Lin Mo checked each person along the firing line, correcting those who were pressing their shoulders too tightly, pressing their faces too hard against the butt of the gun, or closing their eyes when pulling the trigger, and then let everyone continue practicing.

The first day of live-fire training continued until evening.

The gunfire in the valley went from sparse to dense, and then from dense to sparse again, until the setting sun dyed the mountain walls dark red before the exercise officially ended.

Many of the hundred-man squad had red marks on their shoulders from the butts of their rifles, and their ears were ringing. But when they lined up at the end of the exercise, the expressions on their faces had changed from the unease of the morning to a subtle excitement.

As the group disbanded, a young man who had come from the guards rubbed his shoulder and grinned, saying:

"This thing is much better than a machete. It can take down enemies from a hundred meters away before they even draw their knives."

Another veteran from the same garrison replied to him:

"It's easy to use, but it hurts my shoulders."

Someone nearby chimed in:

"With tripled military pay, what's a little suffering?"

The group laughed and jokingly carried their guns as they headed towards the camp.

After the Flying Tigers' training was finalized, Lin Mo called Liu Si over:

How many fishermen in the county have experience at sea?

Liu Si opened his notebook, which he always carried with him, and started counting names on his fingers:

"Reporting to Your Excellency, Old Chen is one of them. He's an old hand who's been at sea for thirty years. He can figure out the tides even with his eyes closed."

Zhao Da Huzi used to work on merchant ships and could read a compass.

There were also a few younger ones, all of whom came from fishing families and were excellent swimmers.

There were about twenty people in total.

"Gather everyone and assemble at the county government office first thing tomorrow morning."

"Yes, sir! I will go and inform them one by one immediately."

Liu Si shoved the booklet into his arms and was about to leave when Lin Mo called him back:

"No rush, we'll take care of that later! There's still the city wall matter to attend to!"

All the surplus labor in the county, except for the necessary manpower in the steel mill and cement kiln, was transferred to repair the city wall.

Since the cement kiln went into operation, the output has been increasing every day. Before, there was a shortage of building materials, but now there is a sufficient supply of cement. The only shortage is manpower.

"Have Zhang Tie transfer another shift from the guard team to act as supervisors. They'll divide the work into sections, and the person in charge of any section that falls behind will be held accountable."

Liu Si accepted the order and turned to leave.

These days, several sections of the low wall in the direction of the port have taken shape. The outer side of the wall is made of cement, and the inner side is filled with soil and compacted. At intervals, crenellations and loopholes are left.

Compared to the old method of using glutinous rice mortar to build bricks, the cement pouring speed is more than ten times faster, and the city wall is rising at a visible rate every day.

That night, Lin Mo went alone to the newly built port by the sea.

The concrete breakwater is mostly completed, and the seawater above the berths ripples under the moonlight.

He walked along the breakwater to its end, and after confirming that no one was around, he took out a speedboat from his spatial storage, started the engine, and drove it out of the harbor.

As he sailed, he visually assessed the water depth and channel width. After confirming that the draft was not a problem, he made a mental decision.

The gray-white passenger and cargo ship appeared out of nowhere on the sea, its massive hull pressing down and then rising again, stirring up a slowly spreading ripple.

He steered the boat to the berth, dropped the anchor chain, and then drove the speedboat back to shore. He retrieved another speedboat as well and secured it firmly to the mooring post on the dock with a cable.

The two speedboats swayed gently on the sea, looking like two willow leaves that had fallen into a basin of water compared to the giant ship.

The next morning, Liu Si led more than twenty fishermen, whose skin was tanned dark by the sea breeze, to gather in front of the county government office.

These people ranged in age from their early twenties to their fifties, all with calluses on their hands from pulling nets, and exuding an indelible fishy smell.

Lin Mo walked to the front of the line, his gaze sweeping over every face, and said:

"You have all spent most of your lives making a living at sea. I have called you here today not to requisition fishing boats, nor to assign you corvée labor."

"I have an important matter to entrust to you. Follow me."

The fishermen whispered amongst themselves. Zhao the Bearded Man scratched the back of his head:

"Not requisitioning ships? What are we supposed to do then?"

Old Chen tapped the mud off his shoes with his pipe and said slowly:

"You'll find out when you get there. Just follow the adults; you can't go wrong."

The group walked through the main street of the county government office and headed towards the port.

After passing the breakwater, the huge ship at the berth appeared in the morning light.

All the discussion abruptly ceased.

The pipe that Chen Laohai was holding fell to the ground with a thud, and his mouth was open, unable to close for a long time.

Zhao Da Huzi craned his neck to look at the top of the ship. He looked so hard that he staggered backward and almost fell, but was caught by the young man behind him.

Some others rubbed their eyes, some pinched their thighs, and some muttered to themselves:

"The Dragon King's Ride"

"Is this something created by the gods?!"

Several timid people immediately knelt down and kowtowed.

"This is what I'm going to give you today."

Lin Mo pointed to the giant ship behind him.

"Come aboard with me, everyone."

He led the group to board the ship in batches via speedboat.

Once on deck, the fishermen looked like country bumpkins just arriving in the city, some touching the railings, others clinging to the gunwale.

A young man tapped the steel plate with his finger and exclaimed in surprise:

"It's made of iron! The entire ship is made of iron!"

Zhao the Bearded Man squatted on the deck, touched the anti-slip treads, then stood up and stomped his feet twice, muttering:

"How can an iron ship float on water? That doesn't make sense."

Chen Laohai spent half a day bent over studying the anchor chain hole, and when he looked up, his eyes were already red:

"I've been at sea for thirty years and I've never seen a ship like this before. It's clearly the Dragon King's chariot."

Lin Mo led them on a tour of the entire ship from top to bottom.

The cockpit, engine room, cargo hold, passenger cabin, and deck.

The diesel engine set in the engine room silenced the fishermen once again. They simply couldn't understand how this iron lump, which required neither sails nor oars, could make such a large ship move at sea.

Chen Laohai, however, was different. He leaned closer to listen to Lin Mo explain the working principle of the diesel engine. Although he didn't understand most of it, he remembered a few key operating steps and even asked a few questions.

Lin Mo observed that although this person was older, he learned the fastest and was the most proactive. He had a sense of management and was good enough to be a captain.

"This place will be under the jurisdiction of Lao Hai from now on, and no one else is allowed to enter without permission."

Lin Mo patted the iron door of the engine room and said to Chen Laohai.

Chen Laohai swallowed hard, his back straightening unconsciously.

"Rest assured, sir, this old man will guard this gate with his life."

After the tour, Lin Mo gathered everyone on the deck, where the sea breeze made their clothes flutter.

He glanced at the twenty-odd faces before him, roughened and tanned by the sea breeze, his voice soft but each word clear:

"From today onwards, you are the first navy unit in Lianhai County, named the SEAL Team!"

They fight in wartime and fish in peacetime.

The catch from this boat is enough to feed the entire Lianhai County for several days. The fish and shrimp caught can be dried and sold in Hezhou for another sum of money.

You no longer need to row your small sampans to battle the waves in the near sea, nor do you need to worry about the weather at sea or pirates!

Once the port is fully repaired, we will have even more boats, and then the fishing fleet from Lianhai County will be able to stretch from this port to where the sea meets the sky.
