Warden of the Beast World: Everyone is a Hakimi
Chapter 39 Aren't you angry?
Several kilometers into the drive, the young investigator in the passenger seat finally came to his senses, his face deathly pale as he turned to his team leader in the back seat: "Team leader, the mental breakdown value of the young clan chief Chiheng... Didn't the military's records say he was sentenced to 'irreversible'? He... he was completely conscious just now, able to take human form, and even hugging that little female to comfort her, crying louder than anyone else... How could he be acting like he's about to go berserk?"
"You're asking me? Who should I ask?" The team leader loosened his tie, panting heavily. "Quickly report to the minister! His Highness Chiheng is the minister's most precious grandson. If he knows his grandson has recovered, he'll be so happy he'll reward us all. But—"
He held up one finger, his expression as serious as could be. "The first thing you do when you get back is to inform all your clansmen that if you encounter this little warden named Ye Tang anywhere in the empire, take a detour! Absolutely do not provoke her! Anyone who does will go bankrupt!"
Everyone in the car nodded in unison, their movements as synchronized as military training.
In the corridor of Prison Zero, Ye Tang watched the black armored vehicles disappear at the edge of the forest, then turned around, clapped his hands, and gave a bright smile to the big shots still standing in the corridor: "Alright, I'm in a good mood today, so here's an extra treat—a whole roasted lamb. Chi Heng, stop crying, or all the lamb legs will go to You Lie."
Chi Heng's tears stopped instantly. He sprang to his feet, wiping his face with his sleeve, not even bothering to clean the tear stains and snot: "No way! I want two lamb legs! You Lie, did you hear me? You're not allowed to take them from me!"
Youlie stood to the side, arms crossed, his grey-blue eyes coldly sweeping over him, but the corners of his mouth curled up slightly imperceptibly.
Ling Shou leaned against the glass wall, arms crossed, his silver-gray eagle eyes fixed on Ye Tang. He cleared his throat and spoke in a tone that said, "This young master is giving you face," "Chocolate cake, bubble tea, matcha ice cream—Little Bean Sprout, this young master will help you argue, is this too much to ask?"
"That's going too far." Ye Tang didn't even turn her head, flipping the lamb chops in her hands.
"You little bean sprout!" Ling Shou instantly went from leaning to standing, his eagle eyes wide open. He had just helped her scold She Qing, and he and Chi Heng had been singing in unison, using the level of a shrew's cursing. Now she was asking for three desserts, and she actually said it was too much?
"What are you yelling about, you free-range chicken? Did I ask you for help?" Ye Tang turned around and raised her chin at him.
"Hmph!" Ling Shou abruptly turned his back, his long, silver-gray hair whipping out in a sharp arc, the ends almost brushing against Chi Heng, who was secretly eating roasted meat beside him. Damn little sprout, he shouldn't have helped her.
No, he hadn't intended to help her in the first place; it was that old scoundrel's insults that made him speak up. No, no, he only allowed himself to insult her, not others. But this heartless little sprout wouldn't even give him a cake.
Ye Tang looked at the peregrine falcon with its back to her and wings practically popping out, and a slight smile appeared on her lips. Of course, she was just teasing it.
Having spent so much time together, she had long since figured out this free-range chicken's temperament—stubborn, arrogant, and easily provoked, but never absent when something really needed to be done.
This way of getting along had become a fixed routine for her every day when delivering meals. If they didn't argue a bit on a particular day, she felt like something was missing. She couldn't change it; Ling Shou would just have to get used to it.
Ye Tang turned and left the observation area. She was going to give them a snack. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw You Lie transform into human form at some point.
His long, silver-gray hair was tied back, with a few stray strands falling across his forehead, and his grey-blue eyes quietly gazed at her.
After transforming into human form today, he didn't turn back into a wolf. The image of him grabbing She Qing by the neck and trying to kill her was still vivid in his mind. But now he just watched her sprinkle cumin on the lamb chops without saying a word, as if he was waiting for something.
Ye Tang flipped the lamb chops on the grill, the fat dripping onto the charcoal and sizzling. She felt You Lie's gaze fixed on her.
"You're not angry?" Youlie's voice was low, with a hint of barely perceptible probing in his tone. Such a tone coming from an SS-level combatant and an Imperial Major General was almost unrealistic.
"What's wrong?" Ye Tang replied casually, dipping the brush in her hand into the condiment bowl.
"I... I pretended to be a dog to fool you." After saying these four words, Youlie pursed his lips, his gray-blue eyes still fixed on her, but the muscles in his shoulders unconsciously tensed up.
Ye Tang paused in flipping the lamb chop. She turned her head and saw a rare hint of tension on You Lie's usually cold face, and suddenly found it a little funny.
Just now, he was lifting She Qing by the neck like a chick outside without batting an eye, but now he's so nervous about confessing to her about pretending to be a dog.
Her tolerance for furry creatures had no upper limit, and besides, apart from the fact that Ghost Hunter initially stole half of her roasted rabbit, he had never diminished his kindness towards her.
He hunted for her in the forest, carried her across the entire primeval forest, stood guard outside her bedroom door every night, wagged his tail like a propeller when he ate her cooking, and would nuzzle her head when she was in a bad mood. He was the one who acted like a dog first, but she was also the one who treated him like one first.
"Don't be angry." Ye Tang continued to brush sauce onto the lamb chops, her tone light as if she were talking about the nice weather. "Besides, Chi Heng exposed everything about you being a wolf that day, it's just that I didn't believe him."
Youlie was slightly taken aback. He recalled that day when Chiheng angrily dug up his entire background in the courtyard, and Yetang's reaction was—"You say he's an Imperial Major General, what's his motive?" She genuinely didn't believe it; she wasn't pretending.
He was a major general in the Third Legion of the Empire. He pretended to be a dog for almost a month for a roasted rabbit leg. If word got out, the soldiers in the North would laugh until they retired. But when he was squatting in the forest with the stolen rabbit meat in his mouth, only one thought flashed through his mind—everyone in the Empire recognized this face. If people found out that the major general stole the roasted meat from a little female, would he still have this wolf face?
"Ahem, Tangtang," Youlie coughed lightly, his gray-blue eyes unusually shifting to the side. "Back then... my mental strength was on the verge of collapse. I didn't want to accept the military's reassurance, so I ran away. I originally intended to lock myself in Prison Zero, but when I passed through the forest, I smelled the aroma of your roasted meat..." He didn't finish his sentence, but they all knew the rest of the story.
"It's okay, it's okay, be good. Who told you to be my fluffy little thing?" Ye Tang freed one hand, stood on tiptoe, and patted his head. The gesture, the force, the tone of voice like she was coaxing a child, were exactly the same as when she patted Wolf-shaped Ghost Hunter's forehead.
Youlie was slightly taken aback by her pat, then lowered his eyelashes. She was genuinely not angry. Whether he was a wolf, a major general, or an SS-level fighter, none of that mattered to her.
All she knew was that he was the big dog she had raised for almost a month, and that if he ate her flesh, he would become her furry friend. As his caretaker, she wouldn't be angry with her furry friend.
