When I'm on the night shift, all the department heads can't sleep.
Chapter 232, Second Name
At 7:15 a.m., Nurse Li turned to a new page in the handover log for the observation positions.
The day shift nurse had already changed her clothes and was standing beside her listening to her report on the new patients who had been added that night.
Just as the two of them finished checking the last bed, the landline at the triage desk rang.
Nurse Li reached out to answer the phone, while her other hand remained on the handover log.
Lin Ye had just added a follow-up examination result to the record when the day shift doctor pulled out a chair next to him, waiting to take over the patient from his care.
Ma Hao scrolled through the to-do list from top to bottom, making sure all the required checks had been completed, before exiting the current page.
Sun Zhiqiang came out of the consultation room and paused at his desk: "Get that record from last night."
Ma Hao paused for a moment, then reopened Qiu Mingyu's medical record.
"Where's the evaluation form?"
"In the drawer."
"Leave it for now, I need to look at the medical records first."
Ma Hao had already touched the drawer handle, but upon hearing this, he withdrew his hand.
Sun Zhiqiang dragged the mouse over, first opening the observation record, scrolling down to 2:12 AM, and then following the timeline to 2:29 AM.
The page had just stopped when someone called from the triage desk: "Dr. Sun, please answer the call from the lab."
Sun Zhiqiang released the mouse: "Okay, I'll be right there."
He went to answer the phone and then came back to continue reading.
Ma Hao stood to the side, his eyes stinging from the screen after staying up all night, and he raised his hand to rub his brow bone.
"The situation had improved considerably by 2:29, so why didn't you let him leave then?" Sun Zhiqiang suddenly asked.
"There's still a bit of wheezing in his lungs." Ma Hao put his hand down. "He kept thinking about going back to the warehouse. I was afraid that if he felt relaxed sitting there, he would keep going back to the warehouse after leaving, so I let him stay for an extra twenty minutes."
Sun Zhiqiang opened the discharge record.
The time information above connects to the previous page, and the prescription, follow-up visit information, and return-to-hospital conditions are also available.
He didn't scroll through the medical history any further, but simply hovered the mouse over the section where Ma Hao left the observation station, and then opened Nurse Li's observation form. The departure and return times recorded by both sides matched up, and it also had a place to find out who to contact in case of abnormalities and when to have follow-up assessments.
Sun Zhiqiang then released the mouse: "Alright."
Sun Zhiqiang took a black pen out of his white coat pocket.
"Take out the watch."
Ma Hao opened the drawer and took out a transparent file bag.
The zipper on the bag got stuck, and he had to pull it back and forth twice before he could open it.
The first two boxes on the evaluation form have already been signed, but the third box is still empty.
Sun Zhiqiang checked the medical record number and wrote down the name and date in the last blank space.
"Has this been calculated?"
"Okay." Sun Zhiqiang pushed the form back. "Now we have all three cases, but the final decision still depends on the Science and Education Department's review."
"I know."
"If you know that, hurry up and hand over your shift. The day shift is already waiting."
Ma Hao put the evaluation form back into the document bag, sealed it, and stuffed it into the inner layer of his backpack.
At 7:30, the doctors began the formal shift handover.
Sun Zhiqiang first reported the situation of being under observation overnight and being transferred to another department.
When it was Ma Hao's turn, he turned the workstation page to the attending physician, submitted the results to be returned and the re-evaluation time according to the bed number.
The other party checked the pending tasks, signed their name in the handover column, and Ma Hao checked the bed number again before logging out of the account.
Lin Ye just finished submitting his application as well.
The day shift doctor took the mouse and processed the first task in the queue, while the two of them moved aside from the workstation.
Nurse Li tucked the last observation form back into her notebook, glancing at Ma Hao's backpack as she passed by: "Oh, the form's signed?"
"Signed."
"What are you still standing there for? Breakfast isn't included for the night shift, go back and get some rest."
Ma Hao chuckled, "Alright, I'm leaving right away."
He and Lin Ye went back to the locker room to change out of their white coats.
When the cabinet door was opened, the half-empty bottle of water that had been stuffed in last night was still in the corner, the bottle body already crushed.
Ma Hao tilted his head back and took two sips. The water had been sitting in the cabinet overnight and had a plastic taste. He frowned and poured the rest into the sink: "I should have listened to you. Don't skimp on that bottle of water on the way."
"You said yesterday afternoon that two bottles would be enough."
"How was I supposed to know I'd be this busy all night? I ended up leaving half a bottle of water at the end of the workday." Ma Hao threw the empty bottle into the trash can. "Don't expect me to help you move your books when you get back. Nobody's moving anything today."
"I wasn't planning on moving today either."
The two walked out of the locker room.
Lin Ye asked, "Should we go straight back? Or should we grab something to eat first?"
"Eat something hot first." Ma Hao patted his backpack. "You won't be able to sleep if you're hungry."
As soon as the door to the employee exit opened, the morning sun shone on their faces.
Ma Hao raised his hand to block them, and then followed Lin Ye out.
After the two crossed the first intersection, the porridge shop on their right was already open, with a layer of steam covering the glass and a sticker on the door that read "Open at 6 a.m."
Ma Hao pushed the door open and went in: "Hurry up, I'm starving! I didn't eat much last night."
There were only two tables of customers in the restaurant.
The owner had just brought out a basket of steamed buns when the steam hit the glass display case and quickly condensed into a layer of white mist.
Lin Ye ordered two bowls of porridge and four steamed buns.
Ma Hao sat down near the door, placed his backpack beside his feet, and hooked the strap with his toes.
"The floor is so dirty, can't you put it on the chair over there?" Lin Ye handed over the chopsticks.
"The form I just signed is still in my bag."
"..."
Ma Hao took the chopsticks.
When the hot porridge was served, he bent down and blew on it twice, but he drank it too quickly and still gasped because it was too hot.
Lin Ye glanced at him: "It's fresh out of the pot, slow down, I'm not going to fight you for it."
"I'm so sleepy, I need to finish this quickly so I can go back and catch up on my sleep." Ma Hao put the spoon back in the bowl and waited for the porridge to cool down a bit before picking it up again.
My phone, which was on the corner of the table, vibrated.
The notice from the Science and Education Department was only a few lines long: the supplementary inspection and re-evaluation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the small conference room of the Science and Education Department. Please bring the inspection form and relevant records and arrive 10 minutes in advance.
After reading the message, Ma Hao was still uneasy and read it again from the beginning.
Lin Ye looked up: "The time has been set?"
"Yes, it's scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m.." Ma Hao put his phone on ring and placed it back on the corner of the table. "We'll have to wait two more days."
The "related records" in the notification made him take a second look.
He opened his memo app and had just typed "Review on Wednesday" when Lin Ye pushed the steamed bun in front of him.
"Eat breakfast first. Why are you in such a hurry to get ready?"
"I'll make a note of this first. I'll retrieve the three original records myself during tomorrow's day shift, so I don't have to look for them at the last minute."
"That's for tomorrow. You're so sleepy right now, don't bother. It'll be troublesome if you make a mistake."
Ma Hao glanced at the porridge that was getting cold, saved the memo, and put his phone back on the corner of the table: "Okay, I'll get a good night's sleep and deal with it tomorrow."
After finishing the remaining buns, the two left the porridge shop and walked back to their dormitory along the same route.
Ma Hao's lips curled into a smile as he thought about how he had signed all three places. After entering the room, he put his backpack on the bedside table, took off his coat halfway, and sat down on the edge of the bed.
Don't call me.
Lin Ye reached out and drew the curtains: "Go to sleep."
