidified glue, the trajectories of bullets were clearly visible, and even the movement of air became traceable."
He paused, then looked at Frank: "Your movement just now wasn't actually because your muscles got faster, but because your nerve reflexes were far beyond the limits of ordinary people, to the point that ordinary people's vision couldn't capture your movements."
Dr. Octopus continued, "This is precisely the most ingenious aspect of the neural reflex protocol. It bypasses the traditional strengthening path of muscle building and directly reshapes the body's most fundamental weakness, namely reaction delay."
"But the side effects are equally significant," Shen Jue continued.
As the holographic image shifted, dense red warning signs appeared next to the human figure.
"First, the neural load. Every time S.A.S ...
"Secondly, there's the issue of prosthetic rejection. Without proper adaptation, the immune system in ordinary people will continuously attack the prosthetic and neural connections, leading to anything from high fever and implant necrosis to systemic infection." He glanced at Frank...
"You were able to adapt successfully because you had already experienced extreme battlefield environments, and I also performed pre-treatment to stabilize your nervous system."
"Third, and most dangerous."
Shen Jue pointed, and the holographic image magnified to a cross-section of the human brain.
"People who overly rely on this kind of prosthetic body will eventually be overwhelmed by the gap between speed and perception."
"They can no longer tolerate the normal flow of time; reality will become like a prison that is forever frozen in time."
"Anxiety, aggression, paranoia, eventually developing into cyberpsychosis."
The office was quiet for a moment.
"But don't worry, the universal serum still has a repairing effect on the side effects caused by nerve overload."
"As long as one's willpower is strong enough, it is possible to use Sianwaystein indefinitely."
Shen Jue then smiled and said, "Frank, if you want to resurrect your wife and children, then you must preserve the genes related to them."
"A perfectly intact cloned body is one of the prerequisites for a perfect resurrection."
Frank was overjoyed and bowed respectfully, saying, "Father, I will follow your will!"
Shen Jue nodded and said, "Trading with me is much more trustworthy than dealing with those roadside deities."
"Frank, you'll be the security captain of the Blackwatch Special Response Team."
"As for our usual tasks," Shen Jue said with a smile, his eyes darting around, "it's just to prevent aliens, superhumans, and gods from other dimensions and universes from forcibly attacking Earth."
Frank's eyelids twitched; he sensed that Shen Jue was not joking.
But is it too much to ask a former special forces member who has just had a prosthetic body implanted to do this?
Shen Jue seemed to have seen through Frank's thoughts, and he said with a smile, "Don't worry too much."
"I will provide you with the necessary military and technological support."
"After all, flesh and blood are weak and frail; it's better to ascend to heaven as a machine."
