Chapter 444 I'm craving you too
Wenya quietly pushed open the front door. Using the faint light seeping into the hallway, she groped her way through the darkness to change her shoes, holding onto the wall for support.
The belt of the trench coat hadn't been tied yet, and the front was loosely open. The inside was already different from when I left, and I could feel a slightly cool touch on my skin.
She walked barefoot across the living room floor tiles, the coolness of the floor rising from the soles of her feet, making her shiver slightly.
She went to the bathroom to change into her pajamas, then tiptoed towards the master bedroom.
When I pushed open the bedroom door, the hinges made a very soft creak, but it was unusually clear in the quiet night.
Liu Yan rolled over on the bed, mumbled something indistinctly, and then slowly opened her eyes.
"Auntie...where did you go?"
Her voice was still hoarse and nasal from being startled awake. She was wrapped in the blanket, with only her sleepy face showing, and her hair was messy and scattered on the pillow.
Wenya stood at the door, her back to the faint light in the corridor. She lowered her head to tidy her messy hair and said in a calm tone, "Going to the bathroom. Go to sleep now."
After she finished speaking, she went into the bedroom, gently closed the door behind her, and then got into bed.
The moment she lay down, her body sank slightly into the mattress, as if she had finally released all the fatigue that had accumulated throughout the night, and she involuntarily let out a soft breath.
Liu Yan did not close her eyes immediately.
She turned over to face Wenya, and stared at Wenya for two seconds in the sliver of moonlight that peeked through the curtains.
"Auntie, why are you so hot?"
Liu Yan reached out and touched Wen Ya's arm, which was sticking out of the blanket, with her fingertips, then quickly withdrew her hand. "Your face is still so red, and there's sweat on your temples."
She paused, piecing together the clues bit by bit, then tilted her head, her tone carrying a tentative understanding:
"Auntie, you didn't just go to see Uncle, did you?"
Wenya closed her eyes, her eyelashes trembling slightly in the moonlight.
She paused for two seconds, then said in a very calm tone, "Yes, I just went to the bedroom next door."
"No wonder," Liu Yan leaned closer to her, lowering her voice as if she had discovered some incredible secret.
"I vaguely heard a woman's shouts, and I thought I was dreaming."
Wen Ya kept her eyes closed, her tone calm and even: "Then you must have misheard. Go to sleep."
"I woke you up, now you're not sleepy anymore."
Liu Yan moved the pillow closer to Wen Ya, turned to her side, propped her chin up with one hand, and looked at Wen Ya's silhouette lying on her side in the darkness.
"Auntie, tell me about it, what was it like?"
Wen Ya opened her eyes, turned her head to look at her, and said with a hint of sleepiness and helplessness, "You've been on a trip with Cao Xu for several days now, didn't you know?"
Liu Yan's face flushed slightly in the darkness, but there was no hint of shyness in her voice. She simply shook her head decisively: "I didn't let him touch me."
Wenya was genuinely surprised this time.
She turned to look at Liu Yan, her brows furrowing slightly, her gaze now filled with a serious scrutiny: "How could he possibly resist touching you?"
"How do you know he won't be able to resist?" Liu Yan asked quickly.
Wenya paused for a moment at her question, then turned her head back to look up at the ceiling, her tone returning to its nonchalant tone:
"Just a guess. Aren't all men like that? They think with their lower bodies, and their little heads decide their big heads."
Liu Yan stared at her for two seconds, feeling that there was something inexplicable in her aunt's tone when she said those words.
Without thinking too much about it, she continued, "He couldn't help himself, but I have principles too. I only helped him twice."
Wenya turned over, her back to her, and pulled the blanket up to her shoulders: "Okay, stop talking, I'm so sleepy, I want to sleep."
Liu Yan didn't stop.
She leaned closer, her chin almost resting on Wenya's back, her voice very low:
"Auntie, are you tired? You sneaked off to meet Uncle late at night. Did I interfere?"
Wen Ya closed her eyes, remained silent for two seconds, and finally let a hint of feigned annoyance appear in her tone:
"Yes, you should go home tomorrow. Staying here as a third wheel means I need to sneak off on my date."
"I'm not leaving. I've come all this way."
Liu Yan refuted him confidently, then suddenly seemed to think of something, her voice carrying a hint of ambiguous cunning.
"When I'm with Cao Xu in the future, I'll invite you to my house. When we sleep together, I'll let you be a third wheel next door. I'll be craving you too."
Wenya didn't open her eyes, but the corner of her mouth twitched almost imperceptibly.
She silently thought to herself: If that day ever comes, I wonder who will be the third wheel.
She was so tired.
The effects of the alcohol, the drowsiness, and what happened in the stairwell earlier left me feeling like every bone in my body had been drained of its strength.
Wenya was too exhausted to deal with Liu Yan's banter any longer. She pulled the blanket up over her shoulders, turned her back to Liu Yan, and her breathing quickly became steady and long as she fell into a deep sleep.
Liu Yan lay down beside her, turning to look at Wen Ya's back.
She watched for a while, then lay down, pulled the blanket up to her chin, and stared blankly at the ceiling.
Liu Yan's mind became increasingly clear, and those daytime scenes, the laughter at the dinner table, the kiss in the entryway, the night on the train, all kept flashing back to her, frame by frame, unstoppable.
She remembered Cao Xu's warm breath as he whispered in her ear on the train, and the shadow his eyelashes cast on her cheekbone when he lowered his head to kiss her.
She remembered his hands, his palms dry and warm.
I remember his lips, and the time we comforted each other on the train.
Liu Yan slowly clenched her hands under the blanket.
Her cheeks began to burn.
The heat spread from the base of my ears down my neck, and even the thin cotton fabric of the blanket couldn't block it.
She pressed the back of her hand against her face; it was burning hot, as if it could make her fingers sweat.
She switched hands and fanned her face, but all she got was hot air; it was completely useless.
"I'm going to die... I can't think about it anymore..." she mumbled softly, her voice muffled by the pillow, barely audible even to herself.
She rolled over to face the wall, pulled the blanket over her head, and wrapped herself up like a silkworm cocoon, with only a few strands of hair sticking out.
But the more I try to stop thinking about it, the more those images creep into my mind.
Liu Yan twisted in the blanket, her legs instinctively clamping together a corner of the blanket.
"Sleep, sleep, sleep—" she repeated three times, as if trying to suppress the images in her mind.
Then she closed her eyes and began to count sheep in her mind. When she counted to the thirty-seventh sheep, all of them suddenly grew Cao Xu's face.
Liu Yan suddenly opened her eyes, let out a long breath, and resignedly buried her face in the pillow.
She didn't know how much time had passed, but her breathing finally calmed down, her fingers loosened their grip on the corner of the blanket, and she curled up into a ball, gradually falling asleep in the moonlight.
Meanwhile, Wen Ya, standing beside her, was breathing so steadily it was as if she had fallen into an abyss.
