Quick Transmigration: The Supporting Character Just Wants to Die a Natural Death

The screams inside continued, but Yao Feiran did not make any rash moves because the dark aura was not deep, and Song Jingning and her child would eventually be safe.

After a while, a cry rang out, and the midwife came out carrying a baby.

"Congratulations, Your Majesty, it's a prince."

"Yes, everyone in the palace will be rewarded."

As Mu Linzheng was speaking, two eunuchs escorted a midwife out from behind, and his eyes sharpened.

"What happened?"

"Your Majesty, just now this midwife was feeding Consort Ning ginseng soup. Consort Ning was about to drink it when she sensed something was wrong and said that the soup was poisoned. She ordered her to be arrested."

Mu Linzheng's gaze was like a cold blade: "Someone, summon the imperial physician."

Chu Ze arrived quickly. He smelled the ginseng soup and studied it for a while.

"Your Majesty, this ginseng soup is laced with sodium sulfate, which is colorless and tasteless. Drinking it will cause severe bleeding. This is an attempt to harm Consort Ning."

Mu Lin said coldly, "Investigate for me, find out who dared to harm Consort Ning."

Yao Feiran focused her attention on Consort Hui and Consort Yun, and surprisingly, she noticed a slight unease in Consort Hui's eyes.

Anyone who does something bad will have a slightly different facial expression, and Yao Feiran can tell at a glance.

She didn't say anything, but her eyes were slightly indifferent.

Consort Hui and the original owner of this body are natural allies. What is Consort Hui planning to do by harming Song Jingning? She hasn't told me beforehand.

Sure enough, after a while, Mu Linzheng called Yao Feiran over.

His face was ashen, and his eyes were sharp.

"Do you know who ordered that midwife to work?"

"I?"

Mu Linzheng slammed his fist on the table: "So it was you who ordered it! And she even has the jewelry you gave her as a reward, as well as the letter you gave her."

"Why would I order her around? Her methods are really terrible. If I wanted to reward her, why give her jewelry? Couldn't I just give her some silver? And letters? Isn't that giving others leverage against her?"

The chief eunuch, Shouyi, almost lost control of his facial expression; this empress really dared to speak her mind.

"you--"

"Your Majesty, can you please think about this? If you can implicate me so easily, there must be a trap."

Mu Linzheng's previously furious expression froze. He gritted his teeth and said, "Empress, you certainly know how to argue!"

"What's the midwife's name? Does she have parents or relatives?"

Mu Linzheng remained silent. Shouyi glanced at the emperor and replied, "This midwife is named Liu Xian. She has no parents, and her only daughter married far away in Liaocheng two years ago."

"That's impossible. If there's no one else, why would I choose her? I need to hold someone's weakness so that I can use her for my own purposes, and that way she won't dare to betray me."

"Empress, are you provoking me?!"

Yao Feiran smiled and said, "How dare I provoke Your Majesty? Where is she? I will interrogate her."

Mu Linzheng: "You want to destroy the evidence?"

"Your Majesty, can you please consider this: she has already implicated me. Why would I go and destroy the evidence? Wouldn't that just be like protesting too much? Aren't you usually very clever?"

Yao Feiran pursed her lips, almost ready to call him a pig-brain.

Shouyi gasped. The empress's words were too forceful; they made his heart pound.

Mu Linzheng laughed angrily: "Hmph, I'm giving you this chance. If you can't get anything out of me, then you can ask to be deposed as empress and spend the rest of your life in the cold palace."

Yao Feiran remained unfazed. As expected, the female lead was the one to hold back. Such a severe punishment at once! If Mu Qingyan were to harm the female lead at this moment, Mu Linzheng would definitely depose the crown prince immediately.

Yao Feiran obtained the silver needles from the Imperial Hospital and went to the midwife. Because she confessed quickly, she did not suffer much physical pain.

Yao Feiran stepped forward: "You're saying that I ordered you to harm Consort Ning?"

Liu Xian's eyes flickered slightly, her expression one of grim determination: "Your Majesty, I was following your orders to drug Consort Ning. You said you would protect me."

"You've already implicated me, yet you still expect me to protect you? It seems Consort Hui must have promised you something. I remember Consort Hui's father was the prefect of Liaocheng. I wonder what benefits he gave to your son-in-law's family. We'll find out when we investigate."

Liu Xian's face paled for a moment, a glint of something flashing in her eyes. She quickly regained her composure and said, "Your Majesty, please don't slander me. Are you trying to use my son-in-law's family as a threat? I beg Your Majesty to do me justice!"

Mu Linzheng's eyes narrowed slightly. He had seen Liu Xian's panic for a moment, and with his vast experience in dealing with people, how could he not know that there was a trap involved?

Yao Feiran pulled out a silver needle and inserted it directly. The screams almost overturned the detention room, and the other party was rolling on the ground in pain.

Even though the Empress hadn't used any torture, and it was unclear which acupoint she had struck, Shouyi's eyelids twitched, and he silently took a few steps back.

After Liu Xian was in pain for a few minutes, Yao Feiran knew it was almost over. Taking advantage of her weakness, she used her spiritual power to enter her.

"Tell me who ordered this."

Liu Xian couldn't help but shout, "It's Consort Hui! Consort Hui wanted me to kill Consort Ning, saying she would pin the blame on the Empress. She even gave me the Empress's jewelry! I was only doing this for my daughter! My son-in-law wants to divorce my daughter, and Lord Zhang promised to protect her."

Yao Feiran remained calm upon hearing the name Consort Hui, while Mu Linzheng was shocked.

Wasn't Consort Hui promoted by the Empress herself? Why would she frame the Empress?

However, if it were Consort Hui, anything would be possible. Consort Hui is the person who understands the Empress best and is deeply trusted by the Empress, making it the easiest for her to produce such evidence.

"Your Majesty, now you know."

"..."

After this incident, Consort Hui was stripped of her title and sent to the Cold Palace.

Zhu'er chimed in, "Your Majesty, Consort Hui was promoted by you, and the Zhang family was also helped by Lord Yao to become prefects. I never expected them to be such ingrates."

Yao Feiran did not show any emotional fluctuation.

She wasn't the original owner of this body, so naturally she wouldn't be saddened by her friend's betrayal. Besides, this friend shared a husband with her, so it wouldn't be surprising if they betrayed each other for personal gain.

However, she was also puzzled as to why the other party had suddenly attacked her so viciously.

If she falls, what good will it do Consort Hui?

Ningfei Palace

Mu Linzheng told Song Jingning, "Ning'er, we've found out. The person who hurt you was Consort Hui, and it has nothing to do with the Empress."

Song Jingning's eyes turned cold; she simply didn't believe it. Her face was pale as she said, "After all, the Empress is the Crown Prince's birth mother. It's normal that His Majesty is unwilling to punish her."

"I did not lie to you. Consort Hui coerced Liu Xian into framing the Empress."

"The Empress and Consort Hui were always like sisters, so what difference does it make who did it?"

Mu Linzheng said helplessly:

"A few days ago, I specially dispatched Yao Yunshou as an imperial envoy to go south to Liaocheng to investigate the accounts of money, grain and granaries. Zhang Chengyi was secretly disobeying orders, falsely increasing taxes, buying grain at low prices and converting it into silver at high prices, and pocketing the difference, causing the people to suffer. After Yao Yunshou obtained the evidence, he persuaded Zhang Chengyi to turn himself in and come to justice."
