The first punch that shocked the basketball world
Chapter 8, 3 remainders, 5
After this group of matches ended.
A reporter immediately came over to interview Miller.
It was the female reporter Lin Fei had met in the lobby before, Sophia Green.
Holding a microphone and a recorder, she asked Miller two simple questions.
I took two more photos of Miller.
This is the main event of the day.
Miller's task for today is now complete.
Lin Fei stood aside, finding it amusing.
After interviewing Miller, Sofia Green surprisingly came over to Lin Fei.
She extended her hand and shook hands with Lin Fei.
"Hello, Lin," she said with a smile. "I'm Sophia, a reporter covering the Los Angeles Defenders. Here's my business card."
She handed me a business card.
Lin Fei took it and glanced at it.
Her name and contact information were printed on it.
"Can I have a quick chat with you?" Sofia asked.
Lin Fei's outstanding performance caught her attention.
Especially with such a Chinese face, it's extremely rare to see someone with that kind of Chinese appearance in the development league.
She thought she could write an article about it.
It may not be as sensational as the one-armed Carl Miller, but it can still generate some buzz.
Lin Fei never expected that playing a match would bring him additional exposure.
The previous two groups finished their matches, but no one received this treatment.
He would naturally not refuse the opportunity to increase his exposure for free.
However, after thinking for a moment, Lin Fei said, "I'd be very happy to chat with you for a bit. But the test isn't over yet, how about we wait until it's finished?"
He didn't want the interview to affect his upcoming tryouts.
Sofia nodded and smiled when she heard this.
"Of course you can," she said. "You're right, now is definitely not the time. Keep going, I believe you can stay in the end."
She waved to Lin Fei, then turned and left.
All three matches have concluded.
The morning's trial training was almost over.
The players sat in twos and threes on the sidelines, resting.
Some people were drinking water, some were wiping sweat, and some were looking down at their phones.
Harris spoke quietly with the coaching staff for a while.
Then he blew his whistle, gathering everyone around him.
"The morning's testing is over," Harris said. "My coaching team has scored everyone's performance."
"We will keep five players behind this afternoon to continue the trials."
"To the other players, thank you for your participation, and I hope you will continue to work hard in the future."
He spoke very directly, without any formalities.
That's how cruel professional sports are.
Then Harris started calling out names.
Alex Dunn.
The red team's white point guard was the first one to be called.
Some people in the crowd applauded.
Dunn nodded, his expression unchanged.
Expected.
"Derrick Banks."
A crew-cut black man who was on the same team as Lin Fei and was willing to pass the ball.
Derek paused for a moment, then a look of delight spread across his face.
He took a step forward.
"Marcus Rivers."
Another team's outstanding Black forward.
"Jordan Crawford."
The shooting guard of the other team.
After the first four names were read out, everyone was waiting for the fifth one.
Many people wore expressions of anticipation.
Harris glanced at the list.
Then he raised his head.
"Lin Fei".
The last name.
All five names were read aloud.
A chorus of wails erupted from the scene.
Many of those who failed the trial began to complain.
"On what grounds?"
"Did I perform worse than him?"
"This isn't fair!"
The dreadlocked guard who was Lin Fei's teammate was particularly enraged.
He pushed his way out of the crowd and pointed at Harris.
"Why isn't my name on the list?!" he roared. "I'm clearly the most talented and best performing one! Coach, are you mistaken?"
He was agitated, and his face turned red.
Harris's face immediately turned cold in response to the accusation about the dreadlocks.
He showed no intention of engaging in dialogue with the other party.
They're too lazy to even explain.
He simply waved to the security guards on both sides of the field.
"Get this person out of here."
His tone was flat, as if he were talking about something trivial.
Two security guards quickly came up.
They were holding dirty braids on either side and pulling them out of the stadium.
Seeing that he had no chance, the man with the filthy braid started cursing.
They hurled the most nasty insults at Harris.
They spew out all sorts of swear words.
Harris stood there expressionless, not even glancing in his direction.
It's like ignoring a mad dog that's barking incessantly.
But the two security guards wouldn't let him leave while he was cursing all the way.
"Bang!"
He punched me in the stomach.
It was very powerful.
Dirty Braid cried out in pain twice and immediately stopped cursing.
Their faces were deathly pale.
As the security guard dragged him out of the stadium, he cursed and slapped him twice across the face.
"Snapped!"
"Snapped!"
"Damn bastard!" the security guard cursed. "Who the hell do you think you are? Daring to cause trouble here? You're asking for it!"
Everyone watched helplessly as the man with the dirty braid was dragged out of the stadium.
No one knows whether he was actually kicked out of the stadium or dragged to a room without surveillance cameras by security guards and then beaten up.
But it is not important.
It is important that
Anyone else still complaining should immediately shut up.
No one dared to speak.
The scene fell silent instantly.
Harris remained standing in the same spot, not even glancing in the direction of the dreadlocks.
It was as if nothing had happened.
"Does anyone else have any objections?" he asked.
No one spoke.
"very good."
Harris nodded: "The five who advance stay, the rest can leave."
The five people who advanced were relatively happy.
Derek, the buzz-cut black man on Lin Fei's team, even hugged Lin Fei.
"You're my lucky star," he said with a smile. "I can't believe I got four assists from you today."
Lin Fei smiled and gave him a hug.
"You did a good job conveying the message," Lin Fei said. "It was a pleasure working with you."
...
The head coach announced a one-hour lunch break.
Those who failed to advance dispersed, looking dejected.
The five players who advanced were led by staff to the G League team's cafeteria for a meal.
The cafeteria isn't big, but it's quite clean.
It's a buffet, so the variety isn't huge, but the nutritional balance is fairly reasonable.
Chicken, beef, vegetables, fruits, and sports drinks.
The five people each took a plate, chose their food, and sat down.
At lunchtime, Sofia Green, the reporter who was with the team, also appeared in the cafeteria.
She carried her tray and went straight to Lin Fei's table.
"Do you mind if I sit here?" she asked with a smile.
Lin Fei looked up at her.
"Of course not," he said. "Please have a seat."
Sophia sat down opposite Lin Fei.
She put down her plate and took out a voice recorder.
"It won't interfere with your meal," she said. "We'll just chat for a bit."
Lin Fei nodded.
"no problem."
Sofia started with a brief self-introduction.
She is 26 years old, a Los Angeles native, and studied sports journalism in college.
After graduating, he joined the Defenders and worked as a reporter covering the team for two years.
My main responsibilities are daily reporting on the team and some interviews.
"Being a reporter in the Development League isn't easy," Sofia said with a laugh. "The pay is low, and there's a lot of work. Unlike NBA reporters, who have a glamorous life."
Lin Fei smiled.
"It's not easy for anyone," he said.
Then Sophia asked Lin Fei some basic questions.
"Where are you from?"
"China," Lin Fei said. "I came to the United States with my aunt when I was nine years old."
Have you played in high-level leagues before?
"I played in the NCAA Division II league in college," Lin Fei said. "After that, I played on local basketball courts."
Sofia was somewhat surprised.
"A pickup game?" she said. "Judging from your performance today, you didn't seem like a pickup player at all. Your defense was very professional."
"I practice a lot on my own," Lin Fei said. "I've also learned from some professional players."
He didn't say much.
Some things are too complicated to explain.
Sofia then asked him about his goal.
"Why do you want to play in the G League?" she asked. "What are your goals?"
Lin Fei put down his chopsticks and looked at her.
"My goal is to get into the NBA," he said. "I hope that one day I can become the league's best defensive player."
His tone was calm, but his eyes were firm.
Sofia was taken aback.
Then she laughed.
Chong Linfei gave a thumbs up.
"Good luck," she said. "I see tremendous potential in you. Your defensive awareness and judgment are outstanding."
"Waiting for your good news."
