Both start in hell: but their talents are multiplied a hundredfold.

Chapter 401 Fulfilling the Promise, Goddess of Death

The smoke of battle in New York slowly dissipated in the twilight.

Thor stood downstairs at Stark Tower, his gaze fixed on Shen Jue.

He gripped Thor's hammer, remained silent for a moment, then turned and returned to Asgard.

Thor has many questions to answer, and while Odin sleeps, he must visit the guardian of Asgard.

The three from X Academy also left after saying goodbye to Shen Jue.

Their actions were not hindered by Shen Jue's electromagnetic field.

Natasha and the others also left the battlefield and returned to the S.H.I.E.L.D. aircraft carrier.

As for Loki, the god of cunning, he'll probably be imprisoned for quite some time.

No one asked for the Mind Gem Scepter or the Cosmic Cube in Shen Jue's hand.

They seemed to lack the confidence to confront Shen Jue in his current state.

The floating portal above New York was firmly locked in place by his magnetic field, like a cold star embedded in the sky.

The electromagnetic field surrounding the portal emitted a faint blue glow, covering a large area.

Tony Stark flew over from a distance and landed in front of him. His armor had been mostly repaired, but his face under the mask was still etched with fatigue.

"You left it." Tony pointed to the portal in the sky.

"I kept it." Shen Jue nodded.

Tony paused for two seconds: "Do you know what this thing will cause? The United Nations will go crazy, governments around the world will go crazy, and the U.S. military will go crazy."

"So I'm leaving this mess to you." Shen Jue looked at him, a slight smile playing on his lips.

"Tony Stark, one of the smartest men in the world, you'll handle it."

Tony was speechless and wanted to curse, but in the end he just sighed and said, "You trust me that much?"

"I don't trust your lifestyle," Shen Jue said.

"But I believe in your curiosity. You wouldn't want to shut down a stable gateway to the other side of the universe."

Tony stared at him for a few moments, then turned and flew toward Stark Tower.

"You're right," his voice came through the communicator, "I really can't bear to part with him."

Shen Jue watched him leave, then led the Blackwatch security team back to the Blackwatch Building.

The crowd and the army gathered around the force field ignored Shen Jue and his group's actions.

The Mind Stone in Shen Jue's hand caused humans outside the electromagnetic field to develop a mindset that forcibly ignored Shen Jue and the others.

Inside the Black Watch Tower, the cold white light from the laboratory fell on the metal countertop, illuminating Frank Castle's angular face.

He walked to the safe in the corner of the laboratory, squatted down, and unlocked it using both his fingerprint and iris scan.

The cabinet door popped open with a dull metallic sound. He took out two dark gray ceramic jars from the deepest part of the cabinet, one large and one small. There were no markings on the jars, only faint fingerprints left from years of handling.

When he stood up, his legs seemed a little weak, and his hands, which had never trembled on the battlefield, were now holding two urns, his joints shaking slightly.

"Emily," he whispered, as if reciting a prayer, "Lisa, little Frank."

He walked up to Shen Jue and handed him the two jars.

The movement was so slow it was like moving a mountain; every inch the arm was raised was accompanied by disordered breathing. The cyborg-modified lungs emitted faint mechanical sounds, which mingled with the heartbeat of flesh and blood.

Frank didn't even wash off the bloodstains covering his body.

"It's all here." Frank's voice broke into fragments.

"When the government returned what they found in the ruins to me, these were all that were left."

Shen Jue took the urn. The urn was cold to the touch and very light, so light that it was hard to believe that it contained the remains of three people.

He glanced down at the mouth of the can, his gaze calm, then looked up at Frank.

Are you sure you're ready?

Frank's lips moved, and he nodded vigorously.

Shen Jue placed the two jars side by side on the operating table, then raised her right hand.

The scepter hovered above his palm and began to slowly rotate.

The yellow light deep within the gemstone seemed to awaken a living thing, surging out in strands, wrapping around his fingers, flowing across the metal tabletop, and dyeing the entire laboratory a warm amber color.

"These ashes contain their genetic map," Shen Jue said.

"And your blood and bones contain the genetic information of Lisa and Frank Jr."

Frank stood still, every muscle in his body tense.

"I will use the genetic information remaining in your body to rebuild their gene chain," Shen Jue's voice sounded like a sermon.

"Then we'll use the ashes you gave me to extract the remaining genetic information and reconstruct their bones and tissues at the atomic level."

"This will take time and requires your full cooperation."

Frank looked up abruptly: "What cooperation?"

"Stand still," Shen Jue said. "Just don't bother me."

Frank froze instantly, standing there like a statue, his breathing becoming shallow and slow.

The cyborg-modified lungs automatically adjusted to the lowest power consumption, and his eyes remained fixed on the urn on the operating table.

Shen Jue closed his eyes, and the electromagnetic field extracted invisible particles from the wounds on Frank's chest and arms, as well as the biological traces remaining on his skin.

Those particles were carried by light filaments, suspended in mid-air, and arranged into spiral-shaped gene chains.

At the same time, the urn opened silently, and the gray powder was lifted up by the gravitational field, rising into the air like a sand waterfall flowing against the current.

With a gentle flick of her fingers, Shen Jue caused the powder to recombine at the atomic level into hydroxyapatite crystals, which were then further woven into a dense network structure resembling a skeleton.

Next comes collagen synthesis, blood vessel reconstruction, nerve laying, and skin coverage.

Above the operating table, three bodies are being written on.

The skeleton of an adult female is formed first, followed by organs, blood vessels, muscles, skin, and other structures.

Long, dark brown hair hung down from the top of her head, and the contours of her face gradually became clearer.

The woman in question was none other than Frank's wife, whom he had longed for for many years.

A child's skeleton was formed simultaneously on the side, followed by another, smaller one, about three years old.

Frank watched all of this, and his breath caught in his throat.

The two small bodies have also completed their final form.

Lisa curled her fingers, her eyelashes resting on her cheeks, while little Frank turned to the side, his lips still bearing the natural curve of an infant.

Frank took one step forward after another.

His legs felt like they were made of lead, each step so heavy it seemed to crack the ground.

He walked to the operating table, lowered his head, looked at Emily's face, and reached out his hand, his fingertips stopping an inch from her cheek.

Frank dared not touch his daughter; he feared that if he did, everything would shatter like a dream.

Shen Jue stood aside and slowly withdrew the electromagnetic field.

He looked at Frank with pity in his eyes.

"Their bodies have been restored," Shen Jue said. "As for their souls..."

"I have a solution too."

Frank bent over, head bowed, fingertips hovering beside his wife's face.

Tears streamed down his modified eye sockets, slid down his metal-fitted cheeks, and dripped onto the operating table.

That was the first time in Frank Castle's life that he cried in front of others.

"Father," came Frank's voice, hoarse and broken.

Shen Jue nodded slightly.

"What else is needed?" Frank paused, as if using all his strength to organize his thoughts. "How long will it take for them to wake up?"

Shen Jue immediately replied, "A complete resurrection would also require their scattered souls."

"Perhaps the Soul Stone, located countless light-years away, can do this."

"On that distant planet Vormir..."

The cold white lights in the laboratory stopped, like ice crystals frozen in the air, motionless.

The dust particles were suspended in mid-air, no longer drifting.

The instrument's indicator light was frozen on a certain frame, and even the slightest flicker disappeared.

Time stopped.

Shen Jue raised her eyes.

The jeweled light of the Mind Scepter suddenly contracted, and all the outward-emitting electromagnetic fields seemed to be gently pressed back into his palm by something.

He felt an ancient, suffocating pressure seeping in from the void. It wasn't intense or domineering, but it was like the heavy pressure of the deep sea, omnipresent.

Frank remained bent over beside the operating table, a tear still clinging to his face.

Everything about him was frozen in time.

In the center of the laboratory, a crack as thin as a hair appeared in the air.

The gap expanded silently, its edges churning with pure darkness, and then a slender hand reached out from the darkness.

The hand was pale and long, with nails painted a dark red, like congealed blood.

A woman emerges from the crack.

She was wearing a black and red cheongsam with a high slit that extended from her thigh to her waist, revealing a section of her pale legs.

The collar of the cheongsam stood up, and the edges of the frog buttons gleamed with a dark luster.

Her black hair was pulled up high and secured with a white bone hairpin, with a few stray strands falling beside her ears, making her face stand out.

That face was unsettlingly beautiful, not because of its exquisite detail, but because of its familiarity.

Anyone who sees her will find the shadow of someone they have lost in her face.

Whether it's a mother, wife, daughter, or first love.

But those shadows blended together, turning the face into a mirror, reflecting the viewer's deepest consciousness.

She looked at Shen Jue, a slight smile curving her lips.

"Shen Jue." Her voice was deep, with a metallic resonance, as if countless voices were speaking at the same time, men and women, old and young, the living and the dead.

"Do you dare step into the realm of death?"

Shen Jue smiled slightly, her gaze calmly meeting the black eyes of the Goddess of Death.

"Goddess of Death?" Shen Jue's voice was steady.

"Or would you prefer a different name?"

Death, one of Marvel's five cosmic entities, tilted its head like a playful and cute girl.

"You can call me Death," she said. "I've used many names."

"Lately, life prefers to call me by this word directly."

She took a step, her high-slit cheongsam revealing a glimpse of her fair leg as she moved, each step silent, as if she were walking outside of time.

Death circled the operating table, its gaze settling on the bodies of Emily and her two children.

"Three." She stopped and gently traced her fingertips across Lisa's cheek, a touch so light it wouldn't even disturb a speck of dust.

"One mother, two children."

She looked up at Shen Jue: "You're trying to drag them out of my domain and back into the universe?"

Shen Jue did not deny it.

"You have brought their bodies together." The voice of death was gentle and soothing.

"But their souls? That's part of my domain. You have no right to take what's mine."

"Can I borrow it for tens of millions of years?" Shen Jue said, "Don't be too stingy."

"Goddess of Death".

Death laughed.

"What a shameless priest," she said softly.

"You have just emptied the souls of an entire planet, billions of them, into my domain."

"Logically speaking, even if this single universe is destroyed, my will will not descend here."

"But I sensed something unusual."

Shen Jue looked at her, seemingly considering what to say next.

"I know what you want."

"But everything has a price, doesn't it?"

Death's smile faded, and something stirred within his pure black eyes.

She walked up to Shen Jue, the distance between them less than half a foot.

She deliberately transformed into a human form that was slightly shorter than Shen Jue, but the oppressive feeling was as if the weight of the entire universe was pressing down on Shen Jue's shoulders.

"Mortal," she said coldly, "you seem to be thinking something rude?"

"It's human nature," Shen Jue said.

Shen Jue naturally knew what death required. He could sense that this one of the five primordial beings of the Marvel Universe, the source of life and soul, the manipulator and creator, longed for Shen Jue's information, knowledge and qualities that transcended the Marvel multiverse.

Death stared at Shen Jue for a long time.

Time remained still, Frank remained bent over, and the tear still lingered on the edge of his chin, about to fall.

She chuckled softly and said, "Father, you're very interesting."

"You're really brave."

This was the first time Shen Jue had lost his composure in the Marvel Universe. He swallowed hard, and a hint of boyish shyness appeared on his face.

Death smiled and walked up to him, tiptoed, and brought her lips close to his ear.

Her breath was icy cold, like the chilling winds of the underworld.

"I know what you're thinking, Father," Death said softly. "Perhaps I will grant your request."

Shen Jue took a deep breath; he could smell the scent of death.

Shen Jue really wants to drive a big truck.
