When I'm on the night shift, all the department heads can't sleep.

Chapter 9 The night shift roster was circulated among all departments.

Lin Ye only found out he had been tagged when he returned to his dormitory in the afternoon.

The dormitory for resident trainees was a four-person room with the curtains drawn, and takeout boxes and review materials were piled on the floor. He had just hung his white coat on the back of the chair when his roommate, Ma Hao, poked his head out from his bed.

"Lin Ye, you're famous now."

Lin Ye couldn't even lift his eyelids: "All I want to do right now is sleep."

Ma Hao shoved his phone in front of him: "What are you sleeping for? Look!"

The screen displays the emergency room night shift schedule.

Lin Ye's name was circled three times in red pen, and next to it was written: Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiology. He had worked on all three departments.

Below is a series of chat screenshots.

Is Lin Ye here tonight?

[If you're here, please don't silence your phone, Director.]

I heard he specifically targets the area late at night.

Don't talk nonsense, they're identifying the illness, not the department head.

Ma Hao laughed so hard the bed creaked: "What kind of constitution do you have? While others are accumulating medical records during their residency training, you're accumulating the head doctor's phone number."

Lin Ye pushed the phone back: "Don't send it."

"You think I spread the rumors? The whole hospital is talking about it." Ma Hao sat up. "But seriously, do you have some kind of secret? How can you tell aortic dissection, cerebral hemorrhage, and myocardial infarction?"

Lin Ye paused for a moment as he took off his coat.

The system's light blue text did not appear.

He looked down and rolled up his sleeves: "Ask a few more questions, do a more thorough physical examination."

Ma Hao curled his lip: "The teacher said that too, it sounds like nonsense."

"When you're actually in front of a patient, even nonsense can save a life."

Ma Hao was momentarily speechless.

Lin Ye lay down on the bed and fell asleep almost as soon as his head hit the pillow.

He only slept for four hours.

At 7 p.m., a message popped up in the emergency room group.

[Qin Hai: Tonight's shift schedule has been adjusted. Lin Ye will be working at the emergency room front desk, with Sun Zhiqiang in charge. High-risk cases must be reported immediately.]

There was a half-minute silence.

Nurse Zhao sent a single word.

【receive. 】

A few seconds later, Zhou Mingyuan, a cardiac and vascular surgeon, suddenly appeared in the group chat.

[Zhou Mingyuan: Is Lin Ye here tonight?]

The group chat went silent instantly.

Tang Zhendong followed up with a message.

[Tang Zhendong: Was he still worth it today?]

Neurosurgeon Luo Jianping also appeared.

[Luo Jianping: Send me a copy of the emergency room shift schedule.]

Qin Hai didn't reply for a long time.

[Qin Hai: Department heads, please note the group rules and refrain from harassing our department's resident trainees.]

When Nurse Zhao saw this message at the nurses' station, she laughed so hard she almost dropped the thermometer.

When Lin Ye arrived at the emergency room, the nurse on duty looked up at him, then looked down at the duty roster.

Several young doctors slowed their pace as they passed the nurses' station, glancing at his name tag as if to see if he had an extra eye.

Sun Zhiqiang placed a stack of medical records in front of him.

"Don't get carried away."

"I didn't drift."

"Don't think that just because the directors are joking around, you've really become some kind of night shift icon." Sun Zhiqiang lowered his voice. "The medical affairs department called again this afternoon to ask if you've been involved in any inducements for examinations or bypassing the proper channels for consultations these past few times."

Lin Ye pressed the schedule back onto the table: "I know."

"Good to know. Tonight, follow the usual procedures for regular patients. Don't treat everyone like they're about to die."

After Sun Zhiqiang finished speaking, he pulled out the top fever medical record.

"This patient has a fever of 38.2 degrees Celsius, a sore throat, but no chest tightness or difficulty breathing. After your examination, please follow the standard procedures for a fever clinic. Don't push every patient into the emergency room just because the previous visits were close calls."

Lin Ye took the medical record, carefully inquired about the patient's medical history, and then examined the patient's throat and lungs. The patient was sitting in a chair scrolling through short videos; apart from a sore throat, there were no other high-risk symptoms.

He followed the procedures and received routine check-ups and fever clinic instructions.

Sun Zhiqiang watched from the side, and finally stopped tapping the table with the red pen in his hand.

Before leaving, the feverish patient whispered, "Doctor, do I need resuscitation?"

Lin Ye shook his head: "Not at the moment. Follow the procedure for the check-up. If there is chest tightness, shortness of breath, or loss of consciousness, come back immediately."

The patient breathed a sigh of relief: "I saw online that your emergency room has been doing a lot of resuscitations lately, it was quite scary."

After Sun Zhiqiang and the others had walked a distance, he whispered, "Did you hear that? When the news spreads, some people feel at ease, while others are afraid. Don't let the excitement overshadow your judgment."

Lin Ye nodded: "Understood."

Just as Lin Ye was about to agree, a commotion suddenly broke out outside the emergency room.

A young man in a yellow delivery uniform was squatting at the door, clutching his stomach, with his electric scooter helmet still hanging on his arm.

The platform manager stood next to him, constantly urging, "Doctor, he tripped while delivering an order and said his stomach hurts. Can you hurry up? We still have over a dozen orders to process."

Nurse Zhao went over and asked, "Where did you fall?"

The deliveryman's face was pale: "I bumped my stomach on the handlebars, it's not serious. I'll be fine after a rest."

The stationmaster immediately said, "Look, he himself said it's not heavy."

Lin Ye looked up.

The deliveryman pressed one hand against his upper left abdomen and gripped the edge of the chair with the other, his fingernails turning white.

He walked over and asked, "When did you fall?"

"Half an hour ago."

Has the pain worsened?

The deliveryman gritted his teeth: "I could ride it just now, but I'm a little dizzy."

The station manager frowned: "Don't exaggerate. Deducting money for being late is a platform rule, not something I set."

Before Lin Ye could speak, light blue text lit up in front of him.

[Emergency room alert activated.]

Patient: Gao Lei, male, 24 years old.

Symptoms: Mild abdominal pain.

High-risk: Traumatic splenic rupture, intra-abdominal hemorrhage.

[Probability of misdiagnosis: 88%]

[Key abnormalities: History of left upper quadrant abdominal impaction, pallor, progressive dizziness.]

[Shock countdown: 47 minutes 36 seconds.]

Lin Ye raised his hand and pressed down on the deliveryman's shoulder.

"Don't go."

The stationmaster's face darkened: "Doctor, we'll just prescribe some painkillers."

Lin Ye looked at him: "He doesn't need painkillers right now."

"What do we need?"

The deliveryman suddenly felt dizzy and fell to the ground.

Lin Ye and Nurse Zhao reached out at the same time, supporting the person from both sides.

The voices in the forest grew louder.

"Emergency room, bedside ultrasound!"
