Treasure Gathering Immortal Furnace

Lu Fan wasn't stupid at this moment. He knew that the other inner disciples were afraid of this old man, so he also planned to slip away as soon as possible.

However, Yan Ruyu clearly had no intention of letting him off the hook.

"Senior Brother Mo, since it's just about being an assistant, I have a good candidate in mind: that outer disciple, Lu Fan," Yan Ruyu suddenly pointed to Lu Fan in the distance.

Upon hearing this, the old man surnamed Mo turned around and discovered the Qi Refining Level 6 cultivator hiding at the back of the crowd.

"This junior's cultivation is too low, he doesn't meet my requirements," the old man surnamed Mo raised his hand slightly, seemingly dissatisfied with Lu Fan.

"Senior Brother Mo, it's just assisting, cultivation level isn't important. Besides, this junior nephew is in the outer sect collecting the bodies of the deceased senior brothers. He's in contact with corpses every day, isn't that exactly what you want?" Yan Ruyu smiled slightly and revealed Lu Fan's profession.

Originally, the old man surnamed Mo had not taken a liking to Lu Fan, but upon hearing that he specialized in collecting corpses, he seemed to become interested.

But this scene made Lu Fan's heart tighten. After all, he knew exactly what Yan Ruyu was up to when she puckered her butt and farted. She was definitely not up to anything good.

Unfortunately, Lu Fan didn't recognize the old man surnamed Mo. After all, he had only been to the inner sect a handful of times in the past twenty years and had no idea what the man did.

"You deal with corpses every day, so you're kindred spirits. Alright, you're the one," the old man surnamed Mo said slowly, looking at Lu Fan.

Before Lu Fan could figure out what was going on, he was chosen by the old man surnamed Mo, which made him a little flustered.

"Uncle-Master, I..." Lu Fan was about to refuse.

The elderly man surnamed Mo stepped forward, grabbed Lu Fan's hand, and examined it: "Hmm, your hands are still fairly nimble, not bad. Come with me."

"Uncle Mo, I have a leg ailment. If the task is too heavy, I'm afraid I won't be able to handle it," Lu Fan said, startled by the old man's rudeness.

"It's alright, your task is to dissect my body and dismember it. Other odd jobs will be done by others," the old man surnamed Mo said without any sign of disdain.

Lu Fan knew he couldn't refuse. He had intended to reveal Wang Qingzhu's identity, but the status of this inner sect elder surnamed Mo was probably higher than that of the outer sect steward Wang Qingzhu.

So Lu Fan had no choice but to nod reluctantly.

"Yes," Lu Fan then bowed and clasped his hands.

"Don't worry, I will give you a thousand contribution points in a month. If you satisfy me, I will also give you some opportunities," the old man surnamed Mo said, raising his hand slightly.

"Thank you, Uncle Mo," Lu Fan nodded slightly, then glanced coldly at Yan Ruyu in the distance.

At this moment, Yan Ruyu looked on with a gloating expression, and even looked at Lu Fan as if he were a dead man.

Then, the old man surnamed Mo took out a bone shield magic weapon made of some unknown bone, and then pulled Lu Fan onto it, heading straight for the back mountain.

Seeing the old man surnamed Mo leave, Yan Ruyu finally smiled and said, "You cripple, don't say I didn't take good care of you!"

"Uncle Yan, that's brilliant! This kid is definitely doomed if he goes to Uncle Mo's place!"

"They're definitely dead. After all, over the years, none of those who have assisted Uncle Mo have ever come back alive."

Several disciples also looked gloating.

...

A moment later, the old man surnamed Mo led Lu Fan to the back mountain of the inner sect.

As soon as they landed, the old man surnamed Mo spoke up: "My name is Mo Li. I am neither an inner sect steward nor an elder of the Dao Sect, but a puppeteer. This is your identity token. For the next month, you will be under my jurisdiction."

After saying that, Mo Li tossed a small bone token to Lu Fan, then opened the cave and went inside.

Lu Fan stood there stunned. When he heard the words "puppet master," he finally understood that Mo Li was the special talent that the Dao Sect had recruited more than ten years ago.

Dao Sect is the orthodox immortal cultivation sect in the Great Yan Kingdom. The path they cultivate is mostly sword cultivation and magic cultivation, but they have few special cultivators.

What constitutes special characteristics, such as alchemists, puppeteers, and formation masters?

To make up for its shortcomings, the Dao Sect spared no expense in hiring three special talents: an alchemist at the early stage of the Golden Core realm, a puppeteer at the peak of the Foundation Establishment realm, and a formation master at the late stage of the Golden Core realm. However, the formation master had already passed away ten years ago due to the exhaustion of his lifespan.

Therefore, the Dao Sect only had two special talents left: alchemists and puppeteers, whom the sect treated like treasures.

After all, alchemists are highly sought-after wherever they go, and so are puppeteers.

They are capable of crafting all sorts of puppets. Rumor has it that you should never underestimate a puppeteer, because you never know if he has a sect hidden in his storage bag.

After all, a third-rate sect has a Golden Core cultivator in charge, and its disciples number at least a thousand.

A skilled puppeteer can create puppets at the Golden Core stage, and can easily create thousands of puppets at the Foundation Establishment and Qi Refining stages. It's no exaggeration to say that their storage bag contains an entire sect.

As Lu Fan entered the cave, his eyes were immediately opened to a new world.

Inside the spacious cave, there were many pale-faced "corpses" that looked like walking corpses. There weren't many, but there were still a hundred of them.

These corpses may appear lifeless, but a sweep of divine sense reveals the presence of spiritual energy within them.

Clearly, these hundreds of corpses were all puppets at the sixth level of Qi Refining.

But to Lu Fan's surprise, these were all human puppets!

There are two types of puppets: one is a mechanical puppet made of various rare metal materials, which is driven by spirit stones.

However, mechanical puppets are too cumbersome. They are only good for defense, but when it comes to attack, a mechanical puppet at the Golden Core stage is absolutely no match for a Golden Core stage cultivator.

Another type is the human puppet, which is made from the corpse of a dead cultivator. It is also driven by spirit stones, but it is extremely flexible.

This Mo Li is clearly the latter, preferring to use the corpses of cultivators as materials for crafting puppets.

This not only made Lu Fan feel a chill run down his spine, but it also reminded him of something.

In his early years, he often collected the bodies of his deceased senior brothers and elders, and he buried these bodies in the Daozong Cemetery.

Strangely, he often found buried corpses being dug up, but Lu Fan didn't care. After all, he was only responsible for collecting the corpses, not for guarding them.

It seems that the bodies of those deceased senior brothers and elders were dug up by this Mo Li.

As Lu Fan was looking at these puppets, Mo Li noticed that Lu Fan's emotions were quite stable at the moment, and then praised him, "Hmm, not bad. Some of the other disciples were so scared when they saw these puppets that they were scared out of their wits, but you are quite calm."

"I am used to dealing with corpses all the time," Lu Fan replied.

"Very good. Your task is to disassemble the parts of these hundreds of puppets. Remember, when disassembling, do not damage the bones; start from the joints."

"After disassembling them, stack them on the puppet-making platform. I allow you to make mistakes, but try not to exceed ten puppets. You have one month to complete the task and receive your contribution points, then you can leave."

Mo Li said slowly.

Upon hearing this, Lu Fan nodded respectfully.
