Chapter 383 The Island Turns into Hell, the Deadly Gaze of the Stratosphere
The piercing air raid siren blared over the land of cherry blossoms, its deafening sound drowning out the crashing of the waves.
Four thousand five-meter-tall, dark yellow monsters, riding on magnetic levitation skateboards, like a locust plague that blots out the sky, crossed the horizon and headed straight for the beach in Tokyo Bay.
Behind the beach, the Japanese Self-Defense Forces had already constructed three intersecting lines of defense. Hundreds of main battle tanks were lined up in a row, the barrels of anti-aircraft guns were raised high, and soldiers lay prone in the trenches, their fingers on the triggers, their palms covered in cold sweat.
"Fire! Shoot them down!" the frontline commander roared hoarsely, almost crushing his walkie-talkie.
Flames spewed forth, and a dense rain of bullets wove together to form a massive fire net, engulfing the monster horde in mid-air.
The Zero clone hovered at the forefront, watching the whistling shells hurtling towards it, a mocking smile playing on its lips. It raised its thick arm and made a gesture.
Four thousand pale blue hexagonal energy shields opened up in unison, forming a curtain of light in mid-air.
Armor-piercing rounds and machine gun bullets struck the shield, but didn't even leave a dent; they simply turned into piles of scrap metal and fell into the sea. The kinetic energy of the gunpowder weapons was completely absorbed by this rudimentary energy network.
The Zero clone raised the giant laser gun pieced together from scrap parts and pulled the trigger.
A beam of dark blue light swept horizontally from top to bottom.
The Self-Defense Forces' prized steel defenses proved as fragile as cheese before this beam of light. A main battle tank weighing tens of tons was sliced in half, the intense heat at the cut melting the metal into molten iron. The ammunition depot exploded, its turret tumbling into the air before crashing heavily onto the troop carrier behind it.
The screams were drowned out by the roar of the explosion. In just half an hour, the defense line on the east coast of Japan collapsed completely, leaving not a single intact company behind.
The Yellow Giants completely ignored the fleeing remnants of their army. They rode their skateboards across the burning beach and marched straight into the core precision industrial zone of the Sakura Kingdom.
The air inside an underground air-raid shelter in downtown Tokyo was stuffy and stale.
The bespectacled man and the blond woman who had been shouting on the dock were now huddled together in a corner, shivering.
Muffled explosions echoed overhead, causing dust to fall from the basement ceiling. Faint screams and the deafening crashes of collapsing buildings could also be heard from the street.
The blonde woman had disheveled hair and her makeup was completely ruined. Her hands trembled as she pulled her phone from her designer bag, connected to the weak Wi-Fi in the basement, and opened a Chinese social media platform.
"Help! Monsters have entered the city! People are killing each other outside! Great Xia's warships, come back and pick us up!" She typed while crying, sending out the SOS post, along with a short video of the basement shaking.
The bespectacled man was also frantically refreshing the webpage of the Great Xia Embassy in Japan on his phone, trying to find even a single piece of information about rescuing his citizens from evacuation.
Less than two minutes after the SOS post was published, the comment section exploded.
"Hey, isn't this the same public intellectual who was criticizing our soldiers for being rude just a few hours ago at the dock?"
"Didn't they say back then that Japan had sweet air and an invincible Self-Defense Force? Why are they thinking about Great Xia warships now?"
"Don't be afraid. Use your public-spiritedness to go up and reason with the bio-monsters and teach them what manners are."
"Put aside your desire to help others and respect their fate. Have a pleasant time in this sweet air; we'll have dinner now."
The blond woman looked at the comments, tears blurring her phone screen. She turned to look at the bespectacled man, who was equally pale, and felt utterly remorseful.
If she had known it would end like this, she would have climbed onto that amphibious assault ship even if she had thrown all those designer bags and figurines into the sea.
Unfortunately, the Great Xia's warships had already sailed into international waters, leaving them without even a trace.
Tomson Riviera Villas in Shanghai.
The air conditioning in the study was on full blast. Li Yichen sat in a large leather swivel chair, holding a cup of freshly brewed black coffee.
Above the desk, a huge holographic screen was displaying real-time satellite footage of mainland Japan in a split-screen format. On one side was the coastline ablaze with flames, and on the other were the city streets now under the control of the Yellow Giant.
"Brother, these monsters know their stuff." Ling'er's holographic projection sat on the corner of the table, swinging her two short legs. She stretched out her finger and circled several red, high-heat areas on the screen.
"Look at these places, they're all top-tier CNC machine tool factories and semiconductor plants in Japan. They didn't bother robbing banks and treasuries, they just took over all these heavy industrial bases."
Ling'er pulled up a set of data: "The equipment in the factory has been restarted; they are rewriting the underlying code of the CNC machine tools."
Li Yichen took a sip of coffee, placed the cup on the coaster, and made a soft sound.
"These alien monsters aren't stupid." Li Yichen's eyes turned cold as he looked at the yellow giants on the screen who were skillfully operating the machine tools. "Back in Area 51 of America, they could only scavenge scrap metal and make rudimentary weapons by hand. Now that they're in Japan, with its complete precision industrial production lines, of course they're going to upgrade their equipment."
He leaned back in his chair, tapping his fingers on the armrest, his tone full of mockery.
"That idiot, Tekapo, thought that driving these monsters into the sea would solve everything. He never considered that putting a race with high-dimensional intelligence on an industrialized island nation is equivalent to sending them an arms factory."
Once these monsters have built their interstellar weapons in Japan, the first country they'll destroy is America.
"So we'll just watch them grow?" Ling'er asked, tilting her head.
"Let them do what they want." Li Yichen said dismissively. "Japan's resources are limited. At best, they can make a few decent laser guns. Want to build powerful interstellar weapons? They can't even gather the materials. As long as they don't provoke us, we can just treat it as a free sci-fi blockbuster."
As soon as he finished speaking, a blinding red light suddenly burst out from the edge of the holographic screen.
Several red dots representing the Yellow Giants deviated from the main force of the Sakura Kingdom, riding on magnetic levitation skateboards, drawing a huge arc on the sea surface, and speeding towards the East China Sea of Great Xia.
These monsters, having gone mad with bloodlust in the Sakura Kingdom, seemed to think that the prey on that island wasn't enough to satisfy their hunger, and wanted to cross the border to find new hunting grounds.
The alarm in the study sounded three short beeps.
"Warning: Unidentified biological target is approaching the territorial waters of Great Xia. 50 nautical miles away!" Ling'er's electronic voice immediately turned serious, and the holographic screen automatically magnified the red dots.
In the scene, five yellow giants carrying energy guns are rapidly approaching the virtual border.
The mockery on Li Yichen's face vanished completely. He sat up straight and tapped his fingers heavily on the mahogany table.
"You're asking for it." Li Yichen stared at the approaching red dots, his voice calm yet laced with murderous intent. "Ling'er, take control of the Stratospheric Helicopter One. Charge the main guns. Set a rule for these alien bastards. If they dare cross that line even a millimeter, they'll be vaporized."
"Received, brother! Weapon system unlocked, target locked." Ling'er waved her hand, and a countdown circle popped up on the holographic screen.
Over the high seas of the East China Sea.
Five yellow giants, riding on skateboards, gazed at the faint outline of the continent in the distance, their eyes gleaming with bloodlust. They raised their energy guns, preparing for a new round of slaughter.
The leading yellow giant had just crossed the invisible boundary on the sea.
Above the stratosphere, at the bottom of the stealthy No. 1 space carrier, massive armor plates slid open to the sides. A robust, high-energy laser main cannon protruded from the hull, its energy matrix at the muzzle already glowing at its brightest.
There were no deafening cannon shots, nor any sky ablaze with fire.
A blinding blue-white beam of light, more than ten meters in diameter, pierced through the thick clouds without warning and struck the five yellow giants with perfect accuracy.
A strike at the speed of light, there is no way to avoid it.
The pale blue energy shield that could withstand even armor-piercing shells couldn't even last a fraction of a second against the main cannon of the space carrier, disintegrating into countless points of light.
The five enormous monsters, each five meters tall, didn't even have time to utter a scream, leaving behind not even their remains or the magnetic levitation skateboard. The extreme heat of hundreds of thousands of degrees Celsius vaporized them completely upon contact.
A high-energy beam of light blasted a massive crater into the sea, instantly causing the water to boil and sending white steam hundreds of meters into the air. A gigantic whirlpool formed on the surface, frantically engulfing the surrounding seawater.
Divine punishment descended from the heavens.
A few seconds later, the beam of light receded. The clouds closed again, leaving only the still-swirling vortex on the sea surface, proof that five alien creatures had just been there.
The Land of Cherry Blossoms, Tokyo's Precision Industrial Zone.
The Zero clone was standing in front of a CNC machine tool that had been converted into an energy assembly station, holding a freshly cut superconducting part in his hand.
Its hand stopped moving.
The quantum resonance between the extraterrestrial consciousnesses allowed it to sense the disappearance of its five companions immediately. Not killed, not signal interrupted, but utterly and completely erased, even at the atomic level.
The Zero clone suddenly raised its head, its gaze passing through the dilapidated roof of the factory and looking towards the deep sky in the direction of the East China Sea of Great Xia.
For the first time, a hint of fear flashed in its eyes, which had always been filled with rationality and amusement.
That attack from the sky far exceeded its understanding of this primitive planet. The energy output at that level was definitely not a technology that a conventional gunpowder civilization could master.
The zero clone stood there, weighing its options for a long time. It turned around, threw the superconducting component in its hand onto the workbench, and strode out of the factory.
Outside, hundreds of yellow giants were escorting a group of prisoners from the Sakura Kingdom, preparing them for forced labor.
Clone Zero ignored the prisoners, stepped onto the magnetic levitation skateboard, and took off, flying towards the largest nuclear power plant in northern Japan.
Since an unknown force exists on this planet capable of annihilating them, their meager possessions are insufficient. It must take over the nuclear reactor, extract the enriched uranium, and forge a true interstellar weapon capable of destroying advanced energy shields.
Li Yichen sat in his study, watching the trajectory of the Zero clone changing course on the holographic screen. He picked up the half-cold black coffee and drank it all in one gulp.
"Did you go to the nuclear power plant?" Li Yichen pushed the empty cup aside and leaned back in his swivel chair.
"Brother, if it really manages to produce nuclear fuel, it might actually be able to create some powerful weapons," Ling'er said with some concern as she checked the satellite scan data.
Li Yichen stood up, walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, and looked at the dazzling night view of Shanghai outside.
"Give it time to build it." He put one hand in his pocket, looking down at the Huangpu River. "When it has painstakingly built its weapon and thinks it can challenge the space carrier, I will send the Titan mechs down to crush its pitiful confidence, along with its weapon, to pieces."
A night breeze blew by, and his tall figure was reflected in the glass of the floor-to-ceiling window.
The Zero clone landed atop the towering cooling tower of the nuclear power plant, and with a sudden burst of strength, inserted several thick superconducting wires directly into the boiling reactor core below.
