Huayu: Enjoy Yourself

Chapter 28 Returning to School

Chen An agreed with what Jerry said. ✩ 🎀 60M.🎀 ✩

After all, the best place to earn US dollars is still where US dollars are produced, where there are the most green US dollars!

It is also the largest film market today, with the strongest global distribution capabilities, and has been bombarding the global market for decades.

It would be a lie to say he didn't want to earn US dollars, but Chen An felt it wasn't the right time yet, so he declined Jerry's offer.

"I agree to your offer, but I don't have any plans to go to Hollywood at the moment."

Jerry had no regrets and continued to speak warmly to Chen An, saying, "No problem, Chen. You're still young, and we can wait. If you have any ideas, feel free to contact me anytime. Warner will always welcome you."

Chen An nodded, which was his way of responding to Jerry.

He wasn't in a hurry to go to Hollywood. Even if an outsider went, he would find it difficult to make a living. He wanted to wait until Titanic was released.

Now that they have achieved success domestically, and seeing the potential of the Chinese box office in Hollywood, they are using their "Chinese" connections to bolster their influence.

"However, we can write some scripts first, so that we can take them to film later."

Watching Jerry leave, Chen An silently thought to himself.

And he's determined to earn those dollars; even Jesus couldn't stop him!

The rights to "Run Lola Run" have all been sold.

All copyrights, including broadcasting rights and DVD sales, have been sold.

They only sold two companies, for a total of $1700 million.

Even Han Sanping couldn't have imagined such a number.

While the three major film festivals are prestigious, they don't quite reach this level. Even the top of the three festivals falls short, as it only awards the Best Director prize.

It's not the top prize, not even second place.

It can only be said that the release of "Run Lola Run" coincided with the rise of feminism, coupled with the hype surrounding his status as the youngest Best Director winner.

The film was highly entertaining and received rave reviews from the media at the time, becoming a must-see for women.

It was only by chance that it sold for such a high price, but Chen An could accept it; he had always been lucky.

Although the money from copyright purchases won't be deposited into the account immediately, it's still much faster than the box office revenue sharing.

Although Chen An and Han Sanping's Beijing Film Studio each held 15% and 10% of the shares respectively, Lin Dajiang was still very happy.

Even so, he was making a fortune and wanted to leave the clothing industry to focus on making movies.

To be honest, he's never made this much money in all his years in the clothing business.

Chen An also offered some advice, but it's unclear whether he listened. After all, the film industry is a high-risk industry, and outsiders who enter it will be ripped off badly.

I can't take care of him for the rest of my life.

Next, he will start his own company.

Excluding the revenue sharing from the domestic box office, Chen An earned a total of US$255 million this time.

At that time, Chen An was a self-employed individual and planned to bring everything into the country later.

In the current context of foreign exchange shortages, this can also be seen as serving one's country.

They have no intention of evading taxes and plan to pay them all.

I feel more at ease keeping it myself.

Chen An suddenly became a multi-millionaire.

After the agreement was reached, Lin Dajiang treated everyone to a meal and they stayed in France for a few days. Chen An also went to the yacht he had always wanted to go on.

He even invited the crew of the film "Temptress Moon" who came with him, but they declined and went back to China.

After having a great time for several days, the group finally returned home together as arranged.

This time, the tycoon paid for an entire plane to go back.

During this time, Han Sanping kept talking to Chen An about their plans for the next movie, and Chen An did not refuse.

The original idea was to succeed domestically and then use that success to leverage Hollywood's influence over China, making them envious of the mainland market.

That way, I can earn more US dollars there.

"Brother Han, I won't be submitting my next film for awards abroad. It's a kind of training for myself; I plan to make a film that trains my camera skills."

Chen An sat next to Han Sanping and explained his thoughts to him.

Is it a commercial film?

Hearing that it wasn't an award nomination, Han Sanping got excited. The domestic box office market was getting worse and worse, and it was perfect to have a director like him to stimulate the market.

"Not entirely. Art films are very popular in China now, but it can't be said that all viewers like to watch them. Those who do like them are ultimately a minority."

"Ordinary viewers don't want to waste their money going to the cinema to watch a movie that's full of preaching or satire. Most people just want to have fun, which is why comedies have high box office returns."

"Of course, it's not that art films have no audience, it's just that they are ultimately a minority for the general public."

"I plan to find a place with four distinct seasons first. The movie will include these landscapes, and I want to make the visuals beautiful so that the audience can enjoy watching it."

Hearing these ideas, Han Sanping smiled and agreed: "No problem, our Beijing Film Studio will definitely give you our full support."

However, Chen An said, "Thank you very much, Brother Han. But this time I need to do a music video shoot, so it might take a while. Please bear with me."

"No problem, I'll talk to him. How long will it take?"

"We need to film all four seasons in one year."

"So long? I'll try my best, I'll talk to him when the time comes."

Han Sanping was also a little helpless, after all, it had been quite a while, and Lu Le was not an ordinary photographer.

He directed the film "To Live," which is considered one of Chen An's favorite films, and he is a well-known and excellent cinematographer in China.

"Alright, I'll entrust my younger brother to you, brother."

Chen An believed that with Han Sanping's intervention, there would be no problem with the matter.

The plane landed in Beijing.

Chen An and Han Sanping got off the plane together and were talking about the movie.

However, this time, unlike the previous short films, it was after getting off the plane.

Chen An was cornered by reporters at the airport, who bombarded him with questions.

"Director Chen, what would you like to say to the domestic audience after winning Best Director this time?"

"Director Chen, when is the planned release date for 'Run Lola Run'?"

"Director Chen, please."

A group of reporters crowded around and asked questions at the same time. Chen An was greeted by Han Sanping.

Instead of answering the question, she escaped the scene with him under the cover of Beijing Film Studio staff.

"You're quite the hot commodity right now, after all, you're the first Chinese-language film to win the Best Director award at Cannes and you're still so young."

Sitting in the car, Han Sanping smiled and said to Chen An.

"You know what, this is the first time I've ever felt the enthusiasm of the domestic media. If you hadn't pulled me along, I was planning to get into a little scuffle with them," Chen An said with a grin as he sat down next to Han Sanping.

"Shall I take you back now?"

"No, just tell me."

Chen An quickly refused, knowing that if he went back, the reporters wouldn't let him off the hook and could ask him questions for hours.

The car first drove to the Beijing Film Academy, let Chen An out of the car, and then left.

As Chen An got off the bus, he looked up and saw a huge banner at the school gate: "Congratulations to Chen An, an outstanding sophomore at our school, for winning the Best Director Award at the 49th Cannes Film Festival!"

The words "Best Director Award" were especially enlarged and bolded.

Chen An understood what to do and hurried towards Teacher Mu's place, carrying his things.

"Knock knock knock!"

Chen An knocked on Teacher Mu's office door as he walked into the office, and then went inside.

Teacher Mu looked up and saw her proud student, smiling as she said, "You're back, our great director."

"I'm back. I also picked up an award, so I brought it back to show you."

"Where are the things?"

Without asking anything else, Teacher Mu immediately asked Chen An for the Best Director award certificate.

Chen An opened the box, took out the packaged certificate, handed it over, and read aloud:

"Here you go, just this one. For such a big film festival, all they gave out was a piece of paper."

Teacher Mu, who had won an award, ignored him, took the item, opened it, looked at it, and then tied it back up.

"You've really made a name for yourself this time. I bet you'll be attending all sorts of meetings and lectures in the next few days. You'd better get ready."

As a sensible person, Teacher Mu knew that Chen An would be constantly holding various interviews and meetings.

Chen An was asked to put his things down, and then he was led into the courtyard to meet the leaders. At that time, a replica of the certificate, just like the previous Venice Trophy, would be placed in the school.
