When Li Yichen got home, it was already past six o'clock in the evening.

The TV in the living room was on, playing cartoons. Miao Miao sat cross-legged on the sofa, hugging a cushion, watching intently. The sounds of stir-frying and Li Niannian and Uncle Zhou talking quietly came from the kitchen.

"Brother's back!"

Hearing the door open, Miao Miao turned her head and saw Li Yichen. She immediately jumped off the sofa, ran over barefoot, and hugged Li Yichen's leg.

"Was Miaomiao good today?" Li Yichen bent down and picked her up.

"Good girl!" Miao Miao hugged his neck, pressing her little face against his shoulder. "My teacher praised me today!"

Li Niannian poked her head out of the kitchen, holding a spatula in her hand.

"Brother Li is back? We can eat soon."

"No rush." Li Yichen carried Miaomiao to the sofa and sat down. "You guys go ahead with your work."

Miao Miao slid off his lap, climbed back onto the sofa, and continued watching cartoons. Li Yichen leaned back on the sofa, his mind still racing through the day's events—the press conference, the signing, the phone call with President Lei, Ling'er working on the intelligent driving system… one thing after another, spinning like a revolving lantern.

Not long after, Uncle Zhou came out of the kitchen carrying dishes, placing them one by one on the table. Li Niannian also came out carrying a bowl of soup, calling out, "Brother Li, Miaomiao, dinner's ready."

Li Yichen got up and walked to the dining table to sit down. Miao Miao climbed onto the chair herself and sat next to him.

The meal was plentiful: braised pork ribs, stir-fried shrimp, water spinach with garlic, and a pot of yam and pork rib soup. Uncle Zhou's cooking skills were consistently excellent.

Li Yichen picked up his chopsticks and took a piece of pork rib. Although he had eaten takeout around 4 p.m., that little bit wasn't enough to satisfy his hunger, and now, smelling the aroma of food, his stomach was growling again.

He took a couple of bites of rice, then suddenly remembered something and looked up at Li Niannian.

"Niannian, have you taken Miaomiao to the hospital for a check-up recently?"

Li Niannian paused for a moment while picking up food, then nodded.

"I've been there, last week."

"What did the doctor say?"

"The doctor said..." Li Niannian put down her chopsticks, a smile appearing on her face, "Miaomiao's condition is recovering very well. Her blood count is basically normal, and the bone marrow aspiration results are much better than last time."

She paused, looked at Miaomiao who was engrossed in gnawing on ribs, and lowered her voice.

"The doctor said that Miaomiao has been taking the special medicine you got from Liu's Pharmacy, and it's been very effective. If she continues taking it for another six months or so, she should be completely cured."

Li Yichen's hand, which was holding a piece of food, stopped in mid-air.

Healed.

Those two words hit him like a hammer, and something in his chest gently settled. He turned to look at Miaomiao—the little one was intently working on a rib, her cheeks bulging and sauce smeared on her lips.

"That's good," Li Yichen said calmly.

But the fingers holding the chopsticks loosened almost imperceptibly.

The meal was eaten quickly. After Miao Miao finished eating, she ran to the living room to continue watching cartoons, Li Niannian cleared the dishes, and Uncle Zhou washed the dishes in the kitchen. Li Yichen leaned back in his chair, watching the sky outside the window gradually darken.

My phone vibrated.

He took out his phone and glanced at it. It was a message from Ling'er—a cute little character with their hands on their hips, looking smug, followed by the text: "Brother, the basic framework of the intelligent driving system is complete! I can show you a demo tomorrow!"

Li Yichen replied with an "okay" and put his phone back in his pocket.

The next morning, Li Yichen got up early, which was unusual for him.

When he came downstairs, Uncle Zhou had just put breakfast on the table—millet porridge, fried dumplings, and a few side dishes. Li Niannian was combing Miaomiao's hair, and Miaomiao was sitting in a chair, swinging her little legs back and forth.

"Brother Li, you got up so early today?" Li Niannian was a little surprised.

"I can't sleep." Li Yichen sat down at the dining table, picked up his bowl, and took a sip of porridge.

Miao Miao turned her head to look at him, her eyes sparkling.

"Brother, will you take me to school today?"

Li Niannian continued working with her hands while saying, "Miaomiao, stop fooling around, your brother has things to do."

"I don't want to!" Miao Miao pouted. "My brother has promised to take me to school so many times, but he always sleeps in! This time, I want him to take me!"

Li Yichen smiled when he saw Miao Miao's puffed-up little face.

He put down his bowl and waved to Li Niannian.

"Alright, I'll deliver it today. You stay home and rest."

Li Niannian paused for a moment, then shook her head helplessly.

"Alright... Miaomiao, listen to your brother, okay?"

"Okay!" Miao Miao immediately smiled, jumping off the chair before her hair was even properly combed, running to Li Yichen and hugging his arm. "Brother is the best!"

After breakfast, Li Yichen took Miaomiao's hand and went out.

The kindergarten is near the entrance of the villa area, only a ten-minute walk away. Miao Miao, carrying her little schoolbag and with Li Yichen holding her other hand, skipped and hopped forward.

"Brother, a new student has joined our class named Lele."

"Oh? Male or female?"

"He's a boy! He's so annoying, he's always stealing other people's toys!"

"Then what are you going to do?"

"I won't let him take it!" Miao Miao raised her little face. "My toys, I'll play with them myself!"

Li Yichen smiled but didn't say anything.

When they arrived at the kindergarten gate, many parents had already dropped off their children. Miao Miao let go of Li Yichen's hand and took out half a half-eaten bun from the side pocket of her schoolbag—the one Uncle Zhou had given her when she left.

"Bye-bye, brother!" She took a bite of a steamed bun in one hand, waved to Li Yichen with the other, and turned to walk into the kindergarten.

Li Yichen stood at the door, watching that small figure blend into a group of children and slowly disappear into the school building.

He stood there for a while before turning around and walking back.

Back at the villa, Li Niannian was mopping the living room floor. Li Yichen didn't disturb her and went straight upstairs to the study.

He sat down at his desk and took out his phone.

"Ling'er".

The screen immediately lit up, and a cute chibi character popped out.

"Brother! The intelligent driving system is fully prepared! All data has been optimized and can be imported into the car's infotainment system for testing at any time!"

"So fast?"

"Of course!" Ling'er's voice brimming with pride. "I analyzed all the publicly available data on autonomous driving accidents worldwide and simulated over 90 million extreme road conditions. The current system's safety factor is more than 500% higher than that of human drivers!"

Li Yichen leaned back in his chair and tapped his fingers on the table.

"Can you make a demo video?"

"Sure! What kind of scenario do you want to see? City traffic jams, highway cruising, nighttime driving, heavy rain... I can simulate it all!"

"Let's start with a city with traffic congestion."

"Okay! I'll send it to you in a minute!"

Li Yichen put down his phone, got up and walked to the window.

The sunlight outside the window was bright, casting dappled shadows on the courtyard. He looked around for a while, then felt a bit stuffy and decided to go downstairs for a walk.

As soon as I got to the living room on the first floor, I heard Li Niannian on the phone.

Her voice was urgent, and she spoke very quickly.

"What? Miao Miao hit someone?... Teacher Wang, don't worry, I'm coming right away... Okay, okay, I'm on my way!"

Li Yichen stopped in his tracks.

Li Niannian hung up the phone, grabbed her bag from the sofa, and was about to rush out when she turned around and saw Li Yichen standing at the top of the stairs. She paused for a moment.

"Brother Li..."

"What happened?" Li Yichen asked.

Li Niannian's face was pale, and her fingers were tightly gripping the bag strap.

"Miao Miao's teacher just called and said that Miao Miao hit another child at school. The other child's parents are already at the school and asked me to come over."

Li Yichen frowned.

Did Miao Miao hit someone?

That little girl who usually speaks softly and hides behind strangers, would hit someone?

"Are you sure Miaomiao started it?" he asked.

"That's what the teacher said..." Li Niannian's voice trembled slightly, "but I don't know the specifics. I have to go there right away..."

"Go ahead," Li Yichen said. "I'll be back in a bit."

Li Niannian nodded, opened the door, and rushed out.

The door closed.

The living room fell silent.

Li Yichen walked to the sofa, sat down, and took out his phone.

"Ling'er".

"Here I am, brother."

"Check the surveillance footage from Miaomiao Kindergarten," Li Yichen said. "Let's see what exactly happened this morning."

"clear!"

The chibi-style character on the screen disappeared, replaced by a rapidly scrolling stream of code. A few seconds later, Ling'er's voice rang out again.

"Brother, we've got the CCTV footage. It was at 9:17 this morning, in the classroom of Class 3, Middle Grade at the kindergarten."

"Show it to me."

The phone screen switched to the surveillance camera feed.

In the video, a group of four- or five-year-old children are playing freely in a classroom. Some are building blocks, some are drawing, and some are playing with toys.

Miao Miao sat at a small table in the corner, holding a pink rabbit doll in her hand, and was "combing the rabbit's hair" with her head down.

Just then, a chubby little boy walked over—it must be the "Lele" that Miaomiao had mentioned. He walked up to Miaomiao and reached out to snatch the rabbit doll.

Miaomiao hugged the doll to her chest and stepped back.

Lele took another step forward and grabbed it directly.

Miaomiao clung tightly to the doll, refusing to let go.

After a few tugs, Lele suddenly pushed hard—Miaomiao fell backward, chair and all, her head hitting the toy cabinet behind her with a dull thud.

In the video, Miao Miao paused for two seconds, then her mouth twitched and she burst into tears.

But Lele didn't stop. Taking advantage of Miaomiao's crying, he snatched the rabbit doll and turned to leave.

Just then—

Miao Miao got up from the ground, rushed over, grabbed Lele's arm, and bit down.

Lele winced in pain, dropping the toy in his hand to the ground. He turned around and shoved Miaomiao hard. Miaomiao staggered a couple of steps from the push, but didn't fall. She rushed forward again, this time scratching with her hands—her fingernails leaving two red marks on Lele's face.

Lele also cried, and her cries were even louder than Miaomiao's.

The teacher heard the commotion and ran over, separating the two children...

The surveillance footage ends here.

Li Yichen stared at the now-blacked-out screen without saying a word.

The living room was so quiet you could hear yourself breathing.

A few seconds later, he stood up and picked up his car keys.

"Ling'er".

"Brother, you say it."

"Save this surveillance video." Li Yichen opened the door and stepped out. "I'm going to school now."
