Chapter 136 The Train Tomorrow Morning
After Qin Hai said, "Let Lao Zhou think for you," Tian Jianjun didn't know how to respond for a long time.
His hand was still resting on the edge of the small cabinet, about half a palm's distance from the car keys.
The cardiologist on duty had just finished a phone call with his superior and came back to clip the two electrocardiograms together.
"Master Tian, let me make this clear from the start. You can't just treat this as a dental problem and put it back. You'll need to stay for monitoring tonight, and the second blood sample will be drawn at the appointed time."
Tian Jianjun's throat moved slightly.
"My 4:30 AM appointment tomorrow is no ordinary job. It's with a regular client who needs to catch the high-speed train. They booked it a day in advance, and if I don't go, I'll be inconveniencing them."
"If you fall ill halfway through the journey, it won't just be one high-speed train that's delayed. There are other passengers on board as well."
Tian Jianjun's lips tightened slightly, but he didn't respond.
Nurse Li rewound the cuff.
"Don't worry about the passengers yet. Keep your arm straight; you'll have to get it checked again later. You're not the only one in the fleet with a driver's license."
Ma Hao, who was making contact with someone nearby, looked up when he heard this.
"Sister Li, your way of comforting people is quite harsh."
Nurse Li didn't look at him.
"Then you try to coax them."
Ma Hao gripped the pen tightly again.
"I write; I'm better suited to making quiet contributions."
The cardiologist and Qin Hai still had beds available, and Tian Jianjun moved his hand half an inch closer to the key.
"Master Tian," Lin Ye pushed the phone next to his pillow, "call someone in charge first. Hand over the keys and tomorrow morning's order. Otherwise, you'll be lying here with your mind still in the parking lot."
Tian Jianjun glanced at him.
"My brother runs a late-night food stall, and he's busy right now."
"We have to answer the call, even if it's busy. You're a patient now, not a fleet dispatcher."
Tian Jianjun was speechless, and even made a mistake twice when flipping through his contacts.
The phone rang for a long time.
As soon as the call connected, the first sound was the sizzling of oil in a pan, followed by someone shouting, "Boss, add more chili!"
"Jianjun?" The man on the other end of the phone had a deep voice. "Why are you calling me if you're not driving a car?"
Tian Jianjun held his phone closer to his face.
"Brother, I'm at the hospital."
The sound of the spatula over there stopped.
"Stomach ache again?"
"Not the stomach."
Tian Jianjun glanced at the two electrocardiograms beside the bed and lowered his voice even further.
"The doctor won't let me drive."
There was a loud thud from the spatula on the other end of the phone.
"You're asking me to explain why you're not allowed to drive? Listen to the doctor! You called me hoping I'd approve your leave over the phone?"
Tian Jianjun closed his eyes briefly after being scolded.
"Park the car at the emergency room entrance. The keys are by the bedside. Please tell Lao Zhou about the 4:30 am trip tomorrow."
"He's in the hospital, and you're still thinking about the car." Someone on Tian Jianguo's end was urging him to settle the bill, so he muttered in a low voice, "You wait here, I'll be over after I finish cooking this."
Tian Jianjun quickly added a sentence.
"Don't tell Mom."
"She went to bed early. I'm not so bored as to scare her in the middle of the night." Tian Jianguo's voice faded into the distance, as if he were turning to send the guest away. "Don't give the key to anyone else. Old Zhou, I'm asking you, don't do it yourself. The doctor told you to lie down, so just lie down."
"Tell him to go to the triage desk to find someone, don't rush into the intensive care unit. Bring his ID card, he needs to sign for the key."
After Tian Jianjun finished speaking, Tian Jianguo answered very quickly.
"I know. I brought my ID card."
As soon as he hung up the phone, Tian Jianjun's hand was still resting on the phone.
The cardiologist on duty put his phone back in his pocket.
"My superiors have reviewed the image; it can't be used. I'll urge them to release the bed, and I'll review the medication. The emergency room shouldn't let him leave the monitoring area yet."
Qin Hai agreed.
He turned to Tian Jianjun.
"The second vial of blood hasn't come out yet, and the person is still in bed. Ask your brother when he gets there, and I'll tell you in person so you two don't have to guess."
Tian Jianjun became anxious.
"I didn't say I wanted to get out of bed."
Nurse Li straightened the tubing of the blood pressure cuff.
"He didn't say it, but his mind was already on the parking space."
He didn't respond to that.
Ma Hao filled in half of the contact person section.
"Master Tian, what's your brother's name?"
"Tian Jianguo".
Ma Hao paused, his pen poised.
"Your name is Jianjun, and your brother's name is Jianguo?"
Tian Jianjun coughed.
"My dad named it."
Ma Hao's mouth moves faster than his brain.
"Is your brother's name Jianshe?"
Qin Hai glanced at him.
Ma Hao quickly buried his head back in his notebook.
Tian Jianjun chuckled, then frowned, feeling a tightness in his chest.
"His name really is Tian Jianshe."
Nurse Li re-clamped the oxygen clip.
"Name is name, but stop laughing. If you have a chest injury, we all have to monitor you."
The timer sticker on the side of the treatment cart had expired, and Nurse Li tore open the packaging of the blood collection needle.
When Tian Jianjun saw the needle, his shoulders hunched over.
"Still smoking?"
"This injection can't be skipped." Nurse Li put on her gloves. "It's just a matter of whether it moves upwards. If you avoid one more procedure tonight, we'll all have an easier time."
After the blood was drawn into the tube, Lin Ye took a transparent bag, put the car keys inside, and left the bag unsealed.
"Put the key at the triage desk first. When your brother arrives, give it to him after you've verified his documents."
Tian Jianjun didn't reach out; he just stared at the bag.
"Have him check my car. Don't give me a ticket, and don't let him block the ambulance."
Qin Hai gestured with his chin toward Ma Hao.
"Ask the security guard if the taxi at the entrance is blocking the emergency lane. If it is, have the guard contact his brother so the patient doesn't have to worry about it."
Ma Hao picked up the phone at the triage desk.
Tian Jianjun withdrew his hand from the side of the cabinet and placed it back on the quilt.
After a while, his voice lowered.
"Doctor, could you please not tell me about my son yet? He's a senior in high school and has to study early tomorrow morning."
The cardiologist was finishing up the prescription, his pen never stopping.
"It's okay if you don't call the kids yet. Keep your brother's phone number safe; if anything changes, we can't hide it from you."
Tian Jianjun nodded.
"I'm not hiding it from him. When he's in a panic, he'll even bring his schoolbag to the hospital."
When the emergency inquiry window phone rang back, Ma Hao was still listening to the security guard report the car's location.
When Nurse Li answered the phone and heard "Tian Jianjun's second point," she immediately stopped joking.
She didn't announce the results outside; instead, she handed the stethoscope directly to the cardiologist.
The cardiologist answered the phone.
"Was the blood collection time correct?"
The person on the other end of the phone replied with a few words.
He then asked, "How much higher is it than the first point?"
Tian Jianjun turned his head slightly, causing the sleeve tube to sway.
Qin Hai held onto the bed railing.
"Lie down."
After hanging up the phone, the cardiologist jotted down the results on the side of a piece of paper, his tone more subdued than before.
"The troponin level went up the second time. The bed is urging me again. I'll call my supervisor back, and also let the catheterization lab staff and interventional team know."
The cardiologist turned to Qin Hai.
"The patient should not be separated from the monitoring. I will prescribe antiplatelet and anticoagulant medications here, but the emergency room should not repeat the prescriptions. I will confirm the dosage with my superiors, and you should follow the temporary medical orders."
Qin Hai nodded.
Tian Jianjun gripped the bed sheet, and after a long pause, he finally managed to ask the question.
"So, what I'm experiencing is a heart attack?"
"We're taking precautions in this direction now, including against myocardial infarction. The specific name will be determined by higher-ups and subsequent results. Don't memorize the name yet; remember two things."
Tian Jianjun stared at him.
Which two items?
"Don't get out of bed tonight, and don't touch the steering wheel tomorrow morning."
Tian Jianjun's Adam's apple bobbed, his eyes glanced at the cabinet for a moment, then looked away.
Ma Hao peeked back from the triage desk.
"Teacher Qin, the car is in the outer parking space and isn't blocking the way. The security guard said his brother is here and needs to bring his ID to the triage desk to sign some papers."
Tian Jianjun relaxed a little when he heard that the car was not blocking the way.
Tian Jianguo arrived faster than he had said on the phone.
He was wearing a down jacket over his apron, which he hadn't taken off underneath, and his cuffs were stained with oil as he ran to the triage desk.
Where is Tian Jianjun?
Nurse Li gestured to stop him from rushing inside.
"Are you Tian Jianguo?"
"I'm his brother."
"Put your ID card out first."
Tian Jianguo patted his pockets while glancing into the monitoring station.
"How's my brother's heart condition? He didn't explain clearly over the phone."
"We'll have to wait for the doctor to tell us about your condition." Nurse Li didn't move aside. "Let me see your ID first. You can't just hand over your keys because you say you're my brother."
Tian Jianguo pulled out his ID card, his hands still smelling of oil from the night market stall.
Lin Ye handed the transparent bag to Nurse Li.
"The car isn't blocking the way; it's on the outside. I'll give you the keys after I verify them. Don't leave yet; the cardiologist has something to tell you."
Tian Jianguo nodded.
He had just stood by the bed when Tian Jianjun called him.
"Tell Lao Zhou for me at 4:30 tomorrow morning."
Tian Jianguo was holding back his anger.
"I called Lao Zhou back on the way. He said someone would cover for him."
Tian Jianjun looked up.
"Is there really someone?"
"Yes, Xiao Liu will go." Tian Jianguo looked at him. "I'll watch the car and take the keys. You should catch your breath first; that's more important than anything else."
Tian Jianjun took a breath, his lips moved, but he didn't say anything more about the car.
The triage desk phone rang again.
The cardiologist said a couple of words and gestured for the gurney to be moved.
"There's a bed available for cardiac monitoring. Take the monitor and push it there, making sure the monitoring continues along the way."
Just as the flatbed cart started moving, Lao Zhou called again.
As soon as Tian Jianjun made a move, Tian Jianguo took the phone first.
"He's in the hospital, don't rush him."
Old Zhou's voice was quite loud on the other end.
After Tian Jianguo listened, Tian Jianjun on the shower bed waved his hand.
"Old Zhou said that Xiao Liu will take that order; he'll go at 4:30. You'll get half the payment. If you touch your phone again, he'll come and yell at you in person tomorrow."
Tian Jianjun closed his eyes and responded after a few seconds.
After verifying the ID card, Nurse Li sealed the transparent bag and had Tian Jianguo sign the item handover form.
The stretcher was pushed toward the cardiology intensive care unit.
Tian Jianguo clutched the key pouch, oil stains from his cuffs smearing onto the pouch opening.
