We asked you to make an anti-corruption film, but you made one in the name of the people!
Chapter 26 Director Wang and Prosecutor Zhao came to visit the set!
A week after filming began for "All or Nothing", two special guests arrived on set.
That afternoon, Lin Mo was filming a scene between Wang Chuanjun and Sun Yang.
The scene is set in Manager Lu's office on the third floor.
Wang Chuanjun sat behind his desk, while Sun Yang stood beside him; the two were discussing performance results.
Lin Mo was staring at the monitor, about to call "start," when Lao Zhao suddenly walked up from behind, bent down, and whispered in his ear.
"Director Lin, someone's here."
Lin Mo didn't turn her head; her eyes remained fixed on the screen: "Who?"
"Prosecutor Zhao. And Director Wang from the Ministry of Public Security."
Lin Mo was startled and suddenly turned his head.
Sure enough, there were two people standing at the entrance to the film set.
Zhao Jian was wearing a dark gray jacket, his hands behind his back, looking up at the gray-white main building, his expression neither surprised nor solemn.
Director Wang stood beside him, wearing a black coat, his hands in his pockets, his gaze sweeping over the barbed wire fence on the wall, the guard tower at the gate, and the rusty water tower in the distance, his brows furrowed tightly.
Director Sun and two staff members followed behind the two.
Lin Mo quickly stood up and said to Lao Zhao, "Stop for a moment, wait for me to come back."
Old Zhao nodded, picked up the walkie-talkie, and shouted, "Pause! Director Lin has something to do, everyone stay put and rest!"
Lin Mo walked quickly towards the door.
"Prosecutor Zhao! Director Wang! What brings you here?"
When Zhao Jian saw him, his expression relaxed, and he pointed to the surrounding scenery: "Come see how your filming is going. Is this what you guys set up?"
Lin Mo nodded: "Yes, it used to be an abandoned factory area, which we renovated."
Director Wang chimed in from the side, "Renovation? This isn't renovation, it's restoration."
His gaze fell on the three-meter-high wall, the barbed wire gleaming coldly in the sunlight.
"Last year, I went to the Yunnan border and saw the statement of a young man who had fled back from northern Myanmar. The park he described—high walls, barbed wire, guard towers, and gray-white buildings—is exactly the same as yours."
Director Wang paused, then said in a low voice, "Exactly the same."
Without saying a word, Zhao Jian strode inside.
Lin Mo quickly followed, explaining as they walked.
"Prosecutor Zhao, this is the main building. The first floor is the office area, the second floor is the dormitory, and the third floor is the management area. That's the water dungeon behind the building. We've built a fake guard tower over the wall and put dummies inside."
Zhao Jian walked very slowly, stopping to look around at each place he visited.
When he saw the fraudulent scripts, performance charts, and warning signs posted on the walls of the first-floor office area, he stopped and looked at them for a while.
"Did you make all of this up?" Prosecutor Zhao asked.
"Some of it was made up, and some was reconstructed from files in the Ministry of Public Security's case files," Lin Mo said. "Those scripts are similar to those used by real fraud gangs."
Zhao Jian nodded without saying anything.
When he reached the water dungeon, he finally couldn't hold back any longer.
The water in that pool was grayish-green, with foam floating on the surface, red "bloodstains" sprayed on the walls, and a damp, musty smell permeated the air.
Zhao Jian squatted down, stared at the water for a few seconds, then stood up and looked at Lin Mo.
"Did you guys do this?"
"Um."
"Who came up with this?"
"Props, Lao Li. The water is clean, but I added paint and dish soap. It looks dirty, but it's not."
After a moment of silence, Prosecutor Zhao said, "It looks like it."
Just one word.
But Lin Mo knew that it wasn't easy to get Prosecutor Zhao to say that word.
Director Wang added from the side, "Last month I met a young man who came back from northern Myanmar. He was locked up in a water dungeon for seven days. His hands were shaking the whole time he was describing it to me. The water dungeon you're talking about is exactly the same as the one he described."
Lin Mo didn't reply.
Director Wang looked at him with a serious expression: "Xiao Lin, you've chosen the perfect setting."
As the three of them walked back from the water dungeon, they happened to pass by the main building's first-floor lobby.
Old Zhao was resting with the crew; some were chatting, some were drinking water, and some were checking equipment.
Seeing the two leaders approaching, everyone quickly stood up and made way for them.
Zhang Yixing, Jin Chen, Wang Chuanjun, and Sun Yang stood to one side, not daring to step forward.
Zhang Yixing asked in a low voice, "Who are these two?"
Jin Chen whispered, "I don't know, but he doesn't look like an ordinary person."
Wang Chuanjun, holding a thermos, squinted slightly, looked at it for a few seconds, and said in a low voice, "I've seen the one on the left on the news."
"Huh?" Zhang Yixing's eyes widened.
"From the Supreme People's Procuratorate," Wang Chuanjun said in a low voice. "I don't know the exact position, but the rank is quite high."
Sun Yang added from the side, "The guy on the right in black doesn't look like an ordinary person either. Is he from the Ministry of Public Security?"
The group exchanged glances and fell silent.
Jin Chen suddenly whispered, "Director Lin has way too much influence, doesn't he? Even high-ranking officials from the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Ministry of Public Security come to visit the set for a film shoot?"
Zhang Yixing scratched his head: "That's why we can't be careless with this film. This isn't making a movie; this is completing a mission."
"Stop discussing it, let's get back to work. The leaders are here, and putting on a good show is the best respect we can show them."
The group nodded and fell silent, but their eyes couldn't help but dart over in that direction.
Lin Mo led Prosecutor Zhao and Director Wang behind the monitor, and Old Zhao quickly brought over two folding chairs.
"Prosecutor Zhao, Director Wang, please sit down."
Zhao Jian didn't sit down, but stood and glanced at the monitor screen.
The screen showed the footage they had just been preparing to film—Wang Chuanjun was sitting behind his desk, and Sun Yang was standing next to him, the two facing off.
"Which scene is this?" Prosecutor Zhao asked.
"The scene between Manager Lu and Ah Cai in the office," Lin Mo said. "Prosecutor Zhao, would you like to see the scene?"
Zhao Jian glanced at Director Wang, who nodded.
"have a look."
Lin Mo looked at Lao Zhao: "Brother Zhao, get ready, let's do that one again."
Old Zhao, holding a walkie-talkie, shouted, "All units, prepare! One more take of the scene in Manager Lu and Ah Cai's office!"
The actors quickly returned to their positions.
Wang Chuanjun sat down behind his desk, adjusted his posture, and his entire demeanor immediately changed.
He was no longer the refined actor, but a businessman doing "business" in northern Myanmar.
His eyes held shrewdness, ruthlessness, and a chilling gentleness.
Sun Yang stood next to the desk, observing Manager Lu's expression like a dog ready to bite at any moment.
Prosecutor Zhao and Director Wang stood behind the monitor without saying a word.
Old Zhao glanced at Lin Mo, and Lin Mo nodded.
"start!"
Wang Chuanjun leaned back in his chair, twirling a pen in his hand, his gaze fixed on the reports on the table.
He looked at it for a few seconds, then looked up at Sun Yang.
"Ah Cai, this month's sales are not good."
The voice was soft, even somewhat nonchalant.
But Sun Yang's body visibly tensed up.
"Manager Lu, a few new employees are still adjusting. Give them a few more days."
Wang Chuanjun put down his pen, stood up, walked to the window, and turned his back to Sun Yang.
Outside the window was the gray-white factory area, where dozens of employees were lining up for their meals.
He looked at it for a few seconds, then turned around with a smile on his face.
But the smile didn't reach his eyes.
"Not adapting?" Wang Chuanjun chuckled. "If they're not adapting, let them adapt. If they can't adapt, replace them."
He walked back to his desk, picked up a list from the table, and made two marks on it with a pen.
"These two, send them to the water dungeon tomorrow."
Sun Yang glanced at the list and nodded.
"Understood, Manager Lu."
There were no unnecessary lines or exaggerated expressions throughout the entire performance.
But the expressions on the faces of Prosecutor Zhao and Director Wang, who were behind the monitor, changed.
The feeling of casually deciding a person's fate is more chilling than any shouting or yelling.
"Click!"
Lin Mo called for a stop.
The film set fell silent.
Zhao Jian remained silent for several seconds, then turned to look at Lin Mo.
"What's the name of the guy who plays Manager Lu?"
"Wang Chuanjun."
Zhao nodded and glanced at the monitor playback again.
Wang Chuanjun's face was smiling, but there was no smile in his eyes.
Zhao Jian withdrew his gaze and said two words.
"Panic."
Director Wang chimed in from the side, "It's not just a prank, it's real. That's how those scam ringleaders in northern Myanmar are. They'll be smiling and talking to you, but the next second they can send you to a water dungeon."
Lin Mo stood to the side, not responding.
Director Wang then looked at Sun Yang's face on the monitor.
"The actor who plays Ah-Cai is also good. He just stands there without saying a word, but his eyes..."
He paused for a moment, as if searching for the right words.
"He looks like someone who does dirty work."
Lin Mo said, "His name is Sun Yang, and he plays A Cai. The character's defining characteristic is that he's polite to everyone on the surface, but ruthless when he actually does something."
Director Wang nodded and said nothing more.
Zhao Jian watched the replay again, then turned to look at Lin Mo.
"Xiaolin, the filming was great. I've seen it, and I'm relieved."
Director Wang nodded: "I agree with Prosecutor Zhao. Keep filming, don't let our presence delay the progress."
Lin Mo said, "Prosecutor Zhao, Director Wang, you've come all this way, aren't you going to look at anything else?"
Inspector Zhao waved his hand: "I'm not looking anymore. Looking too much will only distract you from your work. Let's go."
After saying that, he turned and walked towards the door.
Director Wang followed, took two steps, then stopped and looked back at the direction of the water prison.
He paused for two seconds, then looked at Lin Mo and said something.
"Xiao Lin, after this film is finished, I want all the grassroots police officers in the border areas to watch it. Only after they watch it will they know how to tell the people—northern Myanmar is not a safe place."
Lin Mo nodded.
Director Wang turned and left.
Zhao Jian walked to the door, then stopped and looked back at Lin Mo.
"Xiaolin, take care of yourself. Don't stay up late."
"Understood, Prosecutor Zhao."
The two leaders' cars drove away.
The film set has returned to normal.
Old Zhao, holding a walkie-talkie, shouted, "Get to work! Get ready for the next take!"
Zhang Yixing walked over from the side, leaned close to Lin Mo, and whispered, "Director Lin, who are those two? They look like high-ranking officials."
Lin Mo glanced at him and casually said, "One is from the Supreme People's Procuratorate, and the other is from the Ministry of Public Security."
How big?
"Very big."
Zhang Yixing shrank back and stopped asking.
Jin Chen also leaned over and whispered, "Director Lin, although I didn't have any scenes just now, I stood there watching, not daring to breathe loudly."
Lin Mo laughed: "You don't have any lines, what are you nervous about?"
Jin Chen blushed and said, "I... I'm just nervous."
Wang Chuanjun walked over, pushed up his glasses, and teased with a smile, "Jin Chen, what are you nervous about? I didn't mess up my performance."
Jin Chen rolled his eyes: "Brother Chuanjun, I wasn't talking about you."
Sun Yang stood to the side, smiling, and said, "The boss is gone, time to get back to work. Director Lin is still waiting to film."
Lin Mo glanced at Sun Yang and smiled.
"Sun Yang is right." Lin Mo clapped his hands. "Next, let's continue with the previous scene. Get ready."
Wang Chuanjun and Sun Yang exchanged a glance and then walked towards the monitoring room.
Zhang Yixing and Jin Chen stepped aside and continued to study the script.
"Attention all units, filming will begin in three minutes."
