Chapter 398 Entering the Teleportation Array, A Deformed Civilization
At the other end of the portal, the Chitauri commander's compound eyes suddenly emitted a multicolored glow.
It saw the human in the black robe standing atop Stark Tower, directly beneath a portal several kilometers wide, looking up at the Chitauri mothership fleet.
The vanguard of the invading army turned into white ash drifting over New York in a mere second.
At that moment, the commander sensed the black-robed human raise his head, his gaze piercing through the portal, through the array of motherships in space, through the void of space, and landing precisely on the command platform.
He's looking at it.
The commander felt a very subtle, almost negligible current creeping up from the end of the honeycomb neural interface.
That was fear, something it hadn't felt for over a hundred years since it was transformed into a biomechanical being.
"Commander," the bio-warship captain behind him signaled through the Hive Network.
"The target is approaching the portal boundary."
The commander's compound eyes flashed with a dark green light, and the computing core was rapidly performing calculations.
If this human is allowed to enter the portal, the dense formation of the mothership fleet will become its biggest weakness.
Those warships, arranged like black mountains, wouldn't have had time to disperse once attacked by Shen Jue in such a confined space.
Shen Jue, a single human, was able to tear a hole in the mothership fleet.
One ship? Several ships? A dozen or more would be needed to deal with that human who might intrude into the mothership group?
The commander didn't care about any of that.
"That sir doesn't care about the loss." It repeated the sentence.
"We don't care."
The commander raised his long, slender, armored finger and pointed it at the approaching black figure in the portal.
"We are pawns, and pawns don't need to calculate their own losses." The commander's voice echoed coldly through the Hive Network.
It turned around and faced the dark green planet in the direction of its home planet, and the densely packed hive cities and orbital platforms on that planet.
"That sir has placed us on the chessboard, and all we need to do is one thing."
The commander looked at the portal again.
The black-robed human had already reached the very top of Stark Tower.
"In the end, it will be we Chitauri who stand on the ruins."
Even if the ruins are full of our corpses.
The commander spread his arms, and the mothership's engines roared.
The new Leviathan warships slid out of the dock, their eyes glowing with a frenzied red light.
No matter how powerful Shen Jue is, the Chitauri will overwhelm him on the other side of the portal with their biological warships.
As Thanos's tools, the Chitauri didn't need to fear or hesitate; they just needed to be used.
"Come on," the commander whispered in the Hive Network, his voice echoing throughout the entire mothership group.
Earthlings.
"Let me show you the will of us Chitauri."
Shen Jue temporarily ignored the Chitauri's madness. He saw the two people huddled in the corner, stunned after completing the task Loki had given them using the Mind Stone scepter.
Those were Hawkeye Patton and Dr. Selvig.
Shen Jue gently waved the Mind Gem Scepter, and the mind control they were under instantly dispelled.
"Father Shen Jue?" Barton said immediately upon seeing Shen Jue after regaining consciousness.
As an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., how could he not recognize Father Shen Jue, the priest who had caused many S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to lose a lot of hair?
Dr. Selvig shouted excitedly, "We must close this portal!"
"My God! What have I done?!"
"Don't be nervous," Shen Jue reassured Dr. Selvig, "You did a good job, Doctor."
"The power of the Cosmic Cube to create a teleportation array spanning countless light-years is truly mesmerizing," Shen Jue exclaimed.
"With the current level of human technology, reaching the Chitauri's home planet is probably something that will never be possible."
"Then shut it down!" Dr. Selvig said fearfully, looking up at the scene behind the portal in the sky.
"You might be superhuman!"
"But this is different!"
Dr. Selvig roared, "An alien race capable of interstellar travel!"
"Their technological level is far beyond what humans can match today!"
"If these aliens were to descend upon Earth en masse, humanity would be doomed!"
Shen Jue nodded, but did not agree with Dr. Selvig's words.
If it were a plot from a science fiction movie or novel, this kind of script would seem perfectly normal.
But this is Earth in the Marvel universe. All the monsters and demons in the entire universe combined wouldn't be enough to defeat the humans on Earth and the gods of the Nine Realms.
"Doctor, don't worry."
"I will end these pathetic aliens."
Shen Jue gently patted Dr. Selvig's shoulder, her tone calm.
Dr. Selvig was stunned. He wanted to refute Shen Jue, but Shen Jue, holding the Mind Stone Scepter and wearing a black robe, made him lose the courage to refute or rebuke.
Moreover, there was not a trace of fear in Shen Jue's eyes, not even the slightest bit of tension.
The sense of entitlement he had for wiping out all the Chitauri terrified Dr. Selvig.
Agent Patton noticed this as well; he gripped his bow tighter but remained silent.
Saving the Earth is a more pressing concern than the lives of the Chitauri.
As a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, he knew better than anyone that Father Shen Jue's terrifying nature was never in the open.
Inside the portal, the new Leviathan warship has begun its journey.
Their bio-armor cast a huge shadow over New York, like a herd of giant beasts crawling out of the abyss.
Shen Jue raised his head, looked at the surging biological warships, and narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Damn it, you're a member of the opposite sex." He muttered to himself, and then disappeared from the spot.
In just a moment, he had traversed several kilometers and stepped into the boundary of the portal.
On the other side of the portal, all of the Chitauri commander's compound eyes simultaneously shone at their maximum brightness.
"He's coming in!"
The entire mothership group's cellular network was instantly overwhelmed by this signal.
Countless biological warships began to adjust their posture, attempting to form an encirclement before Shen Jue entered the dense formation of the mothership group.
But Shen Jue's speed was far faster than their reaction.
Meanwhile, on the ground in New York.
Outside the force field, New York police officers and National Guard soldiers were firmly blocked by an invisible wall.
Bullets, shells, and even missiles that were being attempted to be launched all mysteriously stopped at the edge of the force field and then fell silently.
"Make way! Let us in!"
"What exactly happened inside?"
"My God, those alien spaceships!"
The helicopter carrying the reporters hovered around the perimeter of the force field.
The camera lens was pointed at the isolated battlefield inside the force field.
At the top of Stark Tower, the light from the portal was particularly dazzling in the New York daytime.
In the command centers of major countries around the world, countless eyes are focused on the images transmitted back by satellites.
Pentagon.
"Who exactly is that man in black robes?"
"Damn it! What have you been doing all this time, running off into the primeval forest?"
"That's Father Shen Jue, the inventor of the universal serum!"
"You mean a clergyman caused Earth's medical standards to skyrocket?"
"He's right, sir, the truth is often this ridiculous."
silence.
Observers from all the major powers reached the same conclusion almost simultaneously.
After Father Shen Jue casually turned the Chitauri army that invaded New York into ashes, he must be an existence far beyond current human understanding.
At this moment, this being is stepping alone into the encirclement of the alien mothership fleet.
Inside the force field, beneath Stark Tower.
Barton and Dr. Selvig, who were left behind by Shen Jue, witnessed that scene.
That black figure was like a butterfly walking into the eye of a storm.
Light, composed, and without hesitation.
"He's gone mad..." Dr. Selvig murmured.
"No."
Patton interrupted him, his voice carrying an overwhelming sense of suppressed shock.
"It might be those aliens who are going crazy."
Inside the portal.
Shen Jue floated in the void, surrounded by a fleet of Chitauri motherships arranged like a black mountain range.
Those enormous biological warships, like a swarm of alarmed bees, were frantically tightening their encirclement.
The Leviathan behemoths let out a deep roar, and the bio-cannons on their bodies began to charge.
Shen Jue looked around and nodded slightly. He was floating in space, surrounded by a fleet of Chitauri motherships arranged like black mountain ranges.
Those enormous biological warships, like a swarm of alarmed bees, were frantically tightening their encirclement.
The Leviathan behemoths let out a deep roar, and the bio-cannons on their bodies began to charge.
The vastness of the universe was even quieter than Shen Jue imagined.
There was no air, no wind, no vibrations or noise from the ground, only an absolute, profound, sacred silence.
The engines of those biological warships ran silently in the vacuum, the roar of Leviathan was swallowed up by the void, and even the charged biological cannons in the distance only rippled with subtle energy in Shen Jue's perception.
In such silence, grandeur and insignificance are magnified simultaneously.
Each mothership resembled a floating mountain range, its black bio-armor gleaming with a moist, life-like sheen under the starlight.
Their outlines resemble the skeleton of some ancient behemoth, or perhaps living structures forcibly created, with flesh and metal fused together, and blood vessel-like channels faintly visible beneath their shells.
Thousands upon thousands of such warships lined up together, forming a true black Great Wall.
Shen Jue's gaze pierced through the layers of ships and looked into the distance.
The dark green planet was silently suspended in the depths of the void.
That is the home planet of the Chitauri.
From Shen Jue's perspective, it wasn't big; it even seemed to be humbly huddled in a corner of the universe.
But when you focus your gaze on its surface, that humility vanishes, replaced by an almost insane, suffocating mechanical density.
The entire planet is covered by a dense network of honeycomb cities, with hexagonal building units spreading like some kind of fungus across every continent and every ocean.
On the orbital platform, more biological warships are being "produced".
Those docks were like huge, open windows from which new Leviathans slid out, their eyes glowing red, before joining the already absurdly large fleet.
Shen Jue could even feel that the entire planet was breathing.
That breathing came from the pulses of the hive network, from the signals emitted simultaneously by countless Chitauri, and from the low hum of the engines of those biological warships.
They turned a planet into a factory.
A factory that exists solely for the purpose of war.
"Really..."
Shen Jue spoke softly, his voice naturally unable to travel in the vacuum, but he wasn't originally speaking to the Chitauri.
"amazing."
He thought of the alien civilizations depicted in science fiction movies on Earth.
Those magnificent crystal cities, elegant silver flying saucers, and artistic interstellar spaceships.
Compared to the Chitauri homeworld before them, those things were like kindergarten graffiti.
The Chitauri people do not understand art, aesthetics, or anything unrelated to efficiency and war.
They turned war into art.
They took the fusion of biology and machinery to its extreme, turning the entire planet into a killing and production machine.
"Such a distorted civilization and society."
"This is precisely the result of Thanos's deliberate pursuit of ruling the Chitauri..."
Shen Jue looked again at the mothership group that was tightening its encirclement.
Dr. Selvig is right.
Given humanity's current level of technology, relying solely on human armies to confront such a Chitauri army would indeed only lead to annihilation.
However, sometimes, the level of technology cannot determine everything about a civilization.
Shen Jue slightly raised the Mind Gem Scepter in his hand.
Death will descend upon a corner of this universe.
