Chapter 34 More Than Just Alumni
"So it sounds like you're also a student at Yunzhao No.1 Middle School, Ms. Xia. Then we're alumni."
Lu Zhaoyang wasn't too surprised.
There are only three high schools in the entire Yunzhao County, among which No. 1 High School has the strongest teaching staff and the most outstanding students.
"Yeah, that's right, but I only studied at No. 1 High School for half a year before transferring schools."
Xia Ran was not surprised by this either.
"So that means the teacher Xia was affected by was also Yun Zhao's teacher. Which one is it? Maybe I know one of them too?" Lu Zhaoyang asked with a smile.
"Teacher Liu Guiying."
Upon hearing this name, Lu Zhaoyang froze, tentatively asking, "Is Teacher Xia from the class of '58?"
"Yes, how did you know?"
Xia Ran stopped in her tracks upon hearing this. Her beautiful eyes widened in disbelief. "We're not classmates, are we? I'm sorry, I only stayed for half a semester, so I don't remember many of the faces."
"No, no, we're not classmates."
Lu Zhaoyang quickly waved his hand.
He naturally guessed it from the name Liu Guiying.
He had only asked casually and didn't think that Xia Ran would happen to know about a teacher.
Yunzhao High School has nearly forty classes in each grade, and with so many teachers in the school, how could it be such a coincidence that one of them happened to have taught him?
But ironically, Liu Guiying really was his math teacher.
Because Liu Guiying was exceptionally strict, they all secretly called her Granny Liu.
Lu Zhaoyang clearly remembered that Liu Guiying had a leg ailment and often used a cane.
He's not very good at math, otherwise his grades could have improved even further.
He was often reprimanded by Liu Guiying for his uneven academic performance.
High school teachers usually teach the same classes as the students, from the first year of high school to the third year.
Xia Ran was obviously younger than him. If they were both taught by Liu Guiying, then Xia Ran was probably three grades younger than him.
That's why Lu Zhaoyang was able to guess it so easily.
Xia Ran was also amazed when she heard Lu Zhaoyang's explanation.
At the same time, having the same teacher brought the two of them closer together.
"Teacher Liu should have retired two years ago, right?" Lu Zhaoyang asked.
Xia Ran nodded happily and said, "Yes, yes, you care about Teacher Liu so much. It seems that Teacher Liu has had a great influence on you. I initially fell in love with math because of Teacher Liu."
"Hehe...Teacher Liu is indeed a good teacher."
Lu Zhaoyang was at a loss for words.
There is no doubt that Liu Guiying is a good teacher.
However, the reason he knew this so clearly was simply because he was often lectured by Liu Guiying.
After finding out Liu Guiying's age, he was even more eager for her to retire.
He was too embarrassed to tell Xia Ran this.
However, Xia Ran seemed to have opened up and started talking about school.
Including his younger brother, Lu Zhaoyu.
Lu Zhaoyang heard Xia Ran mention his younger brother in a familiar way, not only in math but also in other subjects.
He knew that this young, beautiful girl was a very responsible teacher.
A dozen minutes later, the two arrived at the residential compound of the Industry and Commerce Bureau where Xia Ran lived.
At the entrance of the residential compound, Lu Zhaoyang saw a sign that read "Locksmith Guy".
"There's a phone here, I'll make the call."
Lu Zhaoyang took the initiative to speak and then took out his phone.
"Yes, the residential compound of the Industry and Commerce Bureau on Xinhua Road. The cost is no problem. Building number..."
When Lu Zhaoyang looked at Xia Ran, the latter had already extended three slender, white fingers.
"Building 3, I'll wait for you downstairs."
Lu Zhaoyang hung up the phone, gave an "OK" sign, and said casually, "It's all set. I'll be over in a bit. We'll be ready soon."
"Thank you so much today, otherwise I definitely wouldn't have been able to sleep all night."
Xia Ran said very sincerely.
Lu Zhaoyang smiled and said, "Teacher Xia, please don't be so polite. First of all, we are high school alumni. Secondly, we are both students of Teacher Liu Guiying. Furthermore, you are my younger brother's homeroom teacher. It is only right and proper that I help you with this small favor. If I have to thank you, then I think I should thank the food. It was the food that brought us together."
"Speaking of food, that plate of crayfish... I never expected a street stall to be so delicious. If it weren't for this accident today, I probably would never have discovered it."
Xia Ran was a little disappointed that she got a free meal because Lu Zhaoyang knew the boss, but then she felt it was being pretentious.
Recalling the taste of crayfish, she subconsciously pursed her lips.
"Yes, that boss's cooking skills are really good."
Lu Zhaoyang suddenly asked, "Teacher Xia, do you think business would be good if this boss opened a shop?"
"Of course! It tastes so good, it's bound to be well-received. I'll definitely support it."
Xia Ran nodded immediately, "I'll recommend it to my colleagues and friends."
"Okay, it's a deal then!"
Lu Zhaoyang readily agreed.
Xia Ran turned her head and looked at him, not quite understanding what he meant by "it's a deal".
Then she realized that Lu Zhaoyang knew the boss and probably wanted to help the boss attract business.
The two waited downstairs for less than ten minutes before a locksmith arrived on a motorcycle.
Lu Zhaoyang glanced at Xia Ran, who then led the two upstairs in a tacit manner.
Third floor, east-facing unit.
Lu Zhaoyang hadn't asked yet; he only just found out.
"Um... buddy, we need to see your ID."
"Standing at the door," the locksmith said.
"I didn't bring my ID with me, but I have an electronic ID on my phone."
Lu Zhaoyang didn't waste any time and showed the other person his ID card on his phone.
"The key is inside, right?" the young man asked after glancing inside.
"Yes, I accidentally locked it inside when I went out. I can get it by opening the door."
Lu Zhaoyang glanced at Xia Ran, then nodded.
The young man nodded, said nothing more, squatted down, and opened the tool bag he carried with him.
For these licensed teachers, unlocking doors is as easy as drinking water.
The locksmith fiddled with it for a bit, and in less than half a minute, the door was opened smoothly.
Xia Ran went inside and quickly came out with a key.
The locksmith took the key, closed the door, and opened it with the key. Sure enough, he didn't ask for any additional identification.
"The agreed-upon fee is one hundred. Who can pay?"
Lu Zhaoyang stood to the side with his hands in his pockets, not moving an inch, and looked at Xia Ran.
"I'll do it."
Xia Ran quickly turned on her phone.
To outsiders, this was clearly a couple who had long passed the honeymoon phase and whose finances were controlled by the woman.
The locksmith's footsteps slowly faded into the distance.
"The door is open. Teacher Xia, I'll be leaving now. You're all alone. Remember to lock the door and be careful inside."
The two stood in the hallway, and before the air became quiet, Lu Zhaoyang spoke.
"Thank you so much for today."
Xia Ran also breathed a sigh of relief.
It was definitely not the right time for her to invite people in, but it would be impolite to send them away.
Fortunately, Lu Zhaoyang spoke up himself.
"Simply saying thank you isn't enough..."
Lu Zhaoyang walked down two steps, turned around and smiled, "Next time I want to eat crayfish, Teacher Xia, how about you treat me?"
"no problem."
Xia Ran nodded, silently noting this down in her mind.
She doesn't like owing favors, especially to someone she's only met twice.
Although, this person didn't seem to be in a hurry for her to pay it back.
